Given that Pert said at some point this year a key forward is one of our areas we need to bolster it will be interesting to see what happens this trade period.

I think a lot of teams will understandably be throwing big money at Jeremy Cameron, the one i'd be making a big offer to is Ben King. it's a little risky but the kid is going to be a star in my opinion, and is very likely to want to come back to Vic.

i think put 850k x4 under his nose and offer the Suns pick 3 and Billy Stretch and see if they can be tempted to move him a year early.

I can’t see Cameron leaving GWS. They’ll be successful for the foreseeable future, made the GF this season and could quite possibly be at the pointy end again next season. They’ve kept a core-group of players together, Cameron being one of them. Like Coniglio, Gil will want Cameron staying put.

Sounds like a decent plan PO.  I have my doubts we would be that daring though.    More likely split the pick and then end up choosing two Gysbert & Strauss types (or even better...another Cale Morton) while missing the next Dusty sitting in between those two!

Sorry if it’s already been mentioned but would anyone consider Bruce from the Saints?

I have a vibe that he has been enquired about - but that is purely linked to the fact that Alan Richardson is on board...

on that... I don't particularly rate him, but he does do well against us. I also think he looks a bit like the depictions of Jesus Christ... so I hope if we get him, he has a second coming...

Agree.

Good discussion point but the problem is the system.  While the likes of Lynch are able to get to the clubs that have had the most recent success that is the option they will choose vs teams who haven't seen success in decades like the Aints, Doggies (1 in 62 years) and ourselves.  And to a lessor extent Norf (96) and Carltank (95).

As Kingy suggested and which i've been calling for for years, FAs should not be allowed to get to a club thats finished top 5/6 or so (previous two seasons) or win a premiership in say the last five.

We can talk all we like about the possibility of getting a genuine gun tall forward.  Cameron is up next season,  aint gonna happen unless the clubs force the AFL to change FA to assist the lessor lights.

If Cameron doesn't re-sign at GWS i g'tee he will end up at a top liner in 2021.  Nothing more certain.

System is flawed until/unless the clubs speak up.

Bottom dwellers unite and take over!

I agree .... but then Gil just thrives on flawed systems.  Look at his goal review system just for starters.

Petty. Will be interesting to see where they use him. Lewis Taylor from Brisbane might be okay as small crumber but have to beware of some serious brain farts.

He would fit in well with our overall, and in particular forward game plan then. ?

Given Elliott is now looking elsehwere, I reckon this is the move we should make. Front-end the bejesus out of his contract and get a 10-12 year forward. You have my vote, mate.

It then gives Weideman a time clock. He could simply take over from McDonald in 2-3 years as the other twin tower or we look for a trade if King bosses it for us in 2020.

You think Cameron can still be FF at 39? He is on big money with this year's GF team. Look elsewhere.

Think he was referring to King

Whoops.

Just putting it out there, and before anyone asks and says i am trolling, I will not be giving any names (my source has demanded I don’t) but I have heard we are really trying to get a key forward from another vic team!!

I will let you all guess away (or conversely have a crack at me for not naming anyone and making it up), but I will only say he is from a vic team and has been mentioned nowhere in the media.

We all know Elliott was not the only player we have been talking too!

Not a hope in hell, but his brother at North, who is not as good, could be available.

I wish it was him, but no, it isn’t.

I won’t answer all of them, as it will give it away, but once I can get my source to allow me to give some more, I will.

Yeah, I’m not exactly sure what the point of such a post is. Regardless, I’m hoping this person you’re talking about is a fit and rejuvenated Mark Jackson.

I think the answer you seek lies in someone who’s first and last names begin witht the letter K

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
