I think Kemp is a Dangerfield type who don’t come up too often. I’m all for the risk of taking Kemp at 3. If he was injured he would have pushing up to Rowell/Anderson as likely no.1 pick. 

I can understand choosing Hayden Young at pick 3 (4- depending on pick swaps or nominating Tom Green) as he is the type of ball user we desperately need  

But if Kemp was available at 8, you CANNOT pass him up. Simply too good.  Tall. Fast. Great kick. Midfield. Goalkicker.  Sure you have the wait out 2020 while he recovers but huge huge upside for start of 2021.  He would be (on form at national championships) into our best 22. 

I see in another post, there is voting on our picks 3 & 8. Voting update now has Young and Kemp as our preferred options.  That’s my call from early days.  I see Young playing in about 7-8 games next year and being managed. 
 

I hope JTs strategy to get pick 8 was to land Kemp before he becomes one of the big clubs bargain buy.   Hawks & Cats at 11 and 14 would think its Xmas if he got that far.  Sure we’d wait until 2021 but he’s got qualities not often found.  Speed.  Size. Power. Goalkicking.  Mid or forward.  Dangerfield like.

    And a bad knee. It would be demonesque to draft another inside mid in top 10 with a bad knee when we are crying out for small classy forwards who can kick and outside mids who can stay on the park.

    Pardon my ignorance but are there any highlight videos of Brodie Kemp?

    I am open to drafting him at pick 8 if he is still available.

    The ACL issue is a risk, but we had Petracca do his knee in his first year that we drafted him so you cannot predict anything like that.

    I actually think Sydney will take Brodie Kemp as a long-term replacement for Josh Kennedy.

    Kemp will be an option for Crows and Swans.  Agree Swans may see the huge upside in waiting 12 months and get a potential superstar quality type.  Without too much pressure, this kid is a potential serious A grader.

    How does Kemp rate talent wise to the top prospects in the 2020 draft?

    If he is as good as advertised and the 2020 draft is short on talent at the top end and we can steal him at pick 8,   the North pick in 2020 almost becomes irrelevent to me

    I think the view of most list managers (Except Norths) is next years draft is thin, and corrupted by 16/40 being NGA.  ie If we kept next years first round (assume in teens) we may have ended up with a pick that would be equivalent to a pick around 25+ this year. No way would a Kemp quality player be available next year in the teens (or even at 8).

    Of course there is an element of risk in taking Kemp - but that is why he may be available at pick 8 instead of going well inside the top 5.

    FWIW, I would take a player following a knee reco over a player who had torn cartilage in his hips.  Completely different injuries and players.

    Good call. He is better than most of the Top picks imo in the thin-highly compromised draft next year. That’s why I like the swap with Kangas

    I would have thought an expert medical consultant such as yourself would know that Jimmy Toumpas only has one hip, or pelvic girdle as it is also known. It's also not connected to the knee, so I don't get how the two player's conditions can be compared.

    Q: Is it wise to pick a player like Kemp who may be sidelined for twelve months and would be selected based on minimal past records. ? i acknowledge his athleticism and history.

    In answer to your question- you don’t have to worry, mostly everyone here is an expert on every player from 4 minutes of video highlights.

    Having not even watched his footage I can tell you Kemp will clearly be a superstar. Unless he becomes Trengrove-mark-II.

    Somebody else will likely have a more illuminating answer you your valid question.

    True.  I also have read in a few articles that Kemp will be available to play in the 2nd half of the season (if all goes well with his rehab).

    I really hope we draft this kid.

    I saw Vic country v SA under 18s.  It was a high standard game and great performances by Serong, Flanders, Ash, Kemp and Weightman.  

    Kemp had the ball on a string and showed his pace, strength and kicking. I thought he was BOG but it was probably also because he kicked the winning goal.  
     

    Serong also showed that he will be very very good player and I wouldn’t be disappointed if we called out his name.

    Kid called Will Gould was also outstanding for SA.  Had him for a top 10 pick. Reminded me of Shannon Hurn. His presence and long kicking was top grade.

    Worrying about an 18 year old kid not playing in his first season is pointless. He shouldn't be playing seniors in his first season anyway. A year of rehab means he will be better prepared physically when he does debut.

    Will Kemp play this season? or is he out for the season? When did he do his knee? I wouldn't mind Kemp being picked by us at 8 there is very little to worry about with knee recos now. One year out and your back on your feet, still prefer Weightman I think you can pick up a small forward at 8 if he is that good.

    I take your point except plenty of good footballers played their first game when 17 or 18 yrs of age. The likes of Ablett Jnr, Robbie Flower etc. I just hope we do not pick a lemon.

    I recall Clayton Oliver was a smokey pick jumping up the ranks very quickly. So hope you are right about Kemp.

      The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
