I'm hearing that Richo and Goody are already at loggerheads andĀ Richo is also on the brink of walking out.

He says Goodwin is too stubborn and has never seen a single Dees loss - he thinks they're all just bad days!

If only he'dĀ taken a leaf out of Norm Smith's book - Norm watched endless replays of the '54 GF defeatĀ over and over again, analysing where the Dogs picked us apart. Made the team bullet-proof for a decade.

Goodwin had the same opportunity to win 5 premierships in 6 years and completely blew it.Ā

I disagree.

Goodwin has clearly NOT, as you say, "had the same opportunity (as Norm Smith) to win 5 premierships in 6 years..."

Goodwin has been coach of MFC for ONLY 3 years. He has another 3 years before this comparison is valid.

Goody now can't win 5 in 6 like (Norm) but stillĀ I back himĀ to coach Melbourne toĀ at least one flag within the next 3 years.Ā So there!Ā :)

Ā

If some of the stories here are correct it could be that the Club is for the first time thinking the unthinkable. That is terminating Goodwin in the short to medium term. I am sure that was not the case even as recently as the bye. Many are saying Goody is stubborn and inflexible, my view he is not too intelligent, poor education and totally lacking in life experience.

Thanks Grapeviney and for those who were taken in by your comments, our tech people are working on a sarcasm metre with bells and whistles.

Just caught up with this thread.

There has been a serious breech of Demonland protocols !!

Demonland does not have "sources" - itĀ  has "sauces".

Moderators please attend to this deficiency as a matter of urgency. Ā

It's rather tarragont of you to say that thyme is up on this thread.

As Cameron Fry once said.

"Don't make me participate in your stupid crap...You make me get out of bed. You make me come over. You make me make a phony phone call to Edward Rooney? The man could squash my nuts into oblivion. And, and, and then, and then, you deliberately hurt my feelings."

Where's his 5-goals against Fitzroy in 96? Only like 5 games into this career.

I remember watching that game as a 9 year old out at the Whitten Oval. Brilliant game.

But those last two highlights in that top 5 are simply incredible. We've got no one that has that sort of forward genius in our side. Oliver is the midfield equivalent.Ā

Nice pick up Praha.Ā  96 was his breakout year from memory.Ā  I don't recall making that game but the one that sticks in my mind (i think) was the one againstĀ the Tiges at the G.Ā  Might have been an away game.Ā  I was sitting with my tiger mate in the southern stand...roughly M13 and i still recall a running goal around theĀ boundary onĀ the opposite flank that helped win us that match.Ā  We were rank underdogs.Ā Classic early Ooze.Ā  Things began turning slowly from that point i believe into the 2000 GF.Ā  Oooze playing a big part. Although this match might well have been 1997 also.Ā  My memory isn't the greatest.

Look at that forward efficiency.Ā  17.1 disposals per goal and 62% accuracy.Ā  Would kill for that now.

Can we get Clarkson back?

And Pike playing with the Roy boys.Ā  Goes on to win 4 premierships (did he have one already with Norf at that point?)

I wonder if we might have a look at Hirdy in a Senior Assistant role. We need the best people and Hirdy brings an aura and win at all cost mentality. Thoughts?Ā

Best people and winning aura are essential BUt NOT HIRD under any circumstances.

And even when appointed must be embraced by players and all coaches etc. Lewis was an interesting example as was Cross, those two should be still at the club.

But it ain't that simple.

More so, he believed there was a breakdown in chemistry during the pre-season. He also believed that the lack of a runner being able to send out messages for long periods of time hampered the young teams set-up. I wasn't listening, only read what was tweeted by the station. I'll wait for their audio recordings to have a more in depth understanding of what he said.

Weekend at Bernaise, a ripping dive into French culinary history, replete with drama as only Gallic cinema can do.

Not to be confused with the eponymous Weekend at Bernie's where the Bernaise had nothing to do with Bernie's demise.

Or did it? Maybe that’s what the French want us to think, they’re very protective of their sauces.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.Ā  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.Ā  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.Ā  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.Ā

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
