Understand, but for where the MFC sit currently, I'm not sure giving up a first round pick for back pocket/flanker would be the best list management call given the obvious holes we have elsewhere.

Couldnt agree more. If we could develop him into more of a defensive/rebounding winger then I’d be all for it. Plenty of other problems across the park - namely goal kicking small forwards.

Gun player and exactly what we need.

Would make us a far better side.

Very good player.  If we spilt the pick, would very happily hand one of them over for him.

More on field leadership and experience, finals experience down back, would release Salem further up the ground which helps as well. certainly worth consideration if the price is right

Pick 12 for Brad Hill, pick 14 for Laird, pick 21 for Langdon ... plus big Jonno Patton.

Think how much better we’d be. We simply have to get aggressive and bounce back next season. It’s worth it.

we really need to stop with the Brad Hill stuff, he is not coming to Melbourne, not happening, period!

I know we all see things differently which is great but IMO i think Hibbo and Jetta are almost done and Laird would be amazing for us.

I don’t disagree but your use of the word “almost” is operative. I think we need to squeeze/manage whatever we can from those blokes for another two years. Jetta was cruelled by injury this year but is still one of the best small/medium lock downs we have.

Between Lever and May we’ve blown (‘used’ maybe a better choice of word) 3 top 15 draft picks so I’m pretty averse to consuming another in defence where I don’t really see the need right now.

That surely is the issue. We have invested hell of a lot in our defence. We've got so many defenders now we have to turn them into forwards.

Laird is a know commodity, and a very good one at that who will still offer 5 or 6 years service. While we do need younger players coming through he's not old any measure. Plus getting him could release Salem onto the wing, which with the addition of Langdon solves the outside mid issue, one has great speed the other with precision kicking.

All good McQueen, valid point on the us eof first rounders, I hope Nev and Hibbo can bounce and have a good year next year.

The way I see it we do have a looming need for a rebounding defender. We're being ripped apart by the opposition's small forwards and our best small defender, Neville Jetta, isn't getting any younger. Adding Laird to a backline with Frost and May in it helps cover for the likes of Lever; good interceptor but not quick and not agile.

I tend to agree, however I didn’t really like what I saw from Hibberd this year. Looked slow and ineffective compared to his previous few years, with a talent like laird coming into his prime I’d say you’d have to pull the trigger if you had the chance. But if not here’s hoping Hibberd has a strong pre-season leading into improved consistent form next year

Another whisper of a very good player being linked to Geelong. Dangerfield calls a few of the shots apparently down at Cat Park according to Dwayne Russell. As previously stated, I would take Laird if available, not sure about a top 10 pick though.

According to Dwayne Russell! Seriously can't believe any other media outlet would use him as a source, has to be the worst of all the commentators who makes things up to suit his port or cats agendas.

If we were to split the pick, I would very happily hand one of them over form Laird.

25 years old, 2 x All Australian, Best and Fairest winner, prolific ball winner and good user of the ball out of defence... sounds like what we've been crying out for for 10 years.

I could swear one of these new accounts is Sam McClure throwing up different trade scenarios.

Heard a trade Scenario that mirrored one i read on Demonland.

The Cats will have a plethora of early picks once they loose Tim Kelly.

No argument from me on his commentating being well below par. Wouldn’t know if he makes or doesn’t make stuff up. The rumours on up to 10 Crows’ players though have been strong for the last two months, more interested to see if it’s worthwhile poaching one of them. I hope we dip our toes in the water in regards to Laird.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
