"Guy confirmed that the Pies have offered a two-year deal, with three-year contracts on offer from the Demons and Lions...He declined to elaborate on whether the Magpies have increased the financial element of their offer..." Pies Optimistic

I wonder what the Pies equivalent of Carlton's brown-paper-bag is!!  Or a faux job with a sponsor ala the WCE to McGovern!!

Let me be the first to say he is an over rated injury prone player who would spent more time at the tattoo parlour than roaming our forward line.

Dodged a bullet there.

Has Tom Browne actually spoken to someone from our club before claiming ‘ Melbourne reckons they are out of the race’?

Not unless we were willing to off Gus or similar.  Need forwards / outside run & class.

What has Gus got to do with getting Sam Gray?

one extra year is probably not enough to tempt him away unless the coin is  a lot higher.  if Lions or us offer 4 years he would go for sure.  but that is a risky move

Sam usually plays a 50ish/50ish role as mid/forward.  I just think we need a dedicated smallish forward.  If his role was to play 90% forward or similar i'm happy to backflip.

I heard an interesting rumor. Can't reveal my source.

Apparently in North Korean 'work' camps, as a form of cruel torture, they are forcing all prisoners to listen to every minute of trade radio (including last weeks horror) via the camp PA. When live option not avaiable they are looping the hourly updates.

What man will do to each other!

Meh.

I'd be happy to have him, but I also think we can add some further versatility with other players who are potentially on the market.  Hopefully he announces his intentions soon so we can either sign him or move on quickly.

Confirmed: Not coming to Dees

Elliott not moving to Dees

Jamie Elliott has told Melbourne he won't be joining them as a free agent.

The high-flying forward has yet to say where he will play next year, as he is yet to recommit to Collingwood and toured the Brisbane Lions facilities on Saturday as he continues to weigh up an offer from them.

The Demons believed Elliott was likely to remain at Collingwood and the Magpies were confident of re-signing the popular forward on new terms. List manager Ned Guy said on Monday morning the Pies had a two-year deal on the table for Elliott.

The Demons were told Elliott had decided against a move there on Saturday.

Free Agent Jamie Elliott turns down Demons but still yet to declare hand where he'll be next year - Collingwood or Brisbane @agerealfooty

I think Jamie would have been an interesting get, although one fraught with risk of injury. Happy that the decision has been made early, so we can focus elsewhere.

I know the most likely option is the Pies, but given the year the Lions had, and the fact that they are less of a rabble than we are, I wonder if they'll nab him?

SO DD36, who is next then, we need a small forward. Do we get involved in Papley? is it Butler, is it Sam Gray or are we going to head to the draft now.

Does this now make it more realistic that we will split the picks? get 2 first rounders and offer one to get an established player?

Interesting.. not sure where he wants to be, but is clear it is not Melbourne. Oh what a feeling!

Can't imagine why we wouldn't be a destination club! Dees (rabble), the Lions (finals and on the up, big time) or the Pies (home, played a prelim) - tough call! ?

Interesting toured the Lions facilities. That say it all not having comparable facilities is a major impediment to enticing players. It indictment on the AFL that the club is so disadvantaged in this area. Yes the club has a responsibility but Queensland clubs got there through handouts. Level playing field is a myth.

So does this mean we can now afford another season of "Frostball"?

Elliott is hopeless anyway....

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
