Maccas role included a component of list management, he was one of the ones directly involved there, i wonder if with his exit Richo steps straight into that role and looks at the list, or if we have someone else in mind from within to step up, i would say we'll have 2-3 other assistants to come in replacing Jennings and Rawlings so far so it'll be interesting to see where it all ends up.

Richo to me strikes me as someone who learned what it takes to be a successful coach when it was all too late for him at St Kilda so i suspect that experience will be huge for Goodwin, and hopefully preventing a similar sort of end to his coaching career.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but I wonder if Pert hadn't been a fresh face last year and he was a year into his tenure already when we crashed out in the prelim, whether we'd have had all these changes in the FD at the end of last year.

He could hardly come in and make wholesale changes immediately.

I wonder what the internal thinking was at the end of last year. The prelim was unacceptable and we'll bounce back quickly, or did they know it was going to be a difficult year given all the injury interruptions?

More rhetorical all this, but it's interesting to ponder.

This relies on the belief that the CEO oversees the coaching stuff.  Suggest it is Mahoney, as head of football.  The CEO would probably get pantsed for interfering too directly in the FD.

I would imagine that the board would have been asking for a clear plan of how to get back on track, and a review of what went wrong this year.  When the roundabout stops, Mahoney is the one who has to take blame or credit for what happens next.

Well, I think that's part of it too. Pert did have a reputation coming in to the MFC of interfering too heavily in FD matters, so he was less likely to do it as soon as he walked in our door.

It seems like (yes, speculation) that he must be complicit in driving a lot / some of the changes via Mahoney, but I guess we won't know for a while / ever.

Certainly, the Board would be behind much of the change too, because for anyone to get sign off for the moves we've made so far, it would surely have to get Board sign off.

Finally an update on Richo, looks set to become Director of Coaching. No specific line role, but will be unveiled as Director of Coaching as full support for goody.

Now we just need to hear about 2 other main coaching appointments.. when will those dominoes fall?

Where's this being reported @Demon3?

Does this mean he won't be Head of Development? Is this is a restructure and will Director of Coaching oversee development or are we looking at someone else for the Head of Development?

Intrigued to see what other assistants we bring in. Especially the experience good that Rawlings has left us with.

How useful is this position?

I think the title of the position is superfluous. Just another to provide an opinion i guess, almost like a step above senior assistant.

it will be a useless position for us if Goody doesn't relent his stubbornness and start listening to other people's opinions.

It is essential when you have a coach with little coaching experience and who seems out of his depth on gamedays. As I understand it Goodwin's main job is to deal with the media so it does not interfere with the football department.

Simple answer? Without knowing the KPIs and the scope of the position, it's pretty hard to know.

It's just a title. The actual responsibilities adjust to suit the capabilities of the person filling it.

If the person is good, the role becomes good. The opposite is also true.

For Christ's sake (and the Demons' !!!) I hope this person is capable. It would help if they actually know something about coaching. The omens aren't good.

If Richo is Goodys mentor, I’m not sure I agree with this. No success as head coach, didn’t see much evidence of tactical skill at saints although they always beat us.

Hope they know what they are doing.

Who would you have brought in?

Serious question - as I’m not sure who else would seriously have been in the mix for this role, and Richardson’s services were apparently very much in demand.

Caro in The Age wrote that Essendon talked to Richo about mentoring Rutten in 2020.

Total false story by caro, richo meets with essendon, so she  assumed that they were seeking him to mentor a new coach, richo said that was what job he was looking for, they wanted him in a another role. They always had worsfold in mind if he agreed to it. This is how caro works she hears a few bits of information and puts 2 +2 and comes up with 6.

Hence, she still gets one more than most.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
