I’m in Bratislava and it’s been great. Eating and drinking then saw the result. Had another drink ?

Nice! Watch out for the open manholes on your stumble home ;)

Funny cos I'm in Basel dealing with an irritating Slovakian. Still better than watching footy this year though.

The score is currently 39-20 and watching on delay. I've just logged onto the latest page and I'm guessing we lose because we're playing with no heart at all. No interest at all in seeing it unfold, may as well save 90 minutes of my life.

Edit: Ok, now to start back with page 1, and afl.com saying its 95-41 or something, ew.

First time post - long time lurker on Demonland but I have to say this was terrible.. like someone else's comment regarding buying a membership next year - forget it.. I canned it 3 years ago (was 10 years straight) and never lived in Australia during that time.  Only came for 1-2 matches per year which costs over $3k in flights/accom but [censored] that... im even contemplating cancelling the international watch afl app !!

Dude if you're still looking for a place to drink, find the student bar up on the 5th level of some building. Ppl will know what you're talking about

Given the team we had on the park, I'm just not sure what people were expecting. Seriously. We had a midget forward line with 2 actual forwards in it, is the lack of conversion from I50's a surprise?

People should stop looking for clever reasons as to why we're performing badly. We have 17 players unavailable, including some really key players at both ends of the ground, and we're putting what is largely a VFL-quality team on the park. Surprise surprise, we're losing - and at times, losing badly.

Fritsch and who?

We placed season 2019 in the too hard basket and filed it away under lost causes a few weeks ago. If modern day AFL football is all about having a recognisable brand then the last five weeks have been caustic for ours. If rusted on Dees fans are feeling disillusioned about what they're seeing then we have no hope of attracting any millennials in our quest for 70k+ members.

“Fail to plan; plan to fail”.  Another game lost at the selection table

Was this the master coach’s shrewd plan when Max needed a well earned rest - play CP5 in the ruck??

And Preuss, whilst not a great player by any means, would have made mince meat of the Swans’ rucks, AND have given us a solitary tall forward option to at least hold their taller defenders accountable - but even though he won 1001 hit outs at VFL last week, .....?!

Agree. Went small.  Microscopic actually.  Fritsch and Melksham as key forwards.  Dunkley Chandler Anb Spargo.

Preuss would have presented and given the contest like he did earlier in the year.

Posted

We could have got an old Bert from the bar stool at the local club, any footy club to help with selection and say Preuss needed to play to add some height and give Max a much deserved chop out for the work he has put in for the season. And right on cue, poor Max cops an injury with one game to go. Unbelievably stupid. How could you argue preuss was not worthy of a game when you have Spargo and Chandler in the side.

I have joked for years following this mob is like having a relationship breakdown... They continually break your heart in new & heartbreaking ways then promise you it will be okay so you take them back for them only to disappoint you all over again. It's like for 6 weeks of 2018 it all was all looking up & could finally see an exciting future only for them to rip your heart out once & for all and there seems no way you can get back on this merry-go-round. I need a break once again from this club.

After 53 years of following this club I felt like something died in me last night. That was simply insipid. For years, the highlight of my weeks during Winter has been watching the Dees play wherever I may have been in the world.  If you guys only knew the lengths I have gone to to not miss a MFC game! At times, it’s cost me a small fortune.

I woke this morning with the realisation that I just can’t handle the disappointment any more. It’s too effing demoralising.

For now at least, I will step back and concentrate my valuable time on other things and avoid anything football related for as long as I can. I won’t be renewing my membership in 2020 which has stunned my family but my decision is made.

If I don’t post again, thanks guys for the humour, fellowship and debate. Take care.

PD

Just two ins - or rather one in and one less out - so Preuss to relieve Max and Hunt to provide a marking target forward could have made a difference. I have no idea what went on at selection unless the intent was to break the club's confidence entirely.

10 more inside 50's, yet we lost by almost 10 goals.

You can NOT defend that when its been happening all year.

Downhill skiers .. we are 2nd last in the comp for tackle difference. Swans tackled more with 9 players who have played less then 50 games! Goodwin has unwound Roos working both ways! His game plan is crap! Needs to go or we will be 2013 Neeld again!

My favourite part was when the players just decided to start trying to take hangers at the end (Harmes especially). I guess they have busted their guts up to this point so they were due a little bit of fun

Haha! This was actually my favourite part. Fritsch put in some ripper if majorly mistimed attempts but this was my genuine highlight of the game. I was hoping someone would complain so I could express that. As far as I can tell they have busted their guts this season (unless you have some clear evidence to the contrary?), the season is over, so why not have some fun? I wish they were all told to go out and have fun.

Very serious... not sure  what's up assistant coaches leaving.. concerning game plan .. not doing the 1% tackling! regardless of personnel you expect all players who come in & do this stuff which is culture! Goodwin needs to go I’m afraid as he’s taken a competitive list & turned into a nothing list in less than 12mths!

Is Lewis definitely retiring? That could have been his last game at the G. For anyone brave enough to stay beyond the siren, was he clapped off, given a thanks, anything?

AN OVERATED LIST OF B grade plodders, throw in lack of culture, willingness to win at all costs, no polish or X factor and a history of unaccountabiltity and  no real relentless desire , congratulations welcome to MFC.

Our long history of pathetic losses continues.

Our recruiting regardless of draft picks has been poor. The last diamond in the rough uncovered was Harmes. Where is our  Willi Rioli, Stack, etc etc just must have X factor.

15-18th next year Richardson caretaker coach at the bye.

Lastly Clarkson and his clan will win another flag this year 7 in a row.

We backed the wrong horse . Needed a Clarkson assistant.

I hope the players enjoy their last week at work

Get refreshed after your last game and spend your holidays finding your passion for playing for the MFC

Question:  can one find something that is not there? If it has been lost there is some hope of finding it, but if it isn’t actually not there then there is no hope.

If we were showing any desperation to compete and win then fine. We are getting out tackled every single week. These guys haven't even seen what might happen if they genuinely compete in the physicality stakes.

I'm not kidding when I say the fact that there are still people in the MFC community who think what we are being served up is acceptable is the absolute root of everything that is wrong with this football club.

It's not that it's acceptable, but what else did anyone expect? Once I saw May, Petty and OMac were out and replaced by Chandler, Spargo and Stretch and we were fielding the shortest team in living memory I knew we would lose by over 5 goals.

This season was over months ago yet people are still outraged after each loss. I don't get it. The challenge will be in how they rebound next year, not next week.

Also the swans played for PRIDE.

I wonder if the dees even know what the means.

I think we all expected a loss..What we didn't expect is the complete lack of effort that was on display last display. Boys have mentally checked out and are now turned their attention to mad Monday.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
