Workrate will be a big plus and good for others in the playing group to see.

I thought he was good today in the conditions which didn't allow for quality disposal.

I'm seeing a fair bit of flexibility in him, Pedersens replacement, hard working link up player

Agree, handy 3rd forward or back that can also play through the wing.

CHB would suit him IMO.

Not many blokes leave after playing in a GF. Wonder if Giants will resign him now.

Will he play though? He came in this week and 3 will have to go out if Greene, Whitfield and Coniglio play.

They weren't supposed to win last night either. Once you're there, anything  can happen

Less injury prone and an upgrade on players we’ve already and probably going to delist. Additionally, we don’t have to trade for him.

Pies thought that, until they did.

Well if they win, they'll take displace us as the most recent team to win a grand final from 6th (in 1900).

26 years old and a restricted free agent.  Drafted in 2011 so 8 years on the GWS list by trading time.

Approximately half our list isn't up to it (or unproven) and if our only cost is salary cap space then we acquire him if he wants to come to us.

We can get 5-6 years of football out of the bloke and we get to add another decent player to the list.  Do it times 3 if other restricted free agents are available.  Why stop at one?  Our list needs an injection of talent.

Think of Tomlinson as replacing a player who we're going to delist anyway.  It's a no-brainer really.

A couple of his kicks were ok but he was let down by team mates not attacking the ball. He would've hit Cameron on the [censored] but he eased up and tried to chest mark it.

I'm more worried that he's just going to struggle to crash in for the ball and jump up and tackle, chase etc at his size on the wing than I am about his disposal.

Put up a very honest effort in the ruck.

As long as he's a utility getting paid towards the bottom of the 22 I'm happy to have him. If we're expecting more we're going to be disappointed.

And that's the issue. He will be paid very well.

It Tomlinson lands here, Preuss must be traded.

Preuss and Melbourne would both be crazy if Preuss is in the red and blue next year anyway.  Good solid no.1 ruckman for Geelong or GWS, but a liability forward.

great, and then we'd have austin bradtke as our secondary ruck option...

Plus from my understanding, he enjoys training with Maxy. I think our press release around him last year was a bit of a faux pas in that we've actually got him to not only be a back up if Maxy goes down but to also eventually take over in a couple of years when Maxy's output may decline and Preuss is in his prime.

Rubbish.

Agree.

Most sides have 2-3 ruckman on the list.

We have 2 and a developing 3rd. By the time Bradtke is ready, if he gets there,  Max will be in his 30's.

Tomlinson is not a ruckman, he is a swingman.

And Joel Hamling from Bulldogs to Fremantle.

Come on mate, there’s only one Titus O’Reilly.

And Hamling only slipped into the side after injuries to others, much like Tomlinson.

Happy with that.....even better if we delisted O-Mac in the process

O-Mac TGR.  Tomlinson as a swingman can handle that role (couldn't be any worse) with aplomb in comparison if we get desperate through injury.

Pruess is still handy in thr ruck if Max is having a break for a week or so.  A great 'managed' go to for Max especially late into a long season.

Tomlinson played a total of 80 out of 81 games before finals. Not sure someone could have slipped into the side if they've been there for all of 3 seasons...

I didn’t mean it in a negative way, I’m a fan. But he was out of the 22 until injuries arrived. Moreso mentioning it as a reason why he would be looking at his options and whether staying would be in his best interests, flag or otherwise.

Tomlinson is better than our bottom 6-8 in the best 22 we have at the moment i think, therefor,e if you can make that group stronger you do it.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
