Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

That would concern me.  Goodwin, Plapp and Chaplin inexperienced and we don't have a forward coach.  They didn't do well when we hit rough water.

Jennings' role was 'strategy', effectively our 'brains trust'.  He served us very well for until this year.  But so many things went wrong this year it can't be put down to his strategy work.

Goodwin needs more and better help than he had last year not less.  Extra unnecessary burden on him if Jennings is not replaced.

I think there in lies the problem, Jennings became the brains trust for the lot and not the actual coach. I reckon they are stripping it back.

Something not adding up....

Looking back at Mahoney's interview last friday, and taking my MFC goggles off, I think Mahoney was ambushed by the question. He wasn't expecting it and ended up floundering through it. I think he meant that we weren't looking at any more coaches because we may have already decided on them and are just filling in the minor details before we announce the signings.

If Jennings overstepped his remit that is an issue with Jennings not the reason to cease the role.  Many clubs have a strategy coach, including Clarkson.

Interestingly when Geelong (Bomber), Richmond (Hardwick) and Collingwood (Buckley) did their big reviews they took tasks off the senior coach and/or taught them to delegate and it did wonders delivering premierships and GF appearances.  I would be concerned if we were doing the opposite and putting more work on Goodwin.

He has more than enough to worry about without doing all the strategy work.

Just out of interest...

Has Jennings got another job yet.

I know he was looking to coach his won team.

i didn't say he overstepped at all,  i just think they relied on him to much and stripping it back isn't such a bad thing IMO, there are way to many coaches at a football club as it stands.

Look who knows, we will possibly get a strategic coach, but maybe, just maybe, the coach might end up being that. Who knows.

Apologies, misinterpretation on my part.

Still feel Goodwin needs more and better experience than less.  But as you say, who knows.  All will be revealed soon, I hope.

All good LH, I probably didn't explain it to well. Certainly agree that Goody needs help, Hopefully Richo can do that and i hope he himself can step up and loosen up.

Throw all the $$$ at Matty Scarlett. Fat chance he'd even consider leaving Geelong, but getting him would go a long way to helping us with our defensive issues.

Scarlett was a top grade beckman, but what is his coaching pedigree?

Just being a top player doesn't make one a top coach - Voss, Hird, and even over his first few years, Buckley spring to mind:

and, conversely, I don't remember Clarkson as being a top player but his coaching career has been "pretty reasonable".

Maybe that is the real problem - 1,2,3,4 quarters in a game, not just 1,2,3, or 1,2, or 1, or 0 !

Didnt we appoint Alan Richardson to take tasks off the senior coach?

He's Geelong's backline coach. That unit outperforms their individual quality.

Burton reportedly a major factor behind the issues at the Crows.  Wouldn’t go anywhere near him from what I’ve heard.

Not sure about Camporeale.

Yeah sorry, should have made it clearer in my post that Camporeale was the only one I would consider. Burton is absolutely hated by Adelaide fans.

Definitely not Burton.  I have heard he is terrible.

Yeah, my post wasn't very clear I realized afterwards. Camporeale was the one I was talking about in an assistant coach capacity. He might not have come on, but I seem to remember a few years ago he was all the rage.

I think he coached for a bit also after Phil Walsh.

Melbourne seems to have really reduced the amount of assistant coaches, which seems odd.

I do know they were after John Barker but he ended up staying at Carlton, it’s strange they are still not looking for another one.

Seems to be a bit like the re-signing batch we had where they did it over time but then put out the one announcement later on.

Weird way to do it, but from what I've seen most (if not all) clubs have taken down their staff pages from their websites so maybe there's some new procedure or some other reason behind the scenes.

For those still interested, at some point in the last few days melbourne has updated the coaches page on the website. The only changes are the removal of Jennings, Mccartney and rawlings.

But, Richardson has not been added yet. Could that mean there are still some pending incoming coaches annoucements?

Rooke is still there listed as a development coach so he is probably staying now.

May be as simple as him not being on the payroll as yet.

The coaches have a common sign on/sign off date which is around now as I understand it. The ones who moved on would have been paid out to that date one assumes.

Soft salary caps and our financial position may preclude early sign ons.

Then again it could just be an oversight.

Welcome to Demonland.

They have also updated the player profiles page to include Tomlinson and Langdon sans the numbers that they will have.

Billy Stretch and JKH are still there (only delisted today) but they've removed the recently retired and other previously delisted players.

Mahoney has said on I believe two radio interviews that there will be no more changes in or out to the coaching staff.

I believe Mahoney also mentioned that Richardson hadn't officially started but had been down to the club on multiple occasions.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
