The Age is talking about a coaching revamp, Rawlings takes over the forward line, McCartney and Rooke back to player development. Recognition that things aren’t working!

Not really the Topic headline I would've gone for.

Rawlings promoted to Demons forward coach.

Rooke demoted to development role.

McCartney shifted back in to development.

Changing the forwards coach was a pretty clear reality after record forward line inefficiency. Not saying it was all Rooke's fault but it was time to make some changes.

Bye bye Rooke...

White collar version of musical chairs?

Rooke and Macca look like they are close to being chairless

Officially in crisis mode, nothing’s off the table from here on in, including all coaches, players and the bored!

Well it makes sense, the season has gone so let’s review our coaches for the last 11 matches. I never liked that Rawlings went to Casey but thought it must be at his request for development but now we have him back. What changes in the so called lack of midfield connection to the forward line, next week will be interesting to see. Let’s hope it gets better.

This is great...   very proactive stuff from the club.  Jade back in as forwards coach.  Love it.

Pleased with the developments as it's what a lot of us were calling for.

The right time too in the sense where we've got the 2nd half of the season to get our act together.

Puts everyone on notice which was also necessary.  There is a need to make sure all are working together as a team though and that's where Pert needs to be able to cast a discerning eye

Yet another change for the players themselves - another revamp of instructions hiding the total failure of the Goodwin game plan and its implementation, no doubt. Another series of 'how to play football' all over again, that most probably will infuse further failure and uncertainty in the players. Confusion, mid-season, reigns! All done with limited depth and availability with old trojans leading the way with footy field habits carved in granite. Change just ain't going to happen - not for a clutch of years - with this level of either: persistence in a mask - or Game Plan Mark II. We will persist with failure until we are proven wrong. At that point, we will deny and mask it all, because contractually, we're safe. We know it is necessary but that moment was months ago!

Excellent. What was happening earlier this year had to change.

Roll the Dice Boys.....Who will survive?

Great news. Find it strange that over the last few weeks people were complaining about our assistants, the President, the CEO, the fitness staff, the lack of a 'review', yet here we are with some proactive changes made clearly after Bartlett has conducted internal reviews and people are complaining?

Interesting that Misson has seemingly also been demoted (reading between the lines a bit).

Congratulations also to Sam Radford who has been promoted to senior coach of Casey.

By bored do you mean us spectators who are bored with our inability to convert inside 50s?

Unfortunately I suspect it will take a lot longer than one week to correct and rejig all of this.

Good to see some proactivity but you get the feeling these moves are just portents to some more sweeping changes post-season.

Pert and Bartlett are rattling cages. They had to.

I'm bored. The chairman of the bored

Some more clarity from the club here, including that the players were consulted on what changes they thought would work and that it was all due to a review:

Melbourne seeks opportunities to improve

“We looked at the whole department and said, ‘How can we set up a better structure, how can we set up better programs and processes?’, and that probably took three or four weeks of internal interviews with staff, players and coaches."

Hallelujah. Rooke  has obviously been identified as the weakest link and McCartney is on the way out - after what he reportedly said about goal kicking in the training report, no wonder.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
