The lowlight was having to report a scum supporter today for abuse. No idea if anyone will follow it up, but he was drunk and abusive and of course had a small child with him, because why not continue the cycle of being a filthy piece of human dog [censored]?!

Anyway I thought our backline was good. The difference May and Lever made was immense. May was excellent. Lever got better as the game wore on. Hannan likewise. So nice to have some quality back in the side.

Gawn was superb was always. Grundy can clean his shoelaces as far as I’m concerned. A superb midfielder and leader.

Our contested work was good, but as has been the case all year, we have no purpose using the ball going forward of Centre. I don’t know what the game plan is, but it’s failing. Chaos ball is dead.

Speaking of dead, Tom McDonald’s career... what has happened? I would give him the rest of the year off and pop Preuss at FF. How much worse can it get?!!

Goody will most likely ensure it does by soldiering on with more the same.

Something to look forward to!

Positives for me were our backline actually played well. Our midfielders were too dam lazy to give them a chop out. Lever, May, Hore Hibberd and even Fritsch all played extremely well.

It is officially time to take the captaincy off both Jones and Viney. Jones is Finished and Viney is an ordinary footballer. Max Gawn to me has captain material written all over him with Lever to take over afterwards. Be done with it and just give him the AA honours. Definitely has the best and fairest sewn up.

That'll be Wagner's last game in the red and blue. Will be delisted. Should have brought in Stretch.

Worse game i have ever seen Salem play.

McDonald can [censored] off to Casey. Get Pruess in and get him rotating with Gawn up forward.

At least we'll have a top 5 draft pick.

Once again, we win all the stats but are useless going forward.

Your gameplan is junk Goodwin

Wake up Fool....

Sick of it...

Neale Daniher had to sit and watch that rubbish....

what rot, goodwin is not responsible for our poor kicking and turnovers. we had virtually the same number of shots for goal as the pies, it is not his fault that our players cannot kick a goal, hit a target by foot or by hand.  the players are the ones on the field who needed to stand up and play but they did not. dropping easy chest marks, fumbling the ball, not chasing, not tacking... i doubt any of these were part of the coaches game plan. Salem had 8 turnovers, a player playing in the backline turning it over so often will result in the opposition scoring. Garlett was woeful, while spargo did some ok things he also screwed up a few things that would have made a difference. Not sure what value Wagner gave us, mcdonald was woeful, Hannan probably needed another week in the VFL to get some match fitness rather than playing. Angus's disposal efficiency was down and both of our captains did not provide a lot of assistance. So not sure how the coach can cop all the blame given the above.

It also annoyed the [censored] out of me when they said Grundy was the starting AA ruckman and Gawn was on the bench

Goodness me A) Get your facts right, and B) WATCH THE GAME IN FRONT OF YOU!

When I watch the game I try to block my ears because the commentators talk so much drivel now.

Ok so now I’m thinking maybe be May up forward and TMac down back again???

We have to start  trying these things right?

We are not making finals , so time to experiment.

Thought Maxy deserved a paragraph of his own. He is simply immense. He’s playing as a genuine midfielder now without giving up any of his other strengths. If we were winning he’d be being lauded as the best player in the game on current form.

The big bloke should not have to wear the responsibilities of the team - even when he can and does. An amazing champion, deserves the Captaincy - and some support.

Laughing stock of the league, prelim to bottom 4, only MFC could do this

Yet supporters clapping them off the ground!

Even better, bottom 4 is generous.

If the Blues beat the dogs, and the Suns beat the Saints next week (both very possible)...

We'll be dead last.

TMac is too slow ATM to play back, he would be worse off. I agree with may forward. Thats where he starred as a junior.

As ever... Been the case for a fair while. St Kilda this year and last year, Essendon etc etc

This is coaching

You’d think what he’s saying is incredibly obvious. Then I look to our match committee & coaches box...

Goodwin is a poor coach, he always has been, but blaming him for our loses is bullsh*t. Goodwin isn't to blame for Salem turning the ball over all day, Viney declining, McDonald being a spud, and our mids not delivering the ball effectively into 50 (its not like Goodwin hasn't spoken of it).

Completely agree.

It's not even that we aren't playing finals.  Why during the game does Goodwin not throw the magnets around and swap Tmac and May?  Does he not understand that you have to kick a higher score than the opposition to win?  Tmac is a complete and utter liability up forward.  Best game of the year for him was against Richmond when he played down back.  Throw the bloody magnets around during the game Goodwin and stop being so passive! It's infuriating!

Give me Jay Lockhart forward over Garlett. Jeffy looks done.

2nd that!  Jeffy's done guys.  Can't catch anyone unless theyre next door and misses half his tackles.  Has no strength through body or for the contest anymore and is running on talent alone.

Lockhart has earned a call up after yesterday's solid performance.

Put weeds at full forward and may at centre half forward.  Pruess in a forward pocket to ensure weeds does not have all the big men on him. put tom back into the backline so that he can get some form back. time for jeffy to go back to the VFL, his failure to take a kick 35m out shows the lack of confidence. Hannan and spargo back to the vfl next week to get some form. only one should come back in against freo.

Also it was good to see Weideman work his way into the game 2nd half. 50 more games and couple of pre seasons and he'll be cluncking more of those pack marks that he is jumping at.

Frost went off in the first quarter with concussion and Salem was injured in the same incident. I'm not sure he was right for the rest of the game either. He didn't play his usual game and he had a heavy bandage around his head. Concussion as well??

We played some pretty good footy at times today.

Now … I reckon .... we only need to learn how to kick, mark and handball … and we'll win a few games.

We need a magic wand.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
