Based on Smiley’s injury report:

In - Salem, JFK, Weideman

out- Spargo, C Wagner, T Smith

Meanwhile Adelaide probably get back Lynch, M Crouch, Gibbs, and a rejuvenated Jenkins in the one week - aces...

I wonder whether Brayshaw is a victim of the inability of Jones to play on the wing. My suspicion is that the coaches thought that the joint output of Brayshaw on the wing and Jones in the middle would be better than Brayshaw in the middle and Jones on the wing. I have no doubt that Jones has been better with the shift; but at the expense of Brayshaw. I'd put Brayshaw back in the middle and Jones in the forward pocket and find someone else for the wing.

They should nt play Jones if he has no role  Its hurting us and is not making Jones look any better

Jake leaver player 60% game time in his return, then played a half last week before rolling his ankle. In what world would any other club bring back there star recruit after a year off with his second Knee reconstruction this early, regardless of what situation the club is in

This is a desperate club right now that is clinging onto the "stars returning will change our year" narrative. The year is done, we may win a few more games( i still think we will finish bottom 4 - our % is woeful) but its cooked. Dont rush back your stars they are valuable commodities, so why not take the opportunity to get them going before throwing them back into the mire of the senior side.

It's a reasonable question to ask, but game time is but a small part of the total number of hours of rehab. It's reasonable to assume that Lever has done hours of fitness work including during the last couple of weeks, so I would expect him to be fully fit. If he's not, I would be very disappointed in the club's decision to pick him.

I appreciate that his "touch" may not be back, but I'd be dubious about any player trying to regain their touch in the VFL anyway. The pace of the game is so different, I'm not convinced there's much value for a player trying to regain their touch via the VFL. In fact, I have been of the view for some time that players who spend most of their time in the VFL struggle when promoted to the AFL not just because of their inherent deficiencies, but because they've become conditioned to playing in the lower grade and find the transition difficult.

Lever didn't get through training, Hannan needs another game at Casey surely

In: Salem, JKH, ANB, Weids, Hibberd,

Out: C. Wagner, J Wagner, Spargo, Petty, Fritsch

Edit: Surely Preuss plays... maybe replaces T Smith ? Or even T Mac ffs

Petty should be first out imo. Our worst defender on the weekend and that is saying something

If accomodating Jones is hampering Brayshaw, then we need to do some serious thinking.

Goodwin and his advisers should be looking for a new job on Monday if they are stupid enough to even consider playing Lever this week.

All Goodwin is doing is lining up the excuses for Saturday night's post match press conference.

Risky call to bring JKH back after one game but i have more faith in him than Wagner at the moment and from all reports he didn’t miss a beat. Unfortunately Wagner has looked lost during our defensive zone set ups from what I have seen of him live.

Nothing against JKH, but Corey Wagner got 20 -odd possessions lasat week in a dfence that had no support further up the ground , so if that is getting lost, I hope we see him when he is found. He is a very inexperienced player 10 or so games. The same criticism was made of Marty Hore after his first game.

Goody has also said that ANB will be another week out with concussion

That would be Josh Wagner. C Wagner had 8 possessions.

Risk. Lever is not a silver bullet. He needs another Casey game at least if he plays at all. IMO May and Preuss in - we must have Gawn supported in the ruck and backline. Build the team up from there. Jones to the wing with strong 'no bombing' instructions.

Corey should get in - possession and a week of reflection can only continue to improve. He does want the ball.

They won't play May in ones fresh from injury either. Once bitten twice shy as they say.

Lever just said on AFL tonight that he’s not playing this week, didn’t come up after training and should be back against Collingwood.

I think you have the Wagners mixed up. Josh was the one that got more of the ball, Corey was one of the players that offered the no support from further up the field you speak of.

All I’m saying from my observations, Corey struggled to transition from the forward line to defence. I did see him try and run with Whitfield at times and couldn’t keep up, not many would though. Just the way I saw it dimmy,  nothing personal against Corey.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
