Goodwin has fallen for Simpson's three card trick, Vardy was never going to ruck by himself when the better ruckmen bring hickory isย  available,ย  team selection is Goodwin's Achilles heel he's got no idea about team selection he should be kept out of the team selection process, they're going to Target Max work him over, vardy is just going to smash into him whenever he has got the chance.

Simple Simon.

West Coast twice,

Adelaide twice,

Sydney once,

Geelong... well, just about.

We just seem to come to play when weโ€™re,

1: On the road

2: When weโ€™re the clear underdogs.

Not the same team, we know... but somethingโ€™s in the air tonight.

Cannot understand the Preuss non selection.

His game last week was almost outstanding. If he wasn't selected he should be at Casey building up his tank and perfecting his forward role.

Taking him as an emergency is just strange.

Weidman's non appearance for Casey along with Spargo is equally perplexing. With the two injuries at the senior level last week to Melksham and Hibberd the team structure is becoming non existent.

especially since Hickey is now in

ย

I actually reckon it might be the other way and we flew Pruess over as a bit of gamesmanship. I think Goodwin has conceded that we won't beat westcoast in the air and will endeavour to play the game on the ground.

That's my take.. I don't think he got outfoxed, they'd have played Pruess if they'd wanted to.

Hickey in for WCE

Good to see we learn from our mistakes.ย

FMD it shouldnโ€™t have mattered if Hickey was in or not Preuss should have been selected.ย

Our read of the tea leaves tonight suggests the season's trajectory has turned ever so slightly on an upward trend.ย  Victory is tangibly close provided there is total team belief and commitment to theย  fundamentals.ย

You mean there are other possible scenarios here apart from the one that says that Goodwin doesn't know what he's doing?

Radical.

Is it too late to bring Pruess in right now to counter their trick?

Weโ€™re better with Pruess and Max together anyway.ย

Was it Hickey at the Saints that always used to towel Maxy up?

He jumps into Maxy at every stoppage to wear him out.ย

Love that some on here are trying to set up the story that if we lose its because Preuss wasnโ€™t selected... so they can somehow feel vindicated when we lose.

Really!ย

Weโ€™ve been decimated with injuries and the coaching panel have developed and are deploying their best strategy to enable us to win... and it donโ€™t include Pruess, and they (our coaches) know a lot more than any on here.

and weโ€™llย still probably lose, but have given it our best crack.

some respect

go Demons.

There is still time for a very late change for a player who is sore/injured during the warm-up eg Oscar if he is sore from last week.ย  It really can't be Petty as it wouldn't be fair to select him and drop him at the last minute.

The thing is it was just so obvious WCE would bring in Hickey at the last minute.ย  If Preuss doesn't come in Goodwin has a good reason.ย

If we don't bring in Preuss and WCE tag and work Max over again I hope Goodwin has a very big flack jacket as fans (DL's) will have mega meltdowns be they warranted or not.

Thatโ€™s bull.ย

Clubs should not be able to pull a player out for โ€˜general sorenessโ€™ to create a mismatch. People can say Goodwin hasย had the wool pulled over his eyes,ย bollocks!

WCE shouldย get fined the same as a club staying to pull a player in from outside the emergency listed players.

Surprised we didnโ€™t play Pruess, but thatโ€™s not the point!

It's a bit like watching Collingwood and Carlton, you are thrilled that one has to lose but unfortunately one has to win for that to happen

Yep was one of the few ruckmen which would rough him up and at worst break evenย

A tale of 2 teams

Last year in the prelim, we were on fire, hungry, and playing with nearly a full team (plus we were feared and favoured, which was no doubt helped by the fact that we had recently beaten the Eagles at the same ground). Then we got belted.ย

This year, we are out of form, still fairly unfit, and having to choose from the most depleted list in the league. It doesn't bode well. Arguably we should lose by more as all the factors that were in our favour in the prelim no longer exist. It really could, and should be ugly.

But is it too much to dream? I love an underdog story. Maybe I'm just fatigued (1 month newborn at home), but this is the exact sort of game good teams can win. It's not impossible. Unlikely, sure, but impossible?

I've tipped us by 1 point. We CAN do this.

Go Dees! ??

Dirty move by the Eagles to bring in Hickey late, but what else would anyone expect from that drug den of a club.

I thought that was the case. I recall Hickey being the ruck in the infamous 'straight arm' free kick game where the umps slaughtered Maxy to the point he almost gave up.

This doesn't bode well.

ย

I agree with Ouch! What the heck is general soreness anyway?ย They would have known about that well before the game. It amounts to cheating in my view. Typical West Coast *%*#.ย

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturdayโ€™s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFLโ€™s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
