Patton won't work in the forward system we need to play.

We already have a cumbersome, ordinary forward line that completely lacks pace and gets rebounded off week in and week out. Patton would contribute to this problem.

A player like Himmelberg as some have noted is a really good example of a nimble forward that can take a big mark but get the job done on the ground too. Even Greenwood from Adelaide, Lever's best mate, would be an interesting idea to play forward. Quick, strong, a decent kick and a good mark. Could rotate between the midfield and deep forward.

We need to radically change our set up, making us faster, unpredictable and harder to coach against.

We need a fit Melksham, a fit Hannan, even a fit Vandenberg would help. Along with Petracca, a Greenwood-type, Caddy, Bolton and another quick (how's Bedford coming along?), this will drastically change our forwardline.

Personally, I'd implement far more rotation and switching between deep forward, half forward and midfield than we do. I'd basically play a similar system to Liverpool in soccer. The front 3 or 4 attackers constantly rotate in and out of midfield, wide positions and attack. I'd look at making us dynamic as possible by making a lot of our positions agnostic and interchangeable.

Patton doesn't won't work if we go down this sort of path.

Bedford a medium term MAYBE at this point.  At least another season at Casey away from impacting (or thereabouts) IMV.

A big yes to the rest of your post AND Roosts highlighted bit below.

We have been too immobile for years for too many blocks of matches.  Major injection of movement needed aka Fritschkreig & a little from Petty on Sat night.  Melk in 2020.  Why im super keen on Cameron.  He offers the mobility and goal smarts and can clunk them anywhere playing outside the arc & in/around the goal square.  I know we wont get him but a Lynch/Cameron/Himmelburg type is a huge must along with a few quality small forwards.

We need pace, class and players in the 22-26 bracket.  Patton will go to the Hawks, a massive no to Jenkins and perhaps a new coach but that’s yet to be fully proven.

...."Unfortunately for key forward Jon Patton, a minor setback has delayed his return from a torn ACL last year.

He was set for a return via the NEAFL, but that has been pushed back by up to three weeks.

“With Patton, he was about to return a couple of weeks ago, we’ve just had a couple of minor little setbacks at training and just the final piece of the puzzle in terms of returning to play,” he said.

“That might be in a few weeks time.

“We were going smooth sailing there, but then we just had a couple of little setbacks so it might be another two or three weeks, but it’s hard to put a timeline on that.”

End.

"Minor, little setbacks"???

Please no!

Injury prone. I seriously doubt we are in the market for a high priced crock. Don't worry Mr Shadow he ain't coming to the Dees.

No worse then Weeds who injures himself 3-4 times a year

I wouldn’t have an issue with us having a look at Patton, I’m not sure what gets the job done in terms of picks/trade options. He is injury prone and that’s the major risk we’d take with him, it’s a matter of whether our (new) high performance team would feel that they can nurse him back to health without too many regular setbacks.

Right now our forward line is completely impotent, do we think that TMac will get back to his best? Do we think Weids will become the player we hope he can be?

In the last two trade periods we’ve given up two forward in Watts and Hogan (while also delisting Pedders who had decent hands on him) but haven’t got any sort of key forward back. I don’t think we can continue to hope TMac and Weids will be the answer to our goal kicking issues.

Him going to Hawthorn is a fait acompli.

The Hot Air Balloons on Footy Classified were all in agreement that this deal is all but done.  They said he isn't playing at any level right now so as to avoid injury before his move to Hawthorn.

Dees Pick 2(3) for GWS picks 11,13&Patton. Now there’s a deal we should push for!

I think we will struggle to get him in the cap....I believe his contract is in excess of 700k

I don’t mind it but we need OUTSIDE RUNNERS like we have for the last 13 seasons.

Once someone is linked to a hawks you might as well walk away.. They are so ruthless and just know how to get the job done.

God if only we could be like that on and off the field.

Not Patton.

3 knee recos. Not 1, not 2, but 3....

Patton?? His knees are shot. Let the Hawks deal with his broken body. If this season taught us anything, its that we need players who can stay on the park

A full forward who averages 1 goal and 1 tackle per game?

Sign me up!

Like Scully and O’Meara’s “broken bodies”?

Hmmm.

Hmmm.

Scully is one of the least damaging players in the comp.

I'll give you O'Meara, but they paid plenty to get him.  There is a reason Scully came cheap and it's the same reason as to why Patton will come for the same price.

Hes cooked.

Big pass from me.

I could name about 10 in the last 22 who ran out for us who are less damaging than him.

Preferably into the forward 50 and actually hit a target rather than dumping it on their heads and praying they take mark of the yr each time.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
