Surely the idea is that they want Florent.

Mention 4 others you have no choice of getting (Heeney, Mills, Blakey & Parker) then Florent, and Florent seems like the reasonable option.

Mention you’d accept Florent, Jackson Thurlow, Harry Cunningham or Daniel Menzel, and they’d be cramming Menzel down your throat as the right option.

Essendon can't afford to lose Daniher. He is going to be a great player. Needs to fix up his kicking, but at present his stock would be higher if he was out there. Dodoro is just saying we will keep him or you will offer us something ridiculous. And Essendon have every right to do that, as their default position is to keep him. Sydney want him they need to come up with massive overs to really satisfy Essendon. Dodoro is just doing common sense trading, not rocket science. He is the best in the business when it comes to negotiation, and by a fair margin. Hopefully we don't have to deal with Essendon, we'd have probably given away this years first rounder for another broken down defender.

You mean like the 2nd rounder we paid for the guy who was AA in red and blue?

It's all bluff. Dodoro plays the media and fans for fools and everyone buys in to it. The days of Essendon being unwilling to trade fairly are well and truly over. They've done deals for Shiel, Stringer, Saad, Smith in and Hibberd, Ryder, Melksham out and so on without too much drama. Yes some of them went down to the wire late but that's the reality of how most of these guys negotiate not Dodoro being unreasonable. 

Asking for Heeney or Blakey is all for the media to focus on whilst he does his job, which should be chasing Florent or Parker if he can and otherwise either getting a huge draft haul or keeping Daniher. If acting like an idiot is whats required to stall time to either get a great deal or keep Daniher then I'd be all for it if I were a fan.

Of course there's valid questions about just how well he does do his job in terms of building the list but I think they are due to Essendon being unable to have a stable coach and list build since the Sheedy years and not because he's unreasonable at the trade table.

They don't need Florent with Shiel, Saad, McKenna, Merrett, Parish, Fantasia and Heppell they have plenty of outside run they desperately need inside bulls. Their posturing has seen them miss out on Powell-Pepper and possibly a pick through Fantasia. They should get the Saints, Port and Carlton involved with the Papley, Jones, Howard and Danniher trades and try and end up with a Ross, Dunstan, Powell-Pepper and a decent pick.

At the end of the day their window is going to close ( if it's even open)pretty quick with their aging key position players

We are now light on for Key Backs, Key forwards and Small forwards. 

Petty is available to help out either key back or key forward.

I think we will take a small forward or two in the draft.

Therefore, if we can trade in another key forward and Yoko has suggested we are currently looking at one, then our problems will be greatly reduced.

List balance is very difficult, as getting the categories accurate, is a near impossibility, with the unknown factors like injuries/retirements etc.

For example, you have a couple of good ruckmen and then they both get injured. You can't just have stacks of ruckmen on your list, to cover for that,  without impacting other areas. It is an extremely difficult task to have a perfectly balanced list, as unforeseen events can throw your perfection out the window.

Is keeping Daniher really a realistic option for Essendon once he tells the club he’s gone though? If he really doesn’t want to stay, if they keep him captive I really doubt that’s going to lead to the player fully committing to the cause, which is essential in such a high performance job. They’ll have a deadweight on their list until his contract runs out, and then he’ll just walk. 

There’s also no way Sydney will cough up a player of any value that they don’t want to lose unless another constraint dictates the need to. They know Essendon are full of crap. Daniher will get to Sydney, there won’t be any other players involved, and Dodoro will be shown to be all bluster. Again.

Is it possible to steal John Noble from the Pies? He is uncontracted...

Re: Daniher - I think if Essendon don’t trade him, he’ll claim mental health issues and not play for them in 2020. Then his value drops and they’re forced to trade him next offseason. Similar to what happened with Mccarthey from GWS.

I expect this to become a regular thing in the coming years. Player nominates a club and if the trade request isn’t honored they claim mental health issues and don’t play for the club they’re contracted to.

Interesting that Lewis Taylor has not presented as an option. Due to some apparently connected cats on Demonland we were keen on him when he was originally drafted. He’s stuck behind a plethora of smart forwards at Brisbane And appears to be on the trade table.

Joe Daniher has been restricted to just 11 games out of a possible 45 in the past two seasons due to osteitis pubis, a groin complaint. Some of you might remember his brother Darcy Daniher who also played with the Bombers. According to his on line biography, Darcy retired from professional football in August 2011, at the age of 21 due to “ongoing groin problems” after playing his last game before he turned 20!

If we didn’t get Langdon maybe, but we did. I wouldn’t recruit Taylor as a forward.

Yeah he is a good user of the footy, and usually makes good decisions with ball in hand. Also dangerous around goals. We could most certainly use him. Would be a good pick up. Adding Taylor and Langdon to our sides does cover some deficiencies.

It's a tricky situation for all involved but Dodoro's outlandish public demands (or reports of them) and reputation usually hide calm and reasonable decisions. Peter Bell may have surpassed him when it comes to making big statements and having them backfire.

If the pies salary cap is so tight we should make a play for Tom Langdon at 25 he can play on a key or small forward and could want to line up next to his brother.
