Gee wiz he's a good player, any chance he heads back to Perth though? or are we thinking the Blues have got themselves together enough that he'll stick around?

Nah he'll stay at Carlton for life, country boy who didn't spend much time in Perth and from what I've heard, absolutely loves living in Melbourne but why wouldn't you. Great City especially on his wage

My favourite non-MFC player. Absolute gun. Wish we could get him one day. The opposition would never win a stoppage with Oliver and Cripps in the same team.

The first week of trade window is effectively over.  There have been 6 player movements:

FA: Ellis, Tomlinson, Ellis-Yeoman, Birchall,

Trades: Frost, Langdon.

Our club enhances its reputation to gets deals done!

As an aside, only 2 trades for a week shows they should shorten the trade period.

Erm ... you might have missed the trade involving Tim Kelly?

A lot of clubs are trying to move up the draft order, including proposing using future picks. Melbourne and Carlton were im told close on a deal that fell over today. Indicative that talent good at top of draft, then falls off, possibly around 7 or 8

I’d think it’s more like Sydney saying to Carlton:

”Melb have put pick 3 on the table. We want Daniher and pick 3 will go part way to satisfying Essendon. If you want Papley, get us pick 3.”

Ins. Langdon Tomlinson

out.  Frost traded, Lewis TSmith Maynard retired , Garlett Keilty delisted. Walker cat B

Stretch and JKH both out of contract.  See if any interest or may retain/delist.  Stretch was noted as having interest from Suns

4 spots available.  Likely we will add one DFA or a late trade.  Three draft picks 3,26,50.

Being the weekend, can trades still get done today and tomorrow??

Posters are assuming that this comment refers to the two clubs negotiating over Melbourne’s draft pick #3. That may or may not be the case - they could have been negotiating around a possible swap of picks later in the draft which might have fallen over once the Frost/Langdon trades were finalised.

I’m still convinced that at some point, the Demons and GWS will sit down and discuss a mutually beneficial trade for our pick 3.

Not sure but from memory I seem to recall the Mitch Clark deal being done on a  Saturday

Good call. Pick 22 seemed about spot on for Jack Martin, we might've been working with Carlton on a deal to get them that pick.

I think clubs can agree to trades, but aren't 'official' until processed through the AFL.

FMD,  Essendon want Heaney or Blakey as part of the Daniher trade. For a guy whos spent most of the past 2 years injured with chronic conditions. Dodobird is an [censored] hole. Swans should give him the bird and let the Bombers deal with Joe's disgruntled, huge salary.

And, Ess will be bloody minded, match or pretend to match Sydney's bid ala the Crows with Danger and force a trade.

Sydney are honest brokers but not fools.  Dodoro will end up with egg on his face if this ends up at the AFL for arbitration as his deals are prone to do.

Quite a lot of bloody mindedness/posturing this year. Freo (Hill), Crows (Keath), Ess (Daniher), Saints (Bruce and Stevens), asking overs and the buying team walks away or stands their ground.

Interesting 3 days ahead.  The deals will probably get done but some of the downstream deals may not get through before the deadline.  Thankfully, pick trades can continue till the end of the Draft so deals being held up shouldn't hurt us with splitting pick 3, if no player is involved.

At least we get our deals done early.

Someone was trying to tell me a few weeks back that the Bombers being tough to deal with was a 'myth'.

As long as Dodoro is there they will always be an absolute pain during trade week.

Who was it a couple of years ago that wasted a big chunk of their trade period sitting in arbitration because they couldn’t agree on a deal? From memory it was Essendon and St Kilda over Jake Carlisle.

We can’t underestimate the importance of getting your deals sorted early so you can move on to your next item. Mahons must have been stoked when he learned the Frost deal would be done with Hawthorn. Two clubs with a no BS approach to trading; no coincidence it was one of the first trades done. It’s also no coincidence that we’re always one of the most active clubs at trade time.

Despite the way 2019 transpired, at this time of year, I always feel like we’re in very good hands.

iirc Ess also ended up in arbitration for Ryder to Port.  They are habitual offenders.

Say what you want about season 2019 but at this time of year, I always feel like we’re in very good hands.

Correct.
It’s great to get players to say they want to come to your club,  but if your club cant get [censored] done eventually players won’t come asking.
Lever, May, Tomlinson, Langdon... we’ve gotten some big trade done quickly and easily the last few years and also did the right thing by player who wanted out.
No point being a stubborn [censored].

Better one bird in the hand and all that.

It might have been that I was thinking of.

It’s funny watching them operate though. They seem to be the only ones who actually try to operate in the way mug footy fans think it should work.

Essendon's biggest problem is they think their [censored] does not stink. It affects their approach to everything.

It’s very nice that Dododo is regarded as a tough negotiator but isn’t all of his bravado masking the fact that his club doesn’t seen to be doing much recruiting of its own? Virtually every player they’ve been associated with has nominated Carlton, St Kilda or someone else and the only decent players named in connection with them are the Swans’ Heeney and Blakey suggested by the Bombers as a trade for Daniher. But it was just a suggestion - they were too lazy to even approach them.

Fair dinkum.

Don't people get sick of bagging Oscar?  It's such a bore. Last time I looked he played for us and hence we should support him.

I don't get it. Leaving aside any assessment of OMac's ability (though it is worth noting the club chose to give him anorher contract and Mahoney was happy to trade everyone's new pin up frost, in part because in his words we had coverage down back, including omac) he plays for the dees. Call me crazy supporters should suppor. And if they can't should at the least not do the opposite.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
