Gold Coast should not be gifted Pick 2. They were 3-1 after the first month of the season, and that loss was by a point.

So if Hawks get Brad Hill back (80% likely) and Langdon stays at Freo (50/50) .... what then ???

I am happy to go the draft with picks 2 & 20 and let JT weave his magic.

I know it will annoy the hell out of a few people who will immediately have (valid) trauma flashbacks to missing out on Josh Kelly, but I am convinced that at least as far as late in the first round there are multiple players which would suit us quite well and have really good careers. So I'd be very interested in seeing 2 and 20 turn into, say, 7 and 12.

I'm less and less keen on trading for 'pretty good' players on inflated salaries. At some point we're going to need to hit free agents hard if we're going to sustain a position as a contender, and I've dropped away from the idea that the likes of Hill or Langdon would make a difference to us becoming contenders. Cyril Rioli they are not.

I don't agree with them getting pick 2 but I don't know that this is a decent argument against it.

Those three wins were vs the Dogs, Carlton and Fremantle, and the loss was to St Kilda. Not exactly a taxing month. Since then they've only gotten within 4 goals of their opponent three times in 15 games (vs us, St Kilda and Essendon).

I think the GC priority pick thing is happening. the last significant hurdle is the clubs where there will no doubt be strong opposition but when guys like Barrett and caro start saying it, the AFL is trying to slowly get the public to accept the fact this is happening.

They always start well. Over the last 4 years more than half their wins have come in the first 5 rounds. After that they fall on a hole.

From the start of 2016:

GC Record first 5 rounds: 11-9

GC Record round 6 onwards: 8-57

The reason they keep losing - particularly after the first month of the season - is because they are so young, not because they lack talent. They have a pick 3 from last year who hasn't even got on the park. Their list is far more talented than Melbourne and Carlton at the same stage. That's the argument against a priority pick. If the AFL wants to help them improve quickly then help them sign some free agents or mature players.

Def Wags, Keilty,Maynard,Garlett& JKH. Like to keep for 1 year 2 c if they can make it (Stretch) and insurance (T Smith). Add Lewis so that makes 6.

Agree 6 off the list with Lewis Keilty Jwags Jkh Garlett Maynard.  Think Spargo and Omcd should also go but that’s not the nice way that the mfc goes.

What insurance does Tim Smith provide? He's injured for about 16 weeks every year.

Stretch will not make it

Free up a spot please Keep Lewis one more year Find a KPF who can mark and contest.

Trade Viney. Ffs. The world has gone mad.

!00% agree.

Do we target Ben King as a long term quality KPF? Give up pick 2 and he’s ours (maybe get a later pick back). He’s looked the part in his first year and can play both ends.

We’d need to find a first round pick elsewhere to take to draft though if we traded pick 2 for him.

That's one way to ensure gold coast get a priority pick! No way would they consider releasing him this year unless it's for massive overs, pick 2 would only be the start of the conversation

If the rumours are true and he wants to return to Victoria ASAP, then they'll lose him next year anyway and have less leverage for a trade as he'll be out of contract. They may bite the bullet if they get a decent offer this year. Drafted at pick 6, trade him for pick 2 a year later. As opposed to draft him at pick 6 and lose him for 10+ next year after investing another year in his development.

If the rumours are true, they'd be in their best interests to cash in ASAP. We could be the beneficiary there!

Not necessarily, if he keeps improving like he has this far in his career, his value will only increase. There will always be leverage for top KPP prospect, returning to a state with 10 teams.

From all reports, the top 7 in last years draft would all be in the conversation for this years pick 1.

It's definitely worth a try but as another poster said, Pick 2 would be a starting point and we wouldn't be getting anything coming back.

Think most of the rumours are coming from Saints fans who think he'll go to play with his brother. He'll still get a top 5 pick plus more next year if he continues on like he is. The AFL will be ensuring the gold coast get way overs if any of their young guns leave, it's in their interest too. There's no way he'll be traded this year

Well Josh Wagner is a Queensland boy and probably so is his brother. With pick 2 you would get something back and on that basis you have your missing extra key forward and extra chop out ruckman in another year or two.

We are deep into our 5 year plan to win a premiership and I think we should go after Shaun Higgins... I don’t care if we pay overs. He is still playing great football and is a weapon! Let’s offer him something he can’t and North can’t refuse.

Is Brad Hill and Ed Langdon possible if we trade Pick 2 to Freo? If so do it...

Could Pick 2 land us Jack Martin and Peter Wright? Is Ben King possible? Let’s throw the Kitchen Sink!

We need to be the most proactive club in Trade period. Ruthless Dees!

This is 2007 all over again and we are in for an almighty rebuild.

We will see a huge turnover of players over the next two years, get ready to no see finals action for another four or five years.

I don't think so, we're not far away from a rebuild. I'd expect a decent clear out this year. Our list clearly doesn't have the quality we thought.

We lack quality all over the ground and really need to get this draft right.

Anyways, I'd be open to trading our 1st pick for 2 X 1st round picks i.e. Port 2018 picked up Rozee Butters and Durrsma with 5, 12 and 18. We could try for something like Ash, Stephens and a slider.

Lots of outs are easy to pick.

Jkh. Maynard. Keilty. Jwags. Garlett. Omcd  Spargo   Tim Smith. Chandler (r)

Chat about the future  Lewis

Medical. Vandenburg jsmith

(Possible trades. Stretch. Jsmith ... if they want out).

With some tough decisions, at least 10 new faces ahead.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
