On the bright side, I tipped Richmond by 43...

Seriously though, what a gutting year. Hard to imagine we would go backwards at this rate. We’ve always been disappointing at dealing with expectation in games... I just didn’t realise it applied to whole seasons.

The downturn is really hard to make sense of.

Did we overachieve last year? Well, that's bollocks, you can only win against who you play against.

So what has changed (aside from personnel) for things to be so vastly different in 7 games (inc prelim '18)?

And more importantly why has it changed, and what needs to be addressed.

I'm really hoping Goodwin (or the rest of Demonland) can give me some clarity and answers on this.

This is the only viable explanation for the complete lack of run, fight and execution of basic skills. We're the worst team in the league. I am dreading playing the roos.

I disagree there was a lack of effort

I think the lack of run and speed is due to carrying too man slow one paced players

Viney, Brayshaw Harmes are too slow and don't impact the game. Oliver isn't slow but isn't impacting games

Melksham was out best mid tonight and he was playing at HFF

Our problems is a complete lack of pace, and super super bad skills from the whole group... So so bad

Seeing that everyone wants somebody sacked, how about the idiots who run the railways in this State?

We’ve been waiting 15 minutes for a train on the Frankston line and it’s still 3 minutes away.

I will keep defending the Weid as I always say young key forwards need a lot of time and patience however I feel we have massively over rated the impact that we expected him to have this year based on about 5 quarters of finals footy.

I really worry that trading Hogan is going to turn out as a disastrous move.

I was attending a birthday dinner tonight, thank [censored]. Got home and watched first 10 mins of last quarter. Unable to watch, I then immediately flicked over to a recording of Open Mike featuring Ray ‘Razor’ Chamberlain FFS.

Dark times indeed.

So are we a club in crisis now?  I almost missed this old feeling.

Demonland just wouldn't be the same - Poor ol @picket fence wouldn't know what to do..

By the way Picket im joining on your bandwagon.... This is rubbish

So we tried playing an open game and couldn't defend - No we defend and can't score... Good times

I want a royal commission into our club. Wtf has happened, I mean seriously?!!!

Players that aren't up to it: Jones, Lewis, Petracca, ANB, Spargo, T Mac, O Mac, weid, Brayshaw (possibly the worst decision maker on our list), Hunt, Stretch, Fritsch.

Play the kids, let's go for pick one.

Mentioned it before but Weed needs to go back to the seconds.

He just can’t seem to do anything atm and we are carrying him which we can’t afford.

Anyone who has watched Melbourne consistently could see what was going to happen after quarter time. Where was our plan B? Why did we not back ourselves to win at the stoppage and as a result let them have players behind the ball? It’s almost as though we were playing for an honourable loss, knowing we would get smashed on the spread (which we did in the last quarter anyway). It was like a performance in the early days of Roos - defensively okay but you knew the outcome before the ball was bounced.

There are some truths to be told about the preseason and exactly what shape the players came back in.

This team has never been able to handle any kind of pressure in a game. We hung in there despite showing no composure and eventually they broke it open. You could see it coming the whole time.

Brayshaw should be dropped for that effort on Riewoldt, needs to be made an example of.

Weideman was horrific, missed the ball trying to handball it and followed it up with a smothered kick. Finally took a good mark then can't hit a 15 meter kick.

Fritsch has regressed badly, a liability even within this pathetic team.

Hibberd can't hit a target to save himself.

There is no passion in the team, Viney gets cleaned up by a 1st year player with a cheap hit of the line, then Petracca has a chance to make him earn it and puts no body on him a minute later.

Some players need to take payouts or get out, we are the worst team in the comp.

It’s easy to say the massively interrupted preseason the team had is an excuse, but could it actually be a key reason. Our players looked cooked in the 2Q and their skills completely fell away.. which is entirely consistent with fatigue.

They are running hard one way, but are buggering themselves by having to turn around.

The butchering of the ball going forward can explain a lot of what is happening statistically

The club sent an email promising a better effort. Well stuff them for more empty words. It’s about time we heard from Bartlett promising some action. No matter what Goodwin says there systemic problems behind the scenes.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
