Any chance this club will stand up for itself for once and make sure we get this kid no matter what [censored] rule they recently rushed through?   The Bulldogs got Ugle Hagan at pick 1 for [censored] sake.  Are we just going to continue to get shafted and sit there like a good little club and take it?

I know this used to be the case but in the past 5 years at least we have been strong and held our ground on decisions imo.  have you examples recently where we haven't stood up for ourselves?

I reckon we need to look at more mids in the draft. Outside mids firstly, then wingers and balanced mids.  If we have 3-4 injuries to our midfield, who from casey on the weekend comes in?  I personally don't see Bowey or Laurie ending up in the midfield but I could be wrong. I'd expect Bowey HB and Laurie fwd. Sparrow and Jordon are good depth for inside mid

Also, unless we want Jackson playing 1st ruck if Gawn goes down, I reckon we draft a developing 1st ruck to learn the ropes from Gawny. you usually need to go through a couple of these guys to be successful

1) A Robbie Gray type medium forward (easier said than done obviously) that is damaging up forward but equally so with midfield stints

2) Think we still lack one more genuine outside mid in the Whitfield mould, again not many of that type around but that's the template

We do have a very balanced list so the old best available could be the go, however.

Midfield run. Still don’t have a real second wing and we need to continue to bring in mid depth in behind our mid 22-25 yo midfield jets.

Developing tall forward.

Mid size half forwards.

We have a shortage of players with tatts, Jones was the only one against the Hawks last week and he's getting on. Another mullet type would add some much needed depth also

Watching the Casey game, we need more midfielders. At centre bounces, we barely had any AFL listed players in there. It was pretty much VDB with cameos from Nev (and Bedford?). I know we've loaded our side with midfield run, but we now lack depth. A developing mid please.

Some talk in the little paper that Ed Richards from the dogs could be looking for fresh opportunities

Would be a nice addition for outside run as a defender / offensive wing option

We have heaps of replacements for Hibberd and Jetta, the small back positions would be the last position id be worried about.

like who? I can't think of 1 player.  Rivers is a rebounding def, Bowey is too. We have 1 lockdown defender and that's Lockhart and he is fringe.

We we desperate for him on draft night but Port got in first, so we picked Rivers with our 3rd pick in 2019.

Rivers will be good, but geez he would've been sensational for us.

We were. But so were others. Geelong were set to take him at pick 19 but Port pipped them with pick 18.

Our next pick was 32 (Rivers). We were way off.

So we've traded our first rounder this year right so our first pick at this stage is a 2nd rounder right? it's going to take a bit of creativity to get into the first 20 picks in this years draft I think.

Correct. Our first pick is in the second round and is linked to Brisbane. We traded our own away.

Harmes should be back soon. Maybe this is where Brayshaw could step up further? Now he is on the outside he does seem a bit like a mummys boy. Some tatts could really improve his image. Nothing soft either... it would need to be an oldschool tattoo. Really think it should be a demon to show how committed he is to the team. Combine it with some 90s style tribal stuff.

Harmes is injured, Sparrow was the sub and Laurie is injured too. Add Vanders and the 6 on ballers in the team - Gus, Melk, JJ, Viney, Tracc, Oliver and I think we’ve got the right number of centre square options. Versatility is the key for any additions

THE BEST 23

B: HIBBERD, MAY, LEVER

HB: SALEM, TOMLINSON, HUNT

C: LANGDON, PETRACCA, BRAYSHAW

HF: PICKETT, MCDONALD, MELKSHAM

F: FRITSCH, B.BROWN, WEIDEMAN

FOLL: GAWN, OLIVER, VINEY

IC: RIVERS, SPARGO, NEAL-BULLEN, JACKSON

SUB: JORDON

RESERVES

B: DRAFT PICK, J.SMITH, D.SMITH

HB: BOWEY, PETTY, DRAFT PICK

C: DRAFT PICK, DRAFT PICK, ROSMAN

HF: LAURIE, DRAFT PICK, CHANDLER

F: BEDFORD, DAW, DRAFT PICK

FOLL: DRAFT PICK, HARMES, SPARROW

IC: MID SEASON PICK, MID SEASON PICK, HORE, NEXT YEAR'S MID SEASON PICK

Jones, vandenBerg, Neitschke, Baker, M.Brown, Jetta, Lockhart, Bradtke all delisted.

We need 2 back flankers, a winger, a centreman, a centre half forward, a small forward and a ruckman.

I dont think Tomlinson is an ideal CHB and Petty so far isnt a compelling replacement.

When we have more 2m tall fwds to cover we will need more tall defensive options.

This is the Mac Andrew article.

Trust that the year we finally have a gun NGA the rules doesn't work I out favour..

Can someone pm me the article please.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/nab-league-rankings-demons-academy-member-mac-andrew-among-top-victorian-draft-performers/news-story/4e8960e9ebcedebcd38ae31cca0f5c40%3famp

He had a really good game which is when the articles were written and then has been good but not setting the world on fire. Interesting to see what happens with the championships, because he'd be a few down the line for the ruck spot for Vic Metro, but those in front of him are 19 and should be taken mid year.

I see Lockhart taking over the lockdown small defender role from Nev and Hibberd. He looked really composed last year.

if he leaves its for the pies imo

i want a couple talls to develop, a key defender to sit 4th in line where joel smith is now coz he is probably out the door and a forward to move past tmac, mbrown and daw. this is where mac andrews would be so ideal.

then its the wing spot that we've been struggling with followed by a HB flanker who can intercept given hore's injury history and nev/hibbos age

As Jim Cleary used to say All that is need is a couple of big chaps who can run, jump, take a nice mark and kick a big goal.  (What team doesnt need that)

A replacement for Gawn; onballers, if they dont work out run them from the flanks and chf, if no good then play at chb.

Simples.

Is there anything stopping us from trading next years 1st round pick for someone 1st round pick this year, i.e. someone like GWS who traditionally end up with 3 or so picks in the first round.

If he sets himself, the classic but still classy Love Hate knuckle tattoos aren't out of his reach and could be the difference in inking himself a new deal

No issue with trading our future 1st as far as I'm aware

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
