That's a stronger team than I expected. Looks like the older guys rested: Lewis, Gawn, Vanders, Jetta, Hibberd

I took the liberty to change the positions around for the starting 18, left the bench as named.

FB: J Wagner  Frost   Hunt
HB: Hore  Oscar  Petty
C: Fritsch  Harmes  JKH
HF: ANB   T Mc  J Smith
FF: Spargo Weid  Garlett
Foll: Preuss  Brayshaw  Oliver

Int: Salem Petracca Stretch Maynard Sparrow Jordan C Wagner Keilty

The backline without May, Hibberd, Jetta and Lewis seems pretty weak, but there's enough in the midfield and forward line to put in a decent contest.

Richmond

B: Alex Rance, David Astbury, Dylan Grimes

HB: Nick Vlastuin, Bachar Houli, Jayden Short

C: Dion Prestia, Shane Edwards, Trent Cotchin

HF: Daniel Rioli, Riley Collier-Dawkins, Jack Higgins

F: Jack Riewoldt, Dustin Martin, Daniel Butler

R: Toby Nankervis, Kane Lambert, Ivan Soldo

IC (from): Oleg Markov, Nathan Broad, Jack Ross, Liam Baker, Jack Graham, Brandon Ellis, Maverick Weller, Noah Balta, Callum Moore, Connor Menadue, Fraser Turner, Callum Coleman-Jones

I noticed that - I took it straight from the article.  It looks like they did it for the first few and then gave up and just stuck any old names in there.

In 100 year from now when the majority of games are played in 38 degree temperature, they'll look back at this thread and laugh their heads off.

But they will be playing JLT’s on Heard Island in summer by then.

brilliant observation.

The AFL are probably beholden to their broadcast partners and therefore this is not an option for them.

If the AFL is beholden to the broadcasters, they're not partners. As I've said before, "broadcast partner" is a horrible expression. It is blatantly a false statement. "Broadcast overlord" is much more realistic.

What are you talking about only Lewis has been rested?

Gawn, Jetta, Vanders and Hibberd are listed as emergencies on the AFL website teams

Still looks like a good side even with the 4 outs. J.Wagner must lift last chance to impress the selectors. I think we will by 12 points even though the tigs have a strong list.

The “outs” and how they appear to be tracking:-

1. Stephen May (hamstring) — due to return to full training shortly.
2. Nathan Jones (hamstring /ba ck tightness) — should be fit to start the season.
6. Jordan Lewis — rested?
7. Jack Viney (ankle surgery) — should be fit to start the season.
8. Jake Lever (ACL surgery) — hopefully will be back training with the main group in about a month.
12. Toby Bedford — not selected.
16.  Kade Kolodjashnij (adductor) — available to play Round 1 but more likely in the VFL.
18. Jake Melksham hamstring) — due to return to full training shortly.
19. Mitch Hannan (knee) — return in the middle of the first half of the season.
27. Aaron Nietschke (ACL surgery) — season
35. Oskar Baker — not selected.
37. Kade Chandler — not selected.
38. Tim Smith — left training early on Thursday.
43. Guy Walker (shoulder surgery) — return date not available.
46. Austin Bradtke — not selected.

39. Neville Jetta - emergency - rested

They better have stringent drug testing then.

I'm not convinced the so called "emergencies" aren't playing! Waiting for confirmation from MFC of final selection.

65 pints! That's heroic! I usually pass out after 15.

The biggest challenge will not be driving up the highway or standing in the heat, but it will be avoiding the Richmond fans who are up and about again. Just say over and over again to yourself ""this is just a practice game, this is just a practice game, and it does not count.."

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
