I'm with you DD.  While a lot on here used to get stuck in to Burgo's efforts, I enjoyed his Maroochydore diary entries.  Gave you a bit of a personal background in to some players/staff through music/movie tastes, etc.  None of it would win a Walkley, but for light reading about the club I love it was fine.

Definitely think it has dropped off this year.

I agree Chazz, this year has been a disappointment for me. Greatful for the guys on here getting to training, but to not have a training report or interview from Saturday on the MFC website is really [censored] poor. Not just Maroochydore, but pre season in general.

Going to really feel like many will start to appreciate the work Matt Burgan did around the joint. Always loved Burgos work.

Agreed.

I can only assume the new MFC's media bloke was/is sick in his hotel room throughout the entire camp. They've had a whopping one player interview (Jetta) and that was back on day 1.

Burgan was a good contributor to the MFC website and probably did his best work during the camps. He certainly kept the fans well truly updated with what was happening up on the Sunshine Coast.

Agree, his diaries on camp were also a delight to read.

Maybe its just me but I feel people have short memories on the quality of prior efforts by Burgs. Most of the diaries were filled with garbage over the music on the bus and who chose it and who cooked the best steak the night before for their room mates. There was little of any substance. Aside from no update from Saturday I think our social media and web updates have been much improved this off season in consistency, immediacy and quality. Curious to see how they are during the actual season.

We get 3 or 4 pix from a session and the odd minute or so of video...

Thank goodness for the likes of 'Six6Six'...

The hypocrisy kills me, the criticism of Burgo was particlarly nasty on here

Not sure what people want, the players train, it hardly differs, posters carp that every team is flying in pre season,  is that we need?

Even the training reports on here can start to sound the same

Here are a few tidbits

Chris Salem supports Arsenal

Max Gawn supports Sunderland and the Black Caps

Oscar McDonald prefers the traditional board games to electronic but has no taste in beer

Nev Jetta is a proun Noongar Man

Both Christian Petracca and Jack Viney have a shoe fetish

We get it, you speak to the players.

Nah Ethan, just wonder how some on here can criticise Burgo and then say they miss him, laughable chap

I don't know how many pictures of Weid taking a mark in pre season people need, I've just counted the ones I took 17, but only felt the need to post 3

The team is ticking along nicely, the administration is ticking along nicely, is it MFCSS kicking on and posters and readers need something, bad/poor/disastrous to hang their hat on

What’s worse, the items you’ve mentioned or you getting on your soap box about it at every opportunity?

You know the answer Mr training report policeman.

Nah mate, we’re all just hungry AF!!! Can’t wait for the season, just want a little more (no training secrets revealed for exploitation) engagement coz we really feel strong about 2019 and where we’re heading. We want to celebrate pre, during and post season!!!

I agree the coverage of The Camp in 2019 especially Saturdays wonderful open Day has been somewhat underwhelming.

What has happened to Burgo? No longer with us ? Did I mess an email?

A fantastic turnout of Dees Qld fans and really those who went would not be  disappointed. Players were great and couldn't do enough to sign be photographed and talk to all ages and embrace this opportunity to meet new  fans no doubt to this opportunity.

Just a few photos and some summary would be great to let our fans elsewhere in Aust and beyond to show how hard they are training to get 2019 to a new level and be the team we believe and want to be the best they can be.

Otherwise all going well and rehab group will feature in the JLT. Trust our medicos and decision makers. We have learnt the hard way with Vines in 2017!!

My summary of Sat Open day in Maroochydore is somehow in the section headed "How our recruits are shaping up" No doubt due to my lack of technology expertise.

Go Dees !!

Yep, Saty, I get your loyalty to the club but your lack of balance in this matter undermines your stance.  Last year the camp coverage was first class, this year it is an afterthought.  No updates since Saturday? really?.  It has been substandard compared to what we have become used to. That is a fact.

Agree, the team & admin are ticking along nicely & that's of primary importance.

It's just that the online fan engagement isn't, it's an area where we are sadly lacking.

Without Demonland & posters like yourself we would have very little information about training & the players.

Compared to other clubs that i have seen over the summer, our media team really is 2nd rate.

The club's social media presence and output during the 2018 finals was first class. They certainly have dropped the ball in Maroochydore. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come in 2019 under a new regime.

From memory, the content from Maroochydore was excellent in the summer of 2017. Burgs had daily diary entries for the whole week. Last year it started ok, but the content became less and less as the week passed, very similar to this year.

I thought early last week we had a bit to feast on from the MFC site, not much since though.

Cant wait for R1 so we can get rid of this preseason training report argumentative bull [censored].

I'm not at all sure why people didn't like Burgo. he was great! he was the first person to give decent pre-season diaries and the first person to interview our recruiting manager every year which was great because he is one of the most important people at our club. He interviewed the coaches and players before and after the game which wasn't done before (we had to wait for official afl releases). And he also was the first person to interview misson about our rehab group each year which I hadn't seen before. I always really appreciated the work he did.

Yeah I miss Burgo’s camp diaries, they were a highlight off the offseason.

Interestingly Pert was behind the Pies ramping up their media department. I thought he’d be quick to do the same here, but it might show how the focus is still on investing cash elsewhere.

Maybe we need to consult with Tommy Bugg on how to up our influence!

How much media tripe do people want from the club or from the footy media?

We live in a world saturated with information much of it of little value.

Sure I want to hear important news but much of the stuff people seem to want to hear or read is not important.

The season is still weeks away. Do you want to read stuff all the time?

The more media stuff is demanded and supplied, the more trivial and unimportant it becomes.  The amount of stories and news is directly proportional to its quality or standard.

One of the problems today is that sport has become stale, it has lost its freshness.

Matches of one sort or another are  being played all year and there is the never ending  media commentary.  Cricket, Tennis, Footy etc. The administrators, advertisers, media outlets etc want saturation of their sport or product. As a result, the anticipation and excitement of waiting for the the season to begin has been mitigated by the constant exposure of the sport.

Sure I want to hear important news but why do we demand to hear stuff all the time. New information, insightful reports are good, but most of what we hear or read is of little value. Nothing changes.

So the troopers who sent training reports....fantastic. I much prefer reading independent reports from our loyal posters than hearing some media spin from our footy club.

Not sure where you got that idea from.

i understand the focus of pumping resources into the the football department as a priority. Which was PJ's approach. But really now that we have more resources they need to invest in growing our membership.

The way to grow our membership is to get kids and young people supporting our club.

In this day and age the way to connect and engage with kids and young people is through quality online content and social media.

Neither of my kids watch any free to air TV. At all. It is all youtube and Instagram and in my son's case also NBA.com. The only time my son mentions anything about the dees is when something pops up in his Instagram feed.

Burgs was fine but he wasn't the issue. The turn of the century approach to media and content is the issue. Get with the program dees.

Invest.

Develop some quality content t (like down the ground video, analysis etc) and not just 90 seconds rubbish clips, longer content (eg 15 mins). Fans will consume it and cast to their TVs or watch on their devices. I would.

Sort out the social media aspect.

Sort out a proper Youtube presence (the Dees MFC site is embarrassing).

Simple really. But requires an investment

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
