I wish Tom a full recovery, but i shall enjoy watching Whorethorn a man down all year.

That jumper has inflicted so much arrogant pain on me over many years....

I will enjoy watching the Hawks struggle with or without Mitchell.

Like inherited wealth they have had a born to rule attitude for such a long time. Albeit from premierships and continued success over 50 years. The continued success that we seek at Melbourne.  And if that comes, the MFC will become a hated club like the Hawks.

However, our demolition of them in the finals was something to rejoice and went a long way to expunging the dark memories of the past.

It is always wonderful to see Jeff Kennett's face after a loss, like that of Eddies.

Gracious in victory but not defeat.  Not a way to measure the mark of a man.

Yes it is a terrible injury for the poor bloke and i agree with the above sentiments that it couldnt happen to a nicer club....

As a side note, it does however increase Clarry, Gus and Maxys chances of taking Charlie home. All 3 in the top 11 now...

Does a year seem a long time for a broken leg? I thought they generally came on quicker than that.

My thinking too.

I would've though 16-20 weeks would be more realistic, and he'd be back before the finals. Perhaps it's as a severe broken leg as you'd get in an athlete.

Did we underestimate the Hawks last September,  'od' ?

I'm talking H&A games in 2019...   Take em lightly and they will can us.

Then that hurts our ladder position at end of season.

from the literature it seems to be a recovery period of 4-6 months as you say but that I think is the time to get to reasonable fitness. In the case of an athlete one would need to add in the strength training etc that cannot commence until it is healed.

Eight months would put it mid finals so he could be a possibility as you suggest. Would they risk it??

Another stat that I saw was that while 91.5% of athletes recover to the extent that they can participate in sport again only 71.5% get back to the level they were.it was a study of around 1500 athletes IIRC.

A year out hey?

Christ I hate Hawthorn.

I don't I want us to be hated for the same reasons. Decades long success and numerous premierships.

I just hope that Hawthorn can remain compeditive enough to finish somewhere in the 10th to 13th ladder position.  Not compeditive enough to be a realistic chance of making finals, but high enough to cut them out of getting into the cream of the draft.

... a couple of 70 to 100+ beltings along the way wouldn't go a stray though and would absolutely love the MFC to hand them one of those beltings.

A lot of muscle wastage will happen whilst the bones heal up.

Remember Trengove’s leg after he was out of hospital.

It will take a long time to build leg fitness up again to AFL Midfield standard.

What a loss for the hawks. Hopefully back to his best in 2020. Anyone who is happy about this has issues. I want to beat the best at their best and wish injury on no one.

Fell sorry for tom but not for the hawks, happy that it will hurt them bad, but not happy about the poor man getting hurt. They are a old team they put everything into the Mitchell and O'Meara trades. Every old power get desperate, them and Geelong are holding on for dear life

Interestingly, the Hawks - who I hate, have done since the Scott/Mathews reign of terror - have proved you don't need high draft picks to become a great side. They just very cannily seduce the right kind of fellas to come on down and maybe win a flag or two.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
