This might of been brought up in another thread,

Was thinking the other day, one way teams have been trying to stop max is smash into him early. You see them run into Max hard for the first 1-2 center ball ups of the match (and after half time). Do you think it is worth sending big Pruess into the center for the first bounce of the quarter and then let him drift forward and max to follow the ball? or let him take the first 5 min and let Maxy run out the quarter?

Max will always be the number 1 but protecting him against a Nankervis who just wants to put some "hurt" onto Max might be a big upside of the man monster Pruess in the side.

sorry if this has been covered, just bored at work.

It will be interesting to see what happens. I imagine Gawn starts the qtr in the ruck so we can try and get a fast start and then Pruess comes on and does a majority of the rucking while Gawn goes to whatever end needs him.

I'm not sure if it matters if it is the first bounce or latter bounces in the first half (first quarter?) there is little doubt Presuss has been brought in to give Gawn some relief. I doubt he will play every game but will play - about 75% i reckon. And definitely against those sides with two rucks.

As you rightly say teams definitely physically tried to work Gawny over to limit his impact -  understandable given how crucial is to our chances of winning.

I thought the Hawks took it to another level in the semi. They were brutal. Smashed him at every opportunity. i was surprised he got up from one collision at the Punt road end when the hawks were pushing. Didn't help them much (though it wasn't his best game it has to be said) but it certainly helped the Eagles. At the ground you could see how stuffed gawny was from the first bounce. He was fully spent halfway through the first quarter.

Preuss might repay some of those hits with interest. He has rugby background i think so should be well used to using his strength and size to hit hard. I pity the fools.

So according to former team mate Nick Dal Santo a nickname for Preuss is 'Pokey'.

Apparently ANB knows the full story now after his chat with Dal Santo the other morning as it sounds like it was too salacious for the on air show.

Horses for courses. I think.

For those who want to smash in... If Preus'y likes to smash in as well... and for an ex rugby man, he may like that.   Then let him crash the crashees first.

Give him the first 10 mins crack of the game at the opposition... to soften up the bang crash opponents.

I'd like to see them both become interchangeable and equals, hopefully.

I like Milton.     That mild mannered mountain.

I think Milton would stir Preussy.

If Preuss becomes “interchangeable and equal” with Max we will indeed become the feared and the hunted.

I never want us to let go of the hunter imagery.

IMO,  We are at our best when we are aggressive and feel like hunting opposition...   And I see no need to change that, even if we become an elite team.

We still have to be the hunters of the ball... man with ball, and of the opponents.

Choir boys don't hunt, as apparently they are easy quarry.

We are not that any longer.

Interesting and very observable point of view. One would think that Preuss has a role to play in this, to elicit some return 'hurt' as a gesture of goodwill and sharing. He'd most probably donate some protection - he seems to have a generous nature and by the looks of him, has plenty to give!

And I see him doing just that when deep for de-Weide.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
