Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

This comparison seems dubious at best

Lockett vs Curnow
Games played - 281 vs 47
Total scoring shots - 1950 vs 93

The disparity in sample data is too big for this comparison. A better way to look at it is Pluggers stats after his first 3 seasons (175 goals @ 68% accuracy). Either way you look at it, you've basically just proven that the two players cannot be compared.

Pretty interesting that you are prepared to speak on behalf of every football department in the league and state that his accuracy has never been discussed.

All in all - thanks for the fake news

Anyone know Peter Hudson’s conversion rate.

One of his best games this season was against Port Melbourne when they threw him forward in the last quarter.

I still maintain Dec almost singlehandley won Casey that game. No one was hanging on to marks forward of centre but he was able to bring down 4 or 5 big grabs, set up a couple of goals and kicked one himself.

Got BOG that game too.

The performance must be remembered ... it was more than just a purple patch.

Good Lord.

Most of the best goal-kickers in history float between 65-70%.  I could have named another 12 quality key forwards that fell within that range.  Then you would have (needlessly) scrambled away dissecting another player's accuracy.

The point was that Curnow's goal-kicking accuracy at 63% is a non-issue and that it wouldn't deter any club in the competition for craving a player of his quality.

Is it summer already? There seems to be a considerable amount of hot air blowing to interrupt reading time.

Right. So instead of just saying that last sentence, you compared curnows average to pluggers average without drawing a comparison between the two and then spoke on behalf of 18 football departments with authority.

Good lord indeed.

I ALREADY had made that point with the poster in question, which you would have read.

If Riewoldt & Lynch both go down, Richmond have?

If Cox and ???? Go down Collingwood have???

if Darling & Kennedy go down Eagles have ????

Big KPF are hard to find and very few come up to speed within a few years of being drafted. Hogan was one of the few.

Demons have TMac and Weideman on the way. If either go down the Demons may look to Preuss to do a Cox like role, or turn to TSmith, Keilty, Petty or even OMac.

Not many if any teams have a good 3rd big key forward!

De Goey mate! Collingwood adding Beams in middle and having JDG up forward permanently will be a formidable opponent. Pretty pumped for QB Retribution just thinking about it.

De Goey played on flank but even if he plays full forward. If he and Cox go down, who is their third tall?

Who is Swans, second tall forward, if Buddy goes down what happens.

My point still stands not many teams have two key tall forwards, let alone three.

Cats - Hawkins then who?

Hawks - Roughead nearly finished, Gunston almost half forward.

GWS - Cameron & Patton

Sorry if any of this has been posted in this discussion, but I am being lazy (and probably sensible) and not reading all the previous posts.

I dont post often but think i am pretty accurate with my intel, and i have been told that Keilty will be playing forward this year.

Secondly, they were keen to rookie mclean, as they had thought about doing the previous season, but in the rookie draft, they thought that chandler was a better option, as they rated him highly. (i did question why he wasnt selected the day before if they rated him so highly!! didnt get much of an answer!) The same with last year, they had planned on drafting mclean, but petty was still available and that rated him higher.

I agree with the sentiments of your post and have stated the same, however, de Goey and Stephenson at times both played out of the goal square as pseudo full-forwards.

I think some people are surprised that de Goey is 191cm.

Under the pss rules Mclean is effectively a Free Agent so we can rookie him up until March 2019.  Or line him up as pss rookie for the 2018/2019 sign up.  (We don't have a rookie spot right now but a current rookie could be promoted to the seniors list where we do have a spot).

Can't help but think the last seniors spot has been left vacant for a reason, yet to unfold.

It seems that Keilty will be give first shot at the role and good on him.  He has worked hard and could easily see him being promoted to the seniors at some stage.

Our tall forward situation is fine.

Maxy will push forward more often next year and with trac, hannan and Melky we have a number of good mid sized marking options.

Even with preuss the ruck position worries me much, much more. But just as you cant carry 'spare' gun forwards on a list you cant take list spots for a rockman likely to spend rhe whole year in the maggos.

I'm not sure where I stand on the idea of a mid season draft but being able to bring in say a rockman I'd needed has some logic given the list restrictions.

Yes I thought there was still a spot. Rookie goes to main list such as Keilty and then a rookie is added. I still think McLean or young Riley Bowman would be handy additions for the future.

Gee whiz you sure do get defensive easily. The irony here is I recall you referring to be people as snowflakes before. Your first response to my reply was to tell me I am cognitively impaired as to not have a grasp of your brilliant references. Might be time to start being more aware of how condescending you are.

Anyways, listing the statistics of two players and then claiming you aren't comparing the two is idiotic, I'll leave it at that.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
