I would normally think childish, but after Caro's comments on Jim Stynes and the statue a couple of weeks back, good on the club for banning her, she should hang her ugly head in shame.

It was something along the lines of every time she walked past Jims statue she felt disgusted and/or embarrassed due to the tanking saga, or words to that effect.

Wow.Ā  If thats accurate I think we just found the reason why she was banned from the function.

Yep its accurate. She said she felt "uncomfortable" every time she walked past it...but went on to add that what Melbourne did to its players in those years was "Just as bad" asĀ Ā Essendon. I mean FFS. I cant remmember ever putting their lives at risk???!! AnywayĀ  It went largely unnoticed because it was on the Age Tuesday podcast after we smashed Geelong in the elimination final. But IF its around that comment then I agree she deserved it.Ā

Maybe Jims widow Sam is attending the breakfast as a guest of the club....

Self indulgent response by the club.

Makes the club look petty and small.

Should be fixed ASAP.

MFC doesn't need this sort of "half cut" derision now or in the future.....

Totally agree.Ā  We were rightly praised during the PF lead up week for being open and embracing the experience.Ā  Next thing we look petty and that will linger.Ā  Need to be bigger than that....

Not with Wilson. There are many other Media outlets who can be given access. What she said in reference to Jimma were disgraceful and totally unnecessaryĀ

Caro acknowledged that Barlett was not happy with an earlier article.Ā  They discussed it last week and he said.Ā Ā  ā€˜I’m bigger than that, no big deal.’

You can raise all the questions you like but the facts we know:Ā  Caro has been co-hosting this function for the club for 20 years.Ā  She wrote an article over the weekend.Ā  Bartlett withdrew the invitation a few days ago and did so thru our media department (who according to Caro cited the reference in the latest article, to diligence around the Pert appointment, as the reason).Ā

As I've said in earlier posts, to me the ban is churlish and the communication thru the media dep't lacks courtesy by Barlett.Ā  Other people on here might have different values to mine but my views on this do not equate to 'passing full judgement on Bartlett' in general.Ā  He is an excellent President.

So is it Pert then?

I know, I know. I'm potentially flaming a fire where there is none.

Agree- ban her for life from any Melbourne function anywhere.

Does make a lot of sense from a business, marketing and media relations side of things. Shutting out the cheif football writer from the second largest print media in Melbourne is just asking for trouble.

Print media, that is soĀ lastĀ year.Ā

There should be more banning people that write unsubstantiated rubbish and ignore faults at their own club. Go ahead ban them, the AFL have no qualms about having approved journalists, why not us. She is not approved by MFC give her nothing, in fact feed news to her opposition.

Ā

If you're going to do something like this, that is, uninvite someone whose absence will be noticed and will likely report or their un-invitation, you need to be upfront about why you're doing so. Otherwise, speculation just runs rife about each side and everyone comes out of it looking worse. Either make a stand or don't, but pick one.

Speaking of Caro, what I did find interesting that Eddie McGuire praised everyone in the past for the current great success of Collingwood including the football department and admin, made a poinr of naming everyone of significanceĀ exceptĀ Gary Pert. Am I reading too much into this that it became toxic - did he leave on his terms? Maybe due diligence by Bartlett and MFC not thorough enough.

He was at the helm for ten years building to a grand final this week - members and sponsors in good order - another thing I have a facilitator for a course im doing that has had a little to do with the colllingwood football club running training sessions for management and players and she lists it as being one of the best organizations in the country, this includes corporate.

perhaps Eddie doesnt praise the opposition as Pert is now.Ā

Ā

I liked the fact Caro went hard on the bombers , but does she really have anything on us?Ā

North carlton west coast all madeĀ interesting list management / selections towards the endĀ of seasons , tanking absolutely 100 % it was commonplace , blind freddy could see that ,Ā Ā I was happy our club did it at the time.Ā

We have been guilty of a lack of foresight and have been dysfunctional as a football club ruining a fewĀ careers along the way but our intent was the opposite.Ā

Im sure she is not perfect .Ā

Ā

As with most of these stories, there is no doubt a bit of truth on both sides.

We are not privy to Caro's past discussions with Bartlett and Jackson.Ā  All we can suspect is that both Bartlett and Jackson were probably disappointed and angry with her speculative piece of journalism about the club and the strained relationship between both men.Ā  They may have briefed her regarding their truth, only to feel betrayed by her article.

Right or wrong, Caro has been negative towards Melbourne for a long time and has come to conclusions based on her perceived truth. The tanking affair being a case in point. Melbourne is not alone but has probably been her favourite club to pick apart.Ā Ā

On the one hand, you can argue that Bartlett looks churlish and perhaps not media savvy, on the other hand, the Club has reason to feel aggrieved at the persistent and ongoing tone of herĀ articles.

It would be pretty unusual in any organisation to invite a guest speaker to speak at a function if that speaker had been openly critical of that organisation's culture, management, decision making and executive differences.Ā

Great so now the media gets to talk about the media some more (Michelle Guthrie).Ā

False media

I can clear that up.

It's mostly because she is a complete and utter cow and she hates ourĀ club .

Surely there is a difference between "banned from" a function and "not required to speak at" a function. Which is it?Ā

Or is this just one of those times where dumĀ dums on the internet collectively get their panties in a bunch over nothing?

I have sent a few of them emails over the years Ā letting them know what i think of them, I always give my name, address and phone number but not one of them has contacted me which surprises me because I often send cc's to other people so the sewer rats could have a go at me for slander if they so desired.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #42 Aidan Johnson

The VFL premiership player was recruited from Werribee to alleviate Melbourne’s forward line woes and give a chop out in the ruck, but he managed only five senior matches in his first season at the club. At times, he was a dominant force at VFL level.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #44 Luker Kentfield

An exciting young key forward, Kentfield was selected in the 2024 mid-season draft but has yet to make his AFL debut. He was sidelined by a severe bout of pneumonia over the summer, which consequently limited his pre-season. Upon his return a month into the season, he commenced in defence but ultimately impressed with his progress at Casey, particularly in the latter part of the season as a strong marking goal kicking forward.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast.Ā In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert. • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.
