Jesse Hogan is damaged goods because Ricky Nixon and Karl Langdon said so.

Jesus Christ.

Just...

Jeez.

Don't forget about the tea leaves!

So, why would Fremantle put in an offer which included pick 11 & supposedly offer him $4.5m if they still hadn’t completed due diligence and were concerned about damaged goods? Makes no sense. Peter Bell is a lawyer, I’m going to assume he’s playing a big game, has put due diligence in there to fuel rumours to push Jesse's price down while not officially saying they’re pulling out.

Other than that, Fremantle is a basket case club, the AFL should intervene as this whole trade period has been a shambles. And why and how can you have a bloke who’s been at your club for 2 days calling all the shots? And CEO going into traderadio everyday.... they are is disarray. It doesn’t surprise me that Lyon & Bell/Rosich aren’t getting along, Ross just wants his players.

I naively assumed (and posted at the time) that Bell's comment about due diligence didn't refer to checking out the player.  I supposed  Bell was just  trying to use big 'business-speak' words instead of simply saying that they won't continue negotiating because MFC is asking far too much.    That seemed to fit the context in his press release and the point made by SFebes.

This isn't about them not wanting Jesse all of a sudden. It's about getting something for nothing.

I wish we could go dodgy eBay seller on them and give them their win by accepting the second rounders but then send them one of those blow up Jesse dolls and then not return their emails.

Ywo questions DL.

Did you buy the doll thinking it was life size only to realize all the other things in the photo  are actually clever miniatures?

Is it a sex doll?

From this post I can only assume you are unaware of this poster’s history. I will suggest that you treat the info he shares with some circumspection and leave it at that.

My interpretation was a more basic version of the same: dumb footballer trying to use corporate wank speak and mincing his words.

And why would they offer him a contract or trades in exchange at all if they were worried he was 'damaged goods'?

Nasher, you’re on  fire!

So the scenario is that just before Fremantle takes Jesse Hogan on a tour of their facility, a number of rumours start circulating about him that paint him in a negative light. The Dockers make him a lucrative offer to come home and then give Melbourne a low ball offer which, when rejected, causes them to pull out of doing their due diligence. Most clubs have gone beyond that style of negotiating but the rhinestone cowboys of Freo have yet to learn. I think they might be experiencing a bit of a wake up call at just about now.

Josh Mahoney: ok, I’m finally ready to sell that car you’ve had your eye on

Peter Bell: great! I’ve been hanging out for it.

JM: I’m asking $15K

PB: I think I can do that. Yeah, alright.

JM: come around and we’ll do the paperwork

Later…

PB: This will be a big hit with the chicks. Here’s your 9K

JM: 9K? We agreed 15!

PB: Yeah, well, I just spent 6 of it on something else so you have to accept 9 now

JM: I can’t sell it for 9

PB: take it or leave it, [censored]

JM: will have to leave it.

PB: (on twitter) I have pulled out of the deal. The asking price was not possible for me to meet. JM doesn’t negotiate in good faith. I don’t like the way that car handles anyway. And I think it’s got rust.

I think this is the most likely outcome but strangely, known troll GNF has said exactly what I've heard about Jesse.  It is the FD preference to keep him.  My source is well connected but I don't know where his information came from so I take it all with a grain of salt.

What I admire about you is your ability to have certainty around a situation that is anything but certain and your ability to sprout it probably close to 50 times in this thread alone.

One of the critical unknowns about this deal is the relationship between MFC and Hogan.  If it is as I've heard and GNF suggests then MFC are in a very good position and can't really lose.  If not Jesse's situation is anything but clear.

Oh, and Graz, I agree with you.  Jesse to GCS on a mega-deal, AFL ambassadorship, Jesse out of the limelight which he might enjoy and he becomes a leader of a club that now has full AFL backing and a good administration.  GCS won't be much good next year but we have seen ourselves how a basket case can be turned around and GCS are better placed than we were to achieve that.

Interesting days ahead.

Should we be manning the airport to see if he is going to GC, just for a day or two, to check out the surf?

Two days later -

PB: I was only kiddin’ the other day. How about 9 plus a steak knife.

Am I the only one who would want Jesse to play defence next year if he stays?

also, the Kolodjashnij deal will be separate to May. Read that it’ll be a future 3rd rounder. Probably completed tomorrow

5 minutes prior to that ...

PB's wife: you knew I was looking forward to that car! You've embarrassed me. You go right back and apologise and buy it!!! Or no nookie for the next ...... forever!!!!!!

What about some form of principles in this trade. Freo have shown none at all so Melbourne should not be dealing with them any longer. It is Freo that called it off. At the start Mahoney said 2 1st rounders for Hogan. For a player of his calibre that is fair enough and Bell threw shizen back in our faces. I just wouldn't deal with them.

What’s worse is jesses manager was told they were happy to use 5 or 6 on the deal by Fremantle and then they back flipped on it when negotiations started.

Not a great way to do business but Brisbane and the giants are having as much trouble as us

For a fit Jesse Hogan, with good attitude and no other issues that is a fair price. Maybe he doesn’t fit my description.

If the deal is done that will happen as GC have apparently put 5 as their price for May and Neale deal will get it done. It’s the rest of the deal that has not been established.

Sounding like the deal will be done Tuesday allowing a day to do other deals for all concerned.

I agree, and I get peter bell is trying to establish that he isn’t a push over or whatever but we have shown we are happy to pay slight overs or receive slight unders to get deals done quickly with no fuss

5&23 to me is slight unders but a fair win-win

Here's the bit that gets me:

Freo (apparently) had told Jesse's management that they would do the deal, involving their pick 6.  They then proceed to trade that out so that deal cannot get done.  WTF?

They then have a raft of picks, none of which would be enough to get the May deal done.  Their only hope is to get a high pick for Neale.  They baulk at this trade, and are saying they will not let him go.  They therefore cannot get the pick they know we would take to get it all done.  WTF??

We seem to have a positive relationship with Jesse, and have no need to accept a low ball offer.  Freo look like they are trying to be the Arthur Daley of the trading world.  Want us to offload our 2 first rounder valued player for chump change.  WTF??

Peter Bell-end and his team are confusing at best, deranged for certain.  Essentially lying to all sides and short dealing everyone they can.  If they had have taken a mature approach to all of this, they would have lost a midfielder (they have a few of those) and would get back a premium, marquee, 10 year power forward.

I'm sorry, I just don't get it.  There is no value to anyone behaving like this.

Red they are still in this despite their bravado & posturing. We are still in this while May is available. Freo must know that if we can't get May + we are not interested.

I think he is a bit further north Mr. Leg, you might need to man the Brisbane international terminal.

AFL clubs have to get more professional about this (and by that I mean Fremantle)....we all know that the likely scenario is that all the players who want to leave are going to get to their club of choice by Wednesday but instead of just getting on with it and striking a fair deal we have to put up with days of this crap.

Im actually feeling like a mark for getting sucked in to it all!

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
