We are essentially the landlord of the MCG, the original owner of the land and the stadium (in addition of course to the the traditional owners, being the Boon Wurrung and Woiwurrung (Wurundjeri) peoples of the Kulin Nation).

It’s about time we showed some of the current tenants (i.e. Richmond and Collingwood) who actually owns this ground.

I’m a little surprised this hasn’t been discussed, but, when we last won the flag, this was our home ground to the exclusion of all other clubs. Since then, we have shared our home ground with several other clubs, and have essentially been shown no respect or gratitude for this.

It’s time to show these squatters who owns this ground.

Let’s bring this ship into port - the landlord is back in town.

Let's do what the Collingwood cheer squad did to Fitzroy and the Fitzroy faithful all those years ago when Fitzroy were sharing Victoria Park. When we play the Pies or Tigers next, get the cheer squad to make a banner saying " YOU ARE NOT WELCOME "

That ought to strike the right note.

Yes Ron, awareness that from this year forward, the pleasant Sunday conversations that could go on, should maybe centre around not the actual ownership as such, but perhaps more now towards our "rights" ahead of others, and why not?

It might be too nuanced for them.

How about. [censored] OFF!!!!

I've always said: It's our home, the other's are all tenants.

.....and i always remind the supporters of those co-tenants of that fact every chance i get...

In those days there was a massive banner affixed to the exterior edge of the ‘outer’ stand , now called the Southern Stand , and in the vivid colours of red and navy blue it read:

FOREVER FORWARD DASHING DEMONS , THE GREATEST EVER EXPONENTS OF PERFECTION FOOTBALL.

Then,  from recollection ,there were some words about how the MCG was ours❤️

It was a huge and imposing banner that adorned OUR ground and we were proud and unforgiving landlords?

When I was a wee lad it read:

Gotta win a flag there in the AFL era. Until then we're no more "owners" than Richmond and Collingwood.

If we win this week and get the job done against either of the aforementioned, I will stand on my seat, ring my bell and yell, "GET THE FUUUUUURK OUTTA MAH HOUSE!"

Never realised those Kulin clans built the G.

I suspect the MCC is the original owner of the G ;)

Our Cheer Squad has the idea.  Posted elsewhere but relevant here.

The banner last week:

It reads:

Our Town.  Our turf.  Our Team. Our Time!

Unfortunately the tenants are there to stay but we can and will show them to whom the hallowed turf really belongs.

Baby boomer alert. It shouldn't surprise me but it always does for some reason.

Who built the G? It's not hard really. So take your sanctimony elsewhere.

The ground is crown land and the MCC are responsible for its maintenance with the state government looking over the MCC’s shoulder.

It's not sanctimony mate, its just a respect thing. You're the one that felt the need to poke fun at the first people who inhabited the land the MCG sits on, not me.

Take your ordinary sense of humor elsewhere perhaps.

You too miss the point.

Not the land the Cricket Ground.

FWIW - I think the secret to who is the original owner of the ground is hidden in the naming.

Melbourne Cricket Ground - ergo the MCC. Sure, we may have been the first footy team to play there. I'm not sure that really gives us the right to say we are the original owners of the ground in so many words.

The first game of footy at the MCG wasn't for around 5 years after the site was established (correct me if I'm wrong please).

Sorry Ron we are but a tenant. It is the MCG not the MFG, cricket was first played on the G, rumour has it that football was devised as a method to keep the cricketers fit during winter. So if your primary premise is flawed it does not help your argument. But we were the first football tenants.

It’s our traditional ground, always has been. Forgotten history.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
