Eliminating Geelong from the Finals this Friday night would almost make the journey come full circle.  They have caused us so much grief over such a long period, and loved kicking us when we were down.  ?

Great article. Important to remind ourselves where we’ve been. Two things that really stick out:

- Why on earth did we give Schwab a 3 year contract in 2012?

- I used to defend the Bailey/Neeld eras by pointing out all the terrible injuries and uncontrollables (Jurrah and Scully) but look at that first year of Roos and tell me he wasn’t dealt a crappy hand!

Putting aside the numerous disasters and the non football side of the business (PJ what an Appointment) is how good our recruiting has been since the Toump disaster. Josh Mahoney has run a great football department and our recruiting has beenalmost100% spot on. The contrast to our earlier disasters is truly amazing. I think we can beat the cats but irrespective in the longer term we are going in two different directions.

I still shudder when i hear the name Cameron Schwab..

Hopefully he's not allowed within 50m of our football club ever again.

While we have a ways to go to get there, prepare to see a cavalcade of selfies donning a bad Melbourne scarf and self promoting tweets should we get close to a grand final.

Fans of Geelong, Sydney, and Hawthorn should have a read of that to understand why this means so much to us long suffering fans. Especially the ones that are 20 and under, they’re the worst because pretty much all they’ve known is success.

Conversely I’m always dead impressed to see the number of under 25 year olds who support Melbourne. They have only known, as Goodwin said, misery

Bloody hell it must be the week to bring up all the past crap for the last 12 years.

What a nightmare it has been but for the love of god I don’t need the reminders.

We have all lived through it and imo we have the best supporter base in the afl.

We have stuck fast with this club and deserve every success we get.

Go Demons.

One thing that struck me reading that article was the timing of Josh Mahoney's appointment and our improvement. I wonder whether I've not fully appreciated Mahoney's role in our rise. It may just be a coincidence of timing (to use a cliche, he was in the right place at the right time) or conversely Mahoney has been a major but perhaps unheralded reason for where we now find ourselves.

Despite what it loses in humour, this AFL article gains many points for brevity over Supermercado's The Great Dee-pression.

Still...1-star. Would not live through again.

Just bought the book last night chook.

Now we've made the finals, I'm mentally sound enough to read through the disaster that has been.

If we'd missed the finals again I couldn't have gone near it.

Still feel guilty for what I put my kids through.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
