Open Mike with Mark Neeld on Fox Footy (4/9)

He looks happier at least.

I assume Mike paid him with the right type of jelly beans for the interview.

I already want to punch him. I know that’s irrational but he just makes me sooooo mad!

I know he had good intentions, but still a tool.

I loved how they wanted to go young and invest in talent, yet [censored] up every draft pick. Lols.

God it’s good to be on the other side.

Wow Joel Selwood and now Mark Neeld on the telly in only the space of an 1/2 hour , vomit bag well and truly over due

Longest non-answers of all time.

Is so socially awkward, doesn’t get his opinion across clearly or accurately.  Clearly Cam and Gary just thought the complete opposite to Bayley was the answer.  ?‍♂️

no wonder there was a player exodus whilst he was coach.. he’s as boring as bat [censored]

....So Mark, your a complete nutbag and a school teacher, yet you still managed to become an afl coach? How did that happen?

Its just the wrong time. Early next year would have been a bit better, there's no need to hear from this guy on the eve of the finals at all.

Not a bad time because we dont need to hear from this fool again.

He was concise and to the point to any soft question.

Anything negative and it was rambling on that led to nowhere.

Hearing his side of the story, it seems like a lot of the direction was given to him by higher powers. Lyon, McLardy and Schwab hatched one of the worst plans in footballing history.

Also, he believed the players basically voted in Grimes and Trengove.

No Jack Watts questions.

Seems unaffected by it all. At the end of the day he has a wife and kids and he is a person. I wish him well, so long as he stays the hell away from my club.

Yep. Those three should be ashamed of themselves. Making decisions they had no business making. Ripping the heart of the club. Banishing senior players. Then completely effing up every draft pick. Disgraceful.

Three blind monkeys.

Mike Sheehan seeks to become the greatest tool in AFL.

He has chosen the perfect interview subject.

Thankfully I shot my TV with a 44 magnum lever action many years ago.

Mike could have gone harder but it isn't a boxing match. He mentioned the 'going too hard' stuff but didn't really pursue it as much as he could.

I still wonder how self aware he is after all these years. When he mentioned that CS was 'really supportive' and that he was adamant that they were on the right path, I wanted Mike to point out that CS's neck was on the line if Neeld were to fail. He was the one who helped facilitate the Bailey sacking, got the players who spoke out against him sacked  and drove Neeldy's appointment. Of course it was in his best interests to make people think everything was going swimmingly and for Neeld to stay on the track that he had prescribed. His answers in that regard overlooked a lot of history.

It seemed to me that CS and Gaddy were calling the shots rather than him. 5 years on, the Gaz Man is still coming up with revolutionary solutions for struggling teams such as 'they didn't try hard enough' showing why he should be safely ignored.

Did he give any indication he might go to another club like Richmond or Hawthorn for a season?

Carlton, surely?

Don't spend too much time sitting on the toilet Biff. You might be tempting fate if you share certain traits with one Aaron Elvis Presley.

Open Mike with Mark Neeld

it seemed like neeld had zero remorse for what he did at Melbourne, instead blaming the higher powers for not making clear the long term plan for the club and neeld continually suggesting the team was on the right track. is this idiot aware he is statistically the worst coach of melbourne in history?

....

Agree. I think the interview brings home once again how on-field performance only comes on the back of club-wide behaviours, and you can never really lay the blame for failure or the credits for success at the foot of a single individual. Yes, after this we got Roos, but it was the changes on the admin and Board side that really started to steady the ship and put in place the foundations for what we see now.

Yes, Neeld made some poor decisions, but so did many others around him at the time, and from the top down. Still, easy to say in hindsight.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
