Does anyone know if the AFL chooses an x amount of umpires for the finals series based on performance or do they have a full list available?

I think Shmitt  has been ok for us this year No Nichols no Chamberlain

You mean the smart alec who punitively and unnecessarily penalised Jones against the Gold Coast when he kicked the ball into the fence ??

What  a goose !!!

For me, the two guys who umpired the West Coast game we’re pretty good in the end - they didn’t let the home crowd get to them

Very true and a good choice, definitely not crowed-affected and that could be a change for the better for the mighty Dees.

Almost any bar Nichols and Chamberpot.

I just hope that whoever the umps are, they are this time attuned to the manipulation by certain Geelong players of several rules that are a Geelong staple.

Let's also hope that we don't fall into the trap again.

I'm also looking forward to Duckwood spending a large portion of time on the bench for the blood rule.

Nah, I’m pretty happy with it. Here’s how it will go down:

1) the umpires will make a number of very borderline decisions and a few blatantly wrong ones, because our game is hard to umpire and our umpires are part timers

2) there will be one or two very controversial ones that directly create goals. If they go against us, it means they’ve been orchestrated by the AFL to ensure Geelong win

3) Any free paid against us by Nicholls or one of the other high profile umps is just further proof that they hate us.

4) if we win, the umpiring will be forgotten in an instant. If we lose it’s “We’re not blaming the umpiring, but...”

TWSNBN and Umpires ensure i will maintain the rage, however the rest of the time i'm quite normal

Correct!!! I’ll take any happily, except him..

Taking things a step sideways ...

Are Richmond (when it suits) deliberately giving away free kicks to slow the progression of the teams they play?

And as an add-on are they also aware that any free kick they might get in tbeir favour might slow their own progress towards goal.

The above is coming from a  couple of Tiger supporters that I know who prefer to view the sport in a tactical way

There has been a few professional free kicks this year, even we have done it a few times to give our backs time to set up. Honestly, I don’t like it, it’s not in the spirit of the game.

Interesting that the Tigers are behind in the free kick ratio I believe?  Yet they win a lot.

I don't watch a lot of footy apart from our games (often twice) but I'm not sure we are doing it.

The Sheedy tactic of deliberately getting his team to give away 15 metre penalties was a tactic that was not reeled in immediately.  So if Ruchmond are doing it then it's along the same lines.

Flooding back becomes an easier exercise and then they back tbemselves to create a turnover across half back.  Geelong did the same for years but didn't need to give away a free kick as the game was more positional 10 years ago.

I find these comments to be extremely accurate except for the fact that they are being used to mock my core beliefs.

First elimination final: Melbourne v Geelong
Field umpires: Ray Chamberlain, Robert Findlay, Jacob Mollison

As I said I told you first on sunday. Add their numbers up and you will see the answer.

Forget all the newsbreakers,  Redleg is the one.

What about Glen James and Peter Carey.....they barrack for the Dees!

How do you even know that Jack? Ha ha

My interest is virtually at zero levels with these sorts of things though.  Way more interested in whether we are good enough to win.

The umps will make their usual array of errors but I refuse to believe that it is anything personal.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
