I think he will be off to the blues or freo for a very large sum of money.

This article gives more insight:

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/crow-walks-out-contracted-mcgovern-demands-a-trade-20180828-p500d6.html

Can see why the Crows must be a lovely place to be.....or not!

"In June Fairfax Media reported that McGovern had sought to move club's during last year's trade period despite agreeing to a three-year contract extension in late August, because he felt the Crows had short-changed him in the deal.

It’s believed McGovern had agreed to the Adelaide deal because the club said it had no more room in its salary cap.

The Crows then signed Bryce Gibbs from Carlton in a deal worth more per season than McGovern."

And so it begins...

Thankfully, we can look forward to the finals beginning after the bye.

Walk out on Adelaide, sign up with Carlton.  Doesn't seem like a step up to me.  The bloke looks alright as a third tall but he'll get more attention at the Visy Blues.  They must be throwing some large coin at him.

Same reason lever left, got offered way unders

But he’s signed until 2020, I’d suggest there’s more to it.

Nope, slyly handing it to him in a brown paper bag.

Averages ten touches and a goal. Probably worth a second rounder.

Watch Carlton panic and cough up a first rounder for him.  I can't wait.

I was going to edit my post with pretty much the same comment. It will happen.

There's talk of their priority pick if it's a mid first rounder

Wow. Carlscum are at least 5 years away from being anywhere.

It’s all about $$$$

but then that’s Carlscum

Does that mean Crows will have 3 x first round picks in a draft allegedly strong in the first round?

I think that's right, although our pick won't be that high.  After having a few players jump ship they are desperate to get into the Top 3 to nab one of the gun South Australian players so they might throw two of them up to get further up the draft.

The word is Carlton might cough up their first pick for McGovern and Pick 7, but I'd be very, very surprised if they did that.  They aren't that stupid... are they?

With two years left on his contract, Adelaide will want a 1st and 2nd round pick for him. (Only slightly tongue in cheek ?)

Carlton are after mids, I can't see them throwing away a 1st round pick for him. Unless they get a priority pick at the end of 1st round, trade that for McGovern and a 2nd round pick?

Really is a seller’s market. I don’t see McGovern holding down a no.1 keep post up forward so if they cashed in on some picks they would be laughing.

Um . . . short answer is 'yes'.

Is SOS still list manager? Answers itself if he is.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
