And the free kick that should have been paid against Tyson just before half time. (lol)

You mean like the one given to them when whoever ran into a completely stationary Sam Weideman with his head and got a free kick for head high? Incompetent stuff. The umpiring was better than usual, but still heavily favoured West Coast.

Not entirely - if we lose, Geelong could pass us on percentage (they gained 8% from their win over Fremantle so if they do a similar number on GC it's not out of the question). So it's possible we slip to 8th, which would lead to a repeat game against GWS at Spotless (or 100,000 going to the G if Fremantle can beat Collingwood).

Very true. I only ran through the most common scenarios, but this is also possible. It's in our hands, but I'm also hoping GC try to end the year with some dignity haha

Why not us!!

As an aside @Demonland I’m interested on your thoughts on the new stadium, good place to watch footy?

Embedded videoJubilation in this short video. Well earned boys!

It's been said a bit but I thought it appropriate to give a shout out to Lewis and Jones - both stood up when necessary in the fourth, I thought.

Loved the way the boys fought back once the Eagles took the lead and had the momentum, we would have folded right there in previous years. A few observations:

1. How on Earth does Harmes control their best mid and still attack the other way, you are a gem.

2. Salem was disappointing for the first half of the year but now has a more physical approach and refuses to be easily knocked off the ball, much improved.

3. Weideman is going to make it, still early but getting closer

4. Welcome back Melksham

5. The channel 7 commentary is totally shite, several times they were calling the wrong player

Well first part done but we aren’t finished!

The one who wasn't BT (Mark Readings? Sounded like Jason Bennett at first) was good. Bartel is also good I think.

BT kept getting Rioli, Ryan and Jetta mixed up.

Great job Dees.

Now all we have to do is to win the next 5 and then ???????

But, to use a hackneyed phrase, one week at a time x5 more!

My heart almost couldn't take that last quarter, but what a game we played. Such a good feeling to be back in Finals.

Lucky I put in for the Grand Final Ballot a couple of days ago ;)

Surprisingly I thought the umpiring was quite good for a West Coast home game. They didn't pay a lot of those 50-50s which would almost always get called for the home team.

That, he was getting Melksham and Hannan mixed up too

We did get a good run from the umpires because we are fighting through good words against what we have seen - the battleground is Demonland.

This looks like one of those internet gags where you start a sentence and then finish it through your phone’s predictive text

Umpiring was good today, except that free kick paid against Vanders

They didn't umpire to the mass hysteria of the pro Meth Coast fans

Disgrace that was, it was just a guess.

So am i...

Let me tell you a story.

Last week, when I got home from the Sydney game, I had a most bittersweet moment.

I’ve been teaching my 3.5 yo twin girls about footy and the Dees. They haven’t been to a match yet (wouldn’t last a quarter!), but I take them to watch the local Girls’ team and the Thirds play at our local EFL ground. They call out and point to anyone playing footy ‘look daddy there’s a demon!’. They know we like red and blue. They can pick out the Dees mascot in their toddler AFL book. The brainwashing is working. And they know about 75% of ‘grand old flag’.

Anyway, when I was leaving the G last week in a [censored] rage, I made the obligatory text to my non-football-loving lady that I was on my way home. Without caring to check if we had won or not, she had a ‘grand old flag’ singalong with the girls queued up for when I walked through the door, complete with flags and scarves.

I smiled , shook my head and said maybe we should save it for the next win. I’d gotten 2 new flags for the girls but left them bitterly in the boot of the car. Their smiling faces beneath their Dees beanies just ripped my bloody heart out; as much as the club had an hour earlier. It took every ounce of mindfulness to enjoy the moment for what it was, albeit gut wrenching.

Today, the girls were obliviously playing elsewhere as I watched us forge a win to get us into finals for the first time in 12 years. A third of my lifetime. Once Kent kicked that goal, I got the flags from the boot of the car, put the girls beanies on and made them watch the dying minutes. We danced around the coffee table, waving flags, me choking back tears and the girls loudly singing ‘grand old flag’ on its 14th repeat.

And they knew all the words.

The future is bright, people.

❤️?

Obviously you didn't sit with the Western Dee's group and then go to the aftermath int he Subaico clubroom where Joe Gutnick was trying to rev's us up :)      We had a big demon crowd that day, like at today's game.  It was also our greatest winning margin agains them.

I was on me pat. fearing for my life at the opposite end to the cheers squad! felt like old vic park days where I was sitting

Good chance one of these 15 pages mention it, but what was the scuffle at the end about.  Nev looked seriously upset.

Seriously kidding themselves. It was in play. AVB wasn’t even looking and the guy he “hit” played very well for the rest of the game.

The Oscar tackle was a perfect tackle. Just unfortunate that Darling hit his head.

Nothing would make me happier than [censored] smashing those pricks. God I hate them so much. What a sweet sweet story that would be!

Agreed. Never seen Jetta fight let alone look so mad. Even his teammates couldn’t break it up. I suspect something very inappropriate was said to Nev.

Vanders was in play and he was going for the ball. If anything it was careless low impact and might earn him a fine. Buddy Franklin has thrown two elbows like this so far this year and has got off. They've done far more damage than today's incident.

Oscar cannot be found guilty. It was the textbook tackle. You can't claim that was two actions  .he is obligated to bring him to ground. No sling. No driving motion.

Darling played for the push in the back.  This is what happens when the AFL takes too long stopping people playing for frees.

I actually turned off the tv when WC hit the lead. Couldn't bear to watch such misery again.

A friend then sent me a text message saying melbourne had regained the lead, so i turned the  tv back on. Glad I did!!

From what I saw, it looked like Darling was the instigator of going to ground....

Yeah I was talking to the Mrs about that.  Really out of character for Nev. Must have hit a nerve.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
