Still buzzing.

If we win next week we play Geelong in our first elim final. Wowee.

The script looks written for us to knock the cats out of the finals after the heartbreaking losses against them. Would be so sweet!

Somebody please just hold me as I sob.

Loving seeing the joy from all the posters, regulars and non regulars. God knows we deserve this,

I want us to win next week, the G is our home and even though it hasn't been a happy hunting ground for us of late that needs to change. Let's start from next week.

Ever since round one I've wanted us to face the cats in the finals. I want nothing more than for us to swipe those arrogant smiles of the cats fans faces. They've been lucky too long now, they didn't deserve round 1, and they didn't deserve round 18. Let's take them down when it really matters.

Couldn't agree more! The losses this year were heartbreaking. They didn't deserve either of them. But boy can we make it sting by beating them when it counts. The look on their faces will be the stuff of sweet dreams for a long time haha

Just saw Paul Roos make a toast to the MFC on his Instagram story ❤

Those DL'ers bemoaning the selection of Milkshake , particularly after he copped the 12 month ban, are eating humble pie.

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but how sweet to beat the team that denied us a place in the finals last year

Did not even think of that. Makes it sweeter.

How good was it when we started to control the tempo with about two minutes to go?

If only we could do that say at the end of each quarter when we are 20-30 points up and the opposition have just kicked a goal.

An official thank you Mr Roo’s . I hope you feel proud today !

Wonder how Viney is feeling tonight.

I would think he would be extremely happy and checking out his toe. ?

As it happens, I'll be in Sydney for the first week of the finals with my 3 kids (all Demons supporters).

Hmm, I had booked to have dinner at Icebergs at Bondi on Saturday night. If Demons play in Sydney that night, looks like I'll have to cancel that booking.

I've been a Demons supporter since 1968. Very pleased. However, nothing compares to the feeling at the final H+A match at the Western Oval in 1987. (I was there.)

GO DEES !!!

Goodwin says it best:

"I am so happy for our supporters right now...They have had 12 years of misery, but now they have a team they can really get in behind and support and build some momentum from here."

I look forward to a new narrative from all the media 'experts' harping on about 'can't be trusted' and 'mentally weak'.

The guys showed today, how badly they want finals.  Very proud day for every demon fan.

Well done MFC. What a great collective effort when needed. We beat a good side today. I'm happy, exhausted and about to watch the replay. Go Dees

Oh my god so happy. When wc hit the front I know we all thought here we go, coughed up another lead and they will run over us. But it was great that we answered with the next couple of goals. Gee it was good to have melksham and hibbard back. Hannan was also really good.

Laughing at the west coast fans on twitter complaining about the umpiring.

But loved Jonsey's reaction on the final siren. Well done boys.

I hope we get a great crowd next week and get a win and go into the finals with confidence.

I also hope the younger boys just don't see this finals campaign as an experience. Because they just need to look at there captain to know how hard it is to play finals.

Even Neale Daniher put out a tweet saying its bloody brilliant.

Only 3 teams beat West at home this year. Sydney, Dons and us. Even Tigers couldn’t do that

How good was that! Milkshake is crucial to this club. Harmes was awesome. Jonesy played a captain's game. Gus, Clarry and Maxxy solid as always. Loved the INs. Hannan was fantastic. Didn't hit the scoreboard (kicks were woeful), but I really liked what I saw from Weids. He's going to be a great contributor. Even Kent gave a little in the second half.

Modelling for the finals:

First good news (from a 'I don't like the Roos' perspective) is it doesn't look like they can make it from here, same as Port as they need the cats to lose to the suns... Yikes.

If we win (regardless of hawks Sydney game) we finish 5 and we play cats at G.

If we lose and Hawks win, we play Sydney over there.

If we lose and Swans win, we play Hawks at G.

I really don't know what I prefer. I'd rather win (obv) and knock the cats out of the finals. Can't lose to them 3x in a year, right? Plus, it would be great for the story to knock the cats out of the finals!

BRING IT!

If we win and Freo beat Collingwood we finish fourth. I’m barracking for that!

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
