Four weeks to go and it’s been hard to watch some games this year but a lot of us will be tuning in for the last month.

No downer this week for Richmond, Tigers by 27.

Haw v ESS.

Can’t stand both of them. The arrogance of ESS supporters at work have me wearing my brown and gold hat on for tomorrow. They have penciled the R23 game against Port as the game that will get them in the finals. Breust to kick 6 and Uber the Bombers back to Tullamarine.

Lions v Kangas. Lions are definitely not playing for draft picks. Higgins a big out, tough game for North.

The Showdown. Crows anyone?

Syd v Coll.

Feel good story with Johnson returning, Pies missing Howe. Can’t pick this one. Someone suggested a draw on another thread for this game so draw it is, just to confuse us even more.

Huge week for the Dees this week in Non-MFC games.

Obviously we want the Tigers to win.

We need the Dons to do us a few favours in the run home and this is a huge one.

The Lions are the only real chance of a team knocking off the Kangas in the run home.

No brainer that we want the Crows to win.

We want Sydney to win if we can win 3 or 4 games but Collingwood if we're only going to win 1 or 2.

If you want to go down the rose coloured glasses route then Freo knocking off the Eagles would help out my Top 2 dream.

Lions team looks a lot better on paper than their ladder position suggests.  The Kangas lost Higgins who is a jet.

A Brisbane win ends Norths season and gives us one less team to worry about, and that would be lovely.

Crows will be up and about for the showdown too, knocking off Port would be massive for us.

You've changed, where has your MFCSS gone......?

Do I sense some excitement finally? haha

Agree with all there, I'm just concerned that if the Swans have a spirited win they'll get a sniff and we play them next week. But.....if we are going to go places we should beat them anyway I guess.

Interesting all this talk that we haven’t beaten any team in the current 8. If we had beaten Geelong it would still be the same situation as of today. And if we manage to beat the Swans it will stil mean we haven’t beaten the current top 8 side after the fact. Our only chance to bag a top 8 side only comes in the last two rounds.

The irony is if North replace us in the finals we would've actually beaten a top 8 side but miss finals. Conversely if we only beat Sydney and GC (but make the finals) on the run home, then we'll go into finals not beating a top 8 side.

I will spew if North make finals but we don't.

Have to give a nod to Swan's Alex Johnson.  5 knee reconstructions and 6 years out of AFL.   Huge achievement to make it back.

Testament to his commitment and resilience.  Wish him well.

Hawthorn v Essendon - what a horrible combination - can they both lose?

Crows vs North at AO R22 is another challenge for North.  If they win all 4 we can miss out with 13 wins.

What actually suits us better tomorrow? I initially thought a Hawks win. Bombers could be killed off tomorrow.

Hawks still to play Geelong, Sydney and Saints somewhere in between.

Dons have Saints, Richmond and Port away.

Busy Saturday coming up. 4 big non MFC games from 1.45pm.

Lions are a VERY good chance to beat the Roos. Higgins is a big out and their young group is starting to develop some belief.

I hope that Richmond pummel Geelong.

Haw and Essenscum. Hope they bash each others heads in and get reported. Haw win would be better as it will kill off the scum but somehow I think the druggies will win.

Go the lions but unfortunately the roos will win.

Crows to beat powerpuffs.

Would prefer the filth to win ( as hard as that is ) but the swans will win. Too many injured pies.

Definitely an Essendon win is better for us.  They are not going to win all four with Richmond and Port away in there.

If North win all 4 (more likely than Essendon winning all 4) and Hawthorn win 3 we can miss even with 13 wins.

What a weekend of matches. To use a golfing term...."It's moving day".

Important for the MFC to get the job done but a Port loss for example could deliver the opening we need.

Need a high scoring close loss by the Bombers to Essendon so as to dent that Hawthorn percentage run just a little.

So many combinations.

As they say in the classics..... "A great round of footy coming up !!"

I really don't rate Port Adelaide, so long as Adelaide have a flicker of hope they are a good chance this weekend.

And the Crows pride is  stinging bad. A slim finals chance and revenge on their bitter rivals is a huge incentive.

I think Sydney will win by the way.

I think it’s better for us if Collingwood win, though I’ve tipped the swans.

Rich vs Geel - really really hope the Tigers get up tonight

Hawks vs Ess - hawks coming back from a short break playing in WA, I think bombers could get them on the run & spread

Brisb vs North - North don't usually lose these games? Kangas to get up ... but fingers crossed for the Lions!

Adel vs Port - 50/50 Carn Crows

Saints vs Dogs - who cares

Syd vs Coll - injuiries SHOULD catch up on the pies with Swans to win here ... BIG BIG game next week

Carl vs GWS - Blue have had their 2nd win, GWS by a mile

WCE vs Freo - mmmmm Eagles should win this easy

100% want Collingwood to win. they should get to 14 wins but the swans are down and we play them next week.

I am amazed some of us are looking at what is better for our top 4 chances as we are still a fair chance to miss finals. remember last year?  I just want to make finals, badly.

As Richmond have top 2 locked away, Im worried they will take it easy in the run home. Bombers or Cats could get up.

I know it doesn't make heaps of sense but I am cheering on the Hawks tomorrow. I HATE essendon and can see them winning all 4 games if they win tomorrow.

finally - COME ON THE LIONS.  if the Roos win they are almost in the finals due to their easy run home.

I really really hope the Lions put North to the sword and kill that one off! I would always be barracking for Sydney in this matchup but very torn this time.

It’s funny isn’t it when people talk about this. We beat north when they were top 8 and being talked about as contenders and we smashed Adelaide when they were 4th and looking good to back up thier last season. But people only look at the ladder today.

Good luck to Nathan Freeman who is playing his debut game this weekend after being drafted at pick 10 in 2013.

That’s wild isn’t it. In 2013 Obama had only just started his second term and the world was yet to hear of Trump. Gillard, Rudd and Abbot were our Prime Ministers. It seems a long time ago.

Good luck to Nathan. A study in perseverance

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
