ROUND 19 - Non MFC games

Recommended Posts

If Collingwood beat Richmond then full credit to them.

But their record against the top 8 is only marginally better than ours. 1-4 (1-5 when you add in Geelong), and the only win is against us and we're 0-4 (0-6 including Geelong).

The last time they played a top 8 side they got beaten by West Coast, a man down in rotations for over a half, by 6 goals at home.

I'm just not yet convinced Collingwood is as good as their record or ladder position suggest.

De Goey from Collingwood out for at least 2 weeks with bone stress to fibula. In plain English it means a broken leg.

Really? Never heard of a player only missing 2 weeks with a broken leg. Miraculous.

A few decent chances of upsets this week -

Geelong vs Brisbane - unfortunately its in Geelong, but the Lions are playing very good footy

Freo vs Hawthorn -  Dockers beat Port at home a couple of weeks ago, while hawks lost to the Lions in Tassie.    Dockers with some handy players back this week too.

Doggies vs Port -   Port are overrated,  the Bont is back and the game is in Ballarat.

If we can get an upset (preferably a couple)  from those three games it will be a great result.

Who else thinks Richmond will smash the Pies this weekend? A lot of talk about game of the round etc, but with Pies injuries I can see it being very one sided and Collingwood are just as bad as us, they've beaten no one.

We’re cheering the Swans on tonight, right?

No way we could handle Ess on the same points as us if they win tonight.??

I tend to agree. If sydney win then we hopefully will as well which keeps both essenscum and adelaide on 36 points and probably gone for the year. Fremantle and brissy are the ones to watch. Girlong might be a little flat after last week. Would love to see the filth get thrashed.

Collingwood: Consistently smashes poor sides, loses to top sides, "respectable losses"

Melbourne: the same, except replace respectable with disappointing or disastrous.

It's a tough one.  On one hand, Sydney have a very tough draw, and a loss tonight could help their slide.

On the other hand, Essendon's draw would seem to be easier than ours, so a win tonight could see them get in front of us and be hard for us to run down.  That said, I don't really rate the Bombers, so I can see them dropping some of the "easier" games that they have.

I'll be supporting Essendon tonight (vomit!). They have Hawthorn next week (then StK), then Richmond and Port away in their last two rounds and need 4 out of 5 to make 13 wins. It's not completely unrealistic but I think they are a long shot to make the 8. Sydney have a super tough run and if they drop this they could also miss finals.

FWIW I have tipped Sydney, as I don't rate Essendon.

i reckon Swans will miss finals. For those who like to punt they are $3 to miss finals. if they lose tonight - which i suspect they will - that will come into$1.80 or so so if keen load up tonight (i'm keen).

Critical game for them. I think Essendon will be too quick for them.

A bombers win would be great for us. they won't make it and swans fall out of the 8 that will help us.

Our percentage is the ace up our sleeves.

It's critical that Freo beat Hawthorn on Sunday night if we're any hope of sneaking in with 12 wins.

I can see a lot of sides including us finishing on 12 wins and we all know who has the best percentage at the moment.

Whilst Adelaide and Essendon are paying elimination finals every week, they'll eventually come tumbling down in the last couple of weeks.

While we will all be barracking for some sides to beat others (as much as we wished we wouldn't have to do that this year), there's going to be a lot of sides hoping we beat our opponent or our opponent beats us.

The hopes of about 7 clubs hinge on the results of many of our remaining games.

We're not alone in this boat.  It's great, but also killing me.

Must be a spin tactic from the filth hierarchy, as their members are probably too stupid to figure it out , a stress fracture ... must just need a few Valiums and two week holiday

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
