If you can get past the firewall:

Great. We could have round 2 of the brawl.

"GEELONG will request a home final at GMHBA Stadium should it finish in fifth or sixth position on the ladder at the end of the home-and-away season.....

......And I think we would (against Melbourne or North Melbourne) as well.”

They asked last year as well and were told no. I can't see it happening unless there are 3 other Vic games and they are playing GWS/Freo/GC. But this is the AFL would be just like them to screw one of us smaller Vic teams.

They wont get it as Dr Gonzo says unless it were against an interstate team or the other 3 finals were in Melbourne.

Even with that occurring the AFL then gets control of ticketing and members of both competing clubs get access to the tickets. The home and away cauldron they are used to of 99% Cats fans wouldn't exist in a home final against a Vic side and 60/40 or 70/30 wouldn't be a surprise with it more likely to be closer to 40% opposition supporters

My understanding is that the AFL instructed all nine clubs still in contention for finals to send out those emails.

Had we made it, another club would have been seen to be getting ahead of themselves and copped the ridicule.

Unfortunately, nobody really seems interested in the truth when there is an opportunity to sh1tcan Melbourne.

I believe you are correct, that’s my understanding also. The topic only reminded me of that horror ending last year. I didn’t mean to sound like I was potting our club.

Sorry mate, wasn't having a go at you at all, more so those outside the club.

I see the old 'cancelled camp responsible for everything' got another run this week as well!

If hypothetically we were playing 'away' to Geelong in a final I'd be happy if it were down there, or for a compromise at the fortress Etihad. We have played better footy at those venues there than at the G.

But doing the ladder predictor a few different ways it would require some .. Interesting... results for where Geelong plays a home final to apply to us anyway

Even if they get it, and we were to play them there in a final, I'd be all for it.  GMHBA Stadium should hold no fears for us.

Would there still be umpires?

Given that they wouldn't have priority access to tickets - they'd be denying half their membership from going if it were against another Victorian club.  Won't happen.

it's about money....the super box revenue alone would be very significant. Add in the signage and pouring rights that would either have a kicker clause in the contract or would then attract a premium next time round. The benefits are very substantial.

Do you really think they worry about their "extra" low paying, lower tier members. If anything it will make those members upgrade next year.

Good! Hope they do give it to them!

hope we make it and we have to play them there.

I live in Geelong and its been hell all week.

I have at least half a dozen Geelong member mates that could possibly get me a ticket, would love to go, ill bring hand bags to pass around at the end of the game after we win!!

Was it Fremantle in maybe 2013 who had to play a home final at Kardinia Park and upset the Cats? Hope it happens again to whoever they play there. One of the more annoying whining clubs with Selwood, Danger, Hawkins, Chris Scott.

Yes it was freo. But a melbourne team would result in even crowd numbers also.

I wouldn't think it would be 'even' numbers would it? I think maybe 5,000 seats allocated for the opposition? Unsure how it works though.

The statistical odds of four games in Melbourne in the first week are extremely low.

AFL now own Etihad and will want a return on their investment.

Mind you the squeaky wheel syndrome etc has a lot going for it. MFC take note.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
