Dogs handball is killing us. We are a lethargic rabble. The Darwin game has killed this club & if the team plays like this in the he 2nd half the Dogs will overrun us.

Another Goodwin move. Bring in Hannan who has done SFA all year for Viney when you have Tyson, who all year you have refused to play in his rightful spot as an inside mid.

Honestly this coach and this team are infuriating.

100% agree Hannan has done SFA all year

He has been solid up till then but must play within his limitations.  That is also a Coach's role, to ensure they drill it in training and have players going past on support for the easy give and better decision making/disposal outcomes in the hands of better ball users.

Jetta and Frost our best 2 defenders this half IMO.

Seriously? Frost has cost us 2 goals.

EVERYONE: "Melbourne has no footspeed.
ALSO EVERYONE: "Why would you play Hannan when you have slow-as-treacle Tyson in the VFL?"

Good lord this has St Kilda game written all over it..

They beating us to the ball and their young kids are just running around us with ease.

Again Oscar making an average player look like Wayne Carey.

[censored] off Lewis!

Wheres Jones? Need the the captain to step up!

Ordinary first half.

Lewis is a crab. I don’t care how much ball he gets and the leadership he ‘supposedly’ provides.

Right now the symptoms are we're losing the clearances, and getting smashed in uncontested possessions.

I think the main problem is we are all going for the hardball instead of trusting our team mates and staying outside to recieve and defend.  We are not able to get clean first possession because we are congested and then have no one else to give it too outside.  Then if they get it, we're are all caught inside allowing them to get low pressure uncontested possessions as they make space.

On top of that we're aren't making position when transitioning from defence unless it's a fast break. The poor kicks have largely been the result of poor options.

He also laid multiple goal saving tackles and smothered the ball over the goals. I count 3 goal saves from him, with 2 f-ups. A net positive.

Need more pressure on bulldogs. Increase tackle numbers. Pressure will create turnovers for us.

Stop playing dumb footy, eg, kicking to a stationary Gawn when there are 3 dogs on him (Frost), or spilling simple chest marks (JKH) under little pressure. We have a number of VFL-only players

A man needs to know his limitations.

Lewis is directly responsible for opposition goals every week. Either lack of discipline or kicking directly to opposition. I’m sick of him. Bernie is better. Lewis to Casey

You mean like Lewis was pilloried for doing last week?

well hopefully having the dogs so close will spur these guys to come out and play football. disappointed in the poor tackling and the way the dogs are waltzing around groups of melbourne players all too intent on something else to go after the man with the ball.

if we cannot put this team to the sword in the second half then you can kiss our finals goodbye.

haha yes this.  Anyone who thinks Tyson would fix this is definitely on the spectrum.

Maybe when the AFL decrees that handballs to feet are worth points we'll bring back Tyson.

I just can’t believe our lack of defensive pressure

We won’t win at the G with this zone; it leaves too much space open wide on the wings and waiting for transitional ball movement

Hannan is a mind boggling out of form replacement decision from Goody & Co.

Bugg & Tyson before Hannan were the obvious ins to ensure we didnt lose so many stoppage clearances with Viney out.

Hannan will need to play a super second half to justify that selection.

Literally 5-6 dogs running completely free out of every contest.  They know we can't catch them.  It's f'n embarassing to watch.

I thought we were 9 goals down, until i saw the half time score.

You guys are unbelievable. We must be doing a few good things, please

I think the dogs grew in confidence through the first quarter - they know that they can out run as !

They have a fleet of foot runing brigade and they know we are carrying plodders.

Its their midfeild game v's our dominant big men.

I just dont understand the lack of intensity or pressure.

No excuse.

Coach has an easy to dissect gameplan with no plan B, and the players’ themselves are all for glory without wanting to put in the guts.

Both think we’re better than what we are, but will refuse to come back to reality until the season is lost. Case in point, Tom McDonald saying the club understands that every game is important given our r23 debacle last year (after losing to the Saints). Club is in dreamworld.

It’s sad coming here to our home and watching us serve up crap, cmon boys lift!

EXACTLY like the Saints game. If they kick another 2-3 goals in a row we then find ourselves in the same position playing catchup.

This team does not learn. We are still are own worst enemy.

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
