His call, i wouldn’t touch them

If it's true Preuss wants to come to Melbourne, he's taking the alternative option to Kent...come to a successful club but possibly not play too many games in the seniors. I'm not sure that's a wise plan for him (but good for us).

Kent has had his opportunities and seems prone to injury.

He clearly wants out, so let him go.

After 5 years, time is up.

I think it will be a 4th. Players like Kent aren't worth much in a trade.

Can he be traded if he is out of contract?

I suspect if  a trade is required it is a nominal trade in that Saints will offer us a pick that we will not use.

Was he really getting opportunities here? After his hamstring in Rd 5 he was barely in contention until the WC game. I know it was a tough side to break into but that's likely exactly why he's going.

It has to be a trade or he is de-listed.

I'd say it will be a 4th rounder, but who really knows.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Saints don't currently have a second OR third round pick, as both have been traded.

Their current highest pick after the first round is 4th round, pick 57.

Yep on reflection I'm dreaming. Saints pick 57 will probably get it done and move on.

Yep. In addition, with the prospect of being involved in complex trades such as a Hogan one, Mahoney and Viney will want to spend precisely zero minutes on guff trades. They’ll turn up to the trade table with St Kilda with a pen ready to sign whatever is put in front of them, say “hey look everyone, we look after our players, even when they’re fringe players wanting to leave”, and get on with actual business.

Ugh. Saints 3rd probably is a bit rich... I'm thinking Kent and swap their second for our second or something like that.

Strangely I can see him in a St.Kilda jumper too.

Geez if Kent and hogan are going that's pretty much a quarter of the list gone. Don't know what to make of it tbh?

And three quarters of the injuries

Think we should at least inquire about a pair of Jacks.

Lonie - a far from perfect footballer but would be an option in the crumbing small forward role. Small, not blistering pace and a little soft but he has smarts. Would be about a straight swap for Kent

Newnes - long kicking wingman who Saints fans really dislike after this year. Would probably need a pick thrown in with Kent

Just had a baby. Probably wants a longer term contract than we are willing to offer. More likely to get to the midfield with the Saints, which apparently is something he wants. Good luck to him. I think he can be a handy player for them and I hope his body holds up.

Be surprised if we don't get offered, and accept, a 3rd rounder for him.

I hope the club aren't to generous and don't take anything higher than a low 3rd rounder.

Kent isn't worth more than their pick 57.

Are you being fair dinkum? We'll go out of business with thinking like this.

Melbourne: Kent to Saints & Pick 48 to North

St Kilda: Lonie to North & Pick 57 to Melbourne

North Melbourne: Preuss to Melbourne & Pick 64 to St Kilda

Melbourne gain Preuss & 57 for Kent & 48

St Kilda gain Kent & 64 for Lonie & 57

North Melbourne gain Lonie & 48 for Preuss & 64

You started it.

Severely overrating Kent.  He's just not that good.

I can understand the sentiment but you need to consider what we offer vs the Saints.

He can refuse a one year or a one plus one deal from us (would you offer more) and stand out thus allowing himself to be picked up by the Saints in the second draft (whatever it's called these days). No one is likely to poach him.

This is one where we can and need to be generous just like Freo were with us and Balic last year.

Really? I didnt get to watch as many neutral games as I normally do this year. Why have the fans turned on him?

Bye, and thanks for the goal against West Coast Kenty.

If St Kilda have a lower fourth rounder than ours I’d suggest just a swap of fourth round picks.

can we swap fifth and sixth rounders...

my simplistic understanding is that the draft continued ad infinitum until all clubs had passed

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
