Collinwood had Cox.

Port have Dixon, Westoff, Ryder, Marshall.

dixon, marshall, westhoff, ryder, r gray, wingard, s gray, motlop, rockliff and boak generally make up their forward structure, with generally a 5 man forward line at any given time as they play a structure not too dissimilar to us

(also, given the quality and intensity of those players that rotate through forward line for them, it's hardly a surprise that watts is out at the moment)

i'm more interested in who they'll match up on t mac, hogan, melksham, etc. as we should - theoretically - have an advantage in our forward line as their backline is quite inexperienced, with jonas likely to miss again with a hamstring, hartlett out for the year, and pittard and hombsh the only relatively experienced players out there, despite some talented kids in howard, darcy byrne-jones and dan houston in particular

it should be a cracking game

I have been reading that Dion Johnston has been playing well off half back for Casey.  Could he come in for Vince?

He could but wouldn't it be better against a team from whom we have less difficulty forging a win for his initiation to this level, as he isn't quite equal, for example to an Oskar Baker (also untried) I am told?

Makes the midfield battle crucial then 'what'...'Andrew' was easier...

Sounds like 3 of Tyson, Stretch, Garlett and Petty will get the nod.

So on that basis:

In - Tyson, Garlett and Petty

Out - Spargo (dropped not rested), Hannan, Pedersen.

We're lacking a third key foward/back up ruck so T Mac will have to take a couple of centre bounces a quarter,.

If the "ins" are only coming from Tyson, Stretch, Garlett and Petty, I can't see how Pedersen gets omitted. Structurally he'll still be needed. If Petty plays, I would expect one of the nominal defenders to miss (ie, one of Vince, Lewis, Salem, Hibberd, Jetta, J Smith). Of that group, I would suspect Vince is the most likely.

Tyson, Garlett and Stretch would be putting pressure, I would have thought, on Spargo and Hannan.

Nice words from Goody about Watts, too.

sure does

gawn - oliver - viney - jones - brayshaw - harmes - tyson (possibly) - vince as a tagger on ebert or wines (maybe) - fritsch on the outside - hogan, t mac, anb, melksham, hannan rotating up to the contest

ryder - wines - ebert - powell-pepper - wingard - rockliff - polec on the outside - robbie gray, westhoff, boak, motlop rotating up to the contest

For those discussing possible defensive chances, Petty is a much stronger chance over Keilty this week, Petts got a mention in the presser and Decs crook

Hi @Drunkn167

If Petty was to debut, do you think he would cope OK at this stage considering what you've seen?

Yeah I think so. He was the Top under 18 defender in the SA leagues before being drafted and I think he’d be able to step up well, especially in his home state

Just saw Goodys presser.

Im thinking Petty is a lock for this week and I don’t think Tyson will play.

It also seems Goody is happy with Gatletts form, so I think he comes in.

They said up to 3 changes Tyson will be the 3rd.

As BBP said IN: Petty, Garlett, Tyson

OUT: Spargo, Hannan, Pedersen

This is how I think the match ups will work:

Dixon, Weston, Ryder and Marshall Vs Lord Nev and the rest of the defence can play as a loose man.

In Nev we trust!!

I can’t see this happening as it will make our forward half to slow.

HF: Neal-Bullen, Hogan, Petracca

F: Garlett, T.McDonald, Melksham

Doesn't look too slow to me.

I think it showed against Collingwood that we are still a little slow, so I think making those changes will exacerbate it

Did you know at 1.55 a couple weeks back which Melbourne had shown up against the Bulldogs?

Yes. Maybe I have a poor memory but I seem to remember Jeffy putting in some shockers in the wet.

On the flip-side, Tyson.

Garlett makes the forward line quicker and Port aren't as fast as the pies.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
