Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

True but we do match up very well vs Port.  Have beaten them comfortably the last couple of times, include by 40 points at Adelaide Oval.

Im more confident of winning this game than I was of winning on Queens Birthday.

If coaches still don't know how to win (games) or a flag (for that matter) in modern footy, they need to watch the Tige's win today

Numbers, numbers, numbers and more numbers

As a forward he’s a poor shot on goal, he should be playing consistent midfield by now. But that’s just me, I see his talent but am frustrated by him

The speed, smarts and discipline of those Tiger forwards create their great pressure, but it's back up by a midfield that spread hard and cover the outlets.

I think at some stage we'd be wise to give Petracca that midfield spreading lesson.

Also watching Richmond today I couldn't help but think Spargo is outperforming Jack Higgins and would be excellent in that role for Richmond, yet they also have Castagna, Rioli and Butler.

We have ANB (who's more up the ground anyway), Petracca and Hannan.

And the Cats had Parfitt, Gregson, McCarthy and Parson's all in the team to chase and pressure.

We need a heap more defensively from our smalls so we can lock it in forward against the good teams.

put viney on wines. get garlett in there. keep spargo & trac in too. not sure about pedo and t smith.. not sure about the backline. think if we can get on top in the midfield and get out to a lead, we will be ok.. lewis and vince need to deliver smarter. maybe vince dropped for frost? i'd be ok with petty coming in, but frost has done the job before and this is a huge game.

State leagues reports that both Watts and Trenners performed strongly for the Magpies.

It would be excellent if they both fronted up against us on Friday night.

I like this option King!  Wines is, by a country mile, their best player and in fab form right now.  My only issue is im not sure Tracc has the mental ability right now as he is very much in a loose checking mindset (mostly) and loves to receive and go on the outside.  I agree he needs educating though and play some more serious roles through the middle if he is to become a very good or great player vs just a handy one.

Also Nev on Motlop please, who is also having a very good run at the moment.

I still think we probably lose if we keep those two relatively quiet but the scoreboard (%) will be a little more respectable.  At the G it would be a coin flip.  The umps will give them at least 4 goals along the way (minimum) which will be the difference, even if we get the above right on the night.  If we don''t quieten those two and we leave the likes of Pedders / Hannan in i reckon we might be looking at 40 odd points.

I reckon we play Adelaide oval nett than the G right now.

Polec is a havoc machine, ball winner, astute disposer of the ball so he must be stopped. Westoff slams us, frequently as Mr Fixit across the ground. Wines and Gray - give them Viney and Jetta, respectively. The rest we should handle.

I've changed my mind re: changes this week.

I think we need a couple more talls to come in this week. Smith wasn't bad, but we desperately need some more height in our backline. Oscar could be rag-dolled by Dixon if Port get easy ball.

Pederson just doesn't do enough for me. Sure he can take a clunk, but everything else he does is so average. Doesn't provide pressure, doesn't use the ball smartly and just doesn't have footy smarts.

I'd like one of Smith or Weideman in. I'd like to try Petty as another tall defender and I want Garlett to come in to our side with a really defined role.

Ins: Petty, Smith and Garlett

Outs: Vince, Pederson, Harmes

I thought Harmes was very very poor in a few key areas against Collingwood. It would allow for Tom Mac to play more on the wing and become a threat. I think we could worry them with our height.

But again, it'll all come down to who gets on top in the midfield. We need to come out breathing fire.

Queens birthday feels so long ago. Everyone was as bad as each other minus a couple... I think Garlett needs to come back in, we’ve missed a bit of presence on the ground inside 50. He makes things happen from literally nothing & that’s what we need travelling interstate on the big stage. Spargo makes way for mine. I would also bring in Tyson & actually play him in the middle where he’s most damaging, we’ve been beaten in the clearances 2 weeks in arow.

IN: Garlett, Tyson

OUT: Spargo, Harmes

That really is a mixed bag of gross change at a time when stabilisation of midfield and attack is required. Dixon can be managed by the backmen working together better than what was done against the Filth.

I prefer your report.

I found this for Friday.

Friday 22 June

Adelaide area

Partly cloudy. High (70%) chance of showers, most likely later in the day. Light winds becoming north to northwesterly 15 to 20 km/h during the morning.

Vince and Harmes have both been poor in big games. Harmes is so bad defensively, looks great on the counter but had no appetite to work hard the other way.

Vince has been serviceable at best in our string of wins and we can't play both him and Lewis in the same backline. I'd rather bring in another tall. And I've stated my reasons for Pederson.

Something has to change. We've played a very similar team and set-up for a while. Port are another tough challenge. I want to see some players challenged. Too many are in cruise mode.

Weed for the Pedestal.

For those who follow Casey, anyone knocking down the door there?

Hell, no. Weed is too great a risk as he just runs around the action looking mildly interested. He needs at least another year in the twos to find his strengths and deploy these on the field with consistency.

Did you watch him in his games in the seniors earlier this year?

Far from just "running around the action looking mildly interested", he was leading up at the ball and presenting as a marking target better than ever.

He adds more than Pedersen did on Queen's Birthday.

It might be T Smith who gets recalled, but I'd certainly prefer Weideman to Pedersen.

Stop Polec, RGray====Victory #9

Too simplistic IMO.

If their midfield gets on top of ours like Collingwood's did, we'll lose, even if we can quell Polec and Gray.

Why would you play TMac anywhere outside of the forward 50? He is dominant there at the moment. If anything I feel we need to have just TMac and Hogan as our tall forwards and play them there permanently.

Hannan has been poor for 3 weeks

Agreed. He was OK against Crows and Bulldogs and managed to get on the end of some goals by slipping out the back. I thought he was very ordinary against Collingwood.  Only reason I can see him being kept in is as a marking option outside of Tmac/Hogan/Trac especially with Pederson and Bayley playing further up the ground now. But he certainly hasn't been performing well in the air.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
