Yes but i'm saying if Elliot isn't there they have more room available and possibly more likely to hang on to Tom

2nd round pick is fair. Just get it done quickly for that and move on to other less certain movements.

Langdon will be the most important pick up of our offseason. Running power, pace, finds the ball, puts in defensively, perfect fit for us.

Agreed. Get it done and move onto finding a small forward so we do not have to spend the entire 2020 watching ANB butcher the damn ball!

The thing that really excites me about this guy is that his last 4 games of the season were at a very high quality.

He averaged the following:

Disposals - 29.5

Marks - 6.5

Tackles - 2

Goals - 1.25

Fantasy Points - 111.25

He could be the steal of this trade period if he continues his trajectory as an outside mid.

Langdon for pick 22 is fair. He is and will be a very good pickup.  Has the outside run that we desperately need.

I think there was some mention that the Dockers have an academy guy this year expected to go in the teens, so they may prefer a 2nd round pick next year which would work perfectly.

But yes I'd happily trade pick 22 this season.

What are everyone's thoughts on trading pick 22 for a player that:

1) averages 25 touches/ 6 marks a game,

2) kicks a goal every second week,

3) is a genuine winger perfectly suited to the MCG

4) is one of the best runners in the business:

5) and has played 43 of the last 44 games.

WHO ARE YOU THINKING OF ??

Amazing that there’s even any question if pick 22 is “fair”. Established AFL quality in exchange for a lottery ticket. It’s the noest of brainers ever for me.

At least we’ve learned from the Melksham and Hibberd trades and aren’t screaming “overs!!!”

Yep, second round picks have been pretty good for our best 22 in the last few years.

We will have him in a couple of days.

I get the feeling that Bell might be trying to mend a few bridges from last year and show that he will trade reasonably to then put the pressure on elsewhere, like St.Kilda.

The Bell end knows that Langdon is out of contract and can go to the draft. If hes being nice thats the only reason.

It's a toss up between him and DerWayne as to who is the biggest jerk.

Dwayne, by quite some stretch.

Yeh until injury, poor form or otherwise strikes.

Remember that time our list was rated number one by champion data going into this year?

I remember.

We finished second last.

Much of champion data as well as any isolated statistical analysis is about as useful as an accordion player on a deer hunt.

Remember how we all laughed at Champion Data when they rated Collingwood's midfield as the best in the league after 2017?

With Langdon and Tomlinson we increase our running power, Langdon has far greater speed but picking up a couple of two way running types clears a big void in our game last season.

Greater run and spread  opens up many options across the ground

Very happy with this @ 22.  Now for a speedy small forward or two.  Alot of whispers around that we are now into Butler but who knows.  The circus rolls on.

It's Richmond's system and team pressure that makes average player look good. Not got a lot of interest in Butler out of that system.

As with others, Langdon appears a very good fit. Also amazed how players pick up their form when their contracts are up for renewal.

anyone know what they are demanding for him, whatever they are we should halve it, (if they refuse) pull out of negotiations publicly, wait for them to make their last minute offer, um and arrr for as long as we can, make a few more deals, and come back with one pick less than what they asked for.

freo we want pick 13

melb you can have pick 26

freo no

melb no

freo ok we will take pick 26

melb sorry we trading that pick we only have 27 now, take it or leave it

It doesn't seem fair. Not for Freo anyway. I rate him at around pick 15 - 20. So in my opinion we will be getting a steal if we only pay pick 22.

agreed

same thing with the aints' bruce being probably worth 'more' than a pick in the mid-30s and zak jones being worth more than that for the swans too

it's all swings and roundabouts and all deals will happen tho i reckon

Agreed but it is also able to work because of the recruiting side D58.

More players with leg speed = quicker closing speed = less time/space to decide/dispose = pressure cooker = increased turnovers.

And what are the Tigers the best at in terms of how they score? ....converting off turnovers AND keeping the ball in motion and getting the ball going forward (field position).  Whether that's through forward handballs or just knocking / slapping / spiking the ball on etc.  The most meters gained by any club in 2019.

Tigers also able to capitalise on their pressure / turnover / meters gained game with a very potent twin tall/quality small forward set up that pressure well at ground level.  Disposal skills also helping generally along with a rock solid defence behind the ball as we know.

There is definitely a method/system but it is very much attuned to taking advantage of their player strengths.  While there are no doubt many players better than Butler on their list, i would not discount his ability to bring some of the above attributes having been well drilled in the same method / system.

Even if he doesn't star, to some degree, he would also bring something else that might come in very handy as an opposition coach...inside intel / knowledge of what is probably the best system doing the rounds (for now anyway).

Exactly right PSD.

Add two elite endurance runners who can provide switching options offensively and gut run defensively to cover opposition switches and tic tac options.

Combine with a list that comes back six weeks earlier, has fewer surgeries and players in rehab and gets a high percentage of sessions under their belt and get the miles in the legs.

Equals a completely different team able to prevent easy opposition ball movement and transition and run out quarters and games.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
