Langdon will probably finish top 5 in Freo's BnF behind Fyfe, Walters and Hill. Not too snappy for play pick 54

No but I wouldn’t overrate Langdon. Freo supporters can not wait to see the back of him.

Yeah sure,

I work with and have quite a few mates who go for Freo, all of whom rate Langdon quite highly. I haven’t spoken to one who has said they can’t wait to get rid of him. Odd.

Yeah my brother is a member and is gutted, whilst he's not the most damaging by foot absolute gut runner, who he believes is only going to get better

Cool. Now, have we booked him a barber's appointment yet?

I’m not sure Christian Salem will require an appointment.

He’ll get the clippers out during the first weights session - just as Langdon does his first rep of the bench press.

I don’t have a brother who is a member, but was going off the comments of Freo supporters on social media and other forums, just seems like he [censored] it up a bit. Happy to give him a go on the basis we aren’t paying overs.

With Cognilio off the market, Langdon becomes one of the better players known to be on the market this off season.

Who, according to the Sun, has chosen us as his club of choice. No it doesn't make it a fait accompli, but it goes bloody close to it.

Pick 20 will get it done. Clean and simple.

I live in WA mate, they are fickle lot over here and turn very quickly on players who decide they are moving.

Eagles supporters turned very quickly on Judd, when he said he was going home. They fail to acknowledge he looked after them when he could have walked through the PSD, which Carlton wanted him to do

I agree with you about not paying overs, pick 21 is about right

This will not be clean, its Freo were talking about here. The Lawyer will want his moment in the sun come November.

He may well do and I expect it to drag on but pick 21 is fair Suns are in salary cap strain having been forced to pay overs to keep young talent so pick 2 in PSD is always there if Bell wishes to posture

We should do to Freo what they did to us last year with Hogan and downgrade our pick 20 and force them to take a later pick for Langdon.

Let’s trade pick 20 and 38 to Essendon for pick 29 and 31. Then force them to take 29.

Nah, just take him in the PSD.

jeez, you are a punitive bloke aren't you.

I can't help but see this deal as inextricably linked to Hogan's last year. Bell, in a new position came in and did his theatrics for the media, but remember it is a closed market, clubs deal with clubs year in year out, hence good relationships need to be maintained and would be maintained behind closed doors - sometimes you give a little (or what appears to be a lot) and then you get something back in another year.

The problem is that he seems to negotiate, not like a modern lawyer, but like a suburban litigation solicitor from the 1970s who seems to think it’s really clever to not concede a thing and play a game of tedious WW1 style brinkmanship, with the result that no one gets a good deal including, critically, Freo.

Fingers crossed, common sense, commercial acumen, and just general decency prevails here. Surely our first second rounder is eminently fair - get it done early, which allows each club to focus on other potential deals.

I love the idea, but in true Melbourne fashion, I could see Gold Coast taking him instead and we miss out entirely.

Then we should offer up the Wagner brothers to GC for pick 100 in good faith that GC won't take Langdon in the PSD (if that draft actually exists anymore)

I feel as though we've dealt with Gold Coast well over the years, so I see no reason why if the PSD came up that we couldn't come to some sort of agreement with them.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
