I wanted Papley as well, but he's likely going to Carlton.  Let's see what they pay for him and that might explain why we aren't chasing him.

Carlton has become more of a destination than us - what an amazing fall given the expectations, respectively, at the start of this year.

I think they just have more cash to throw around given retirements and the fact they have a young list.

Carlton had a older and more experienced team than us on the weekend and have had for most of the year.

Maybe last weekend. But don't forget we had Tom McDonald, Steve May & Neville Jetta all out for the remainder of the year.

Those three would take up a bit of salary space.

Herald sun reporting Dees win race to sign him and he has agreed in principle to a deal.

No mucking around by Ed if the article is accurate, skipped mad Monday to ramp up talks. Good on him for eagerly wanting to be a Demon. Just get a deal done now.

Nothing speaks more 'Melbourne' than a recruit with a man bun

More Fletcher Christian Queue than a man bob...

Nah. Buns are a prerequisite for entry into Revolver.

This is good.

Straight through the PSD and #$^&  Freo.

AFL have done us over by giving GCS a priority pick so it's time to play hard.

HE was pick 54 in his draft year. Out of contract. Third rounder and something fringe the other way. Is that what gets it done?

No.

Happy to trade TMac for pick 53?

No but I wouldn’t overrate Langdon. Freo supporters can not wait to see the back of him. He can’t hit a target, so will fit right in and we will probably hand over our first round pick for Langdon and their first round. Pick 3 wil go on to be a star and we will bank another middle of the roader and soon find out Langdon is a butcher.

Some talk Brandon Matera may also look elsewhere, showed this year he was a dangerous small forward. i wonder if we could get him as well?

I will actually stop supporting Melbourne if we bring him in. He is the worst.

Having dealt with a few Freo fans, I can confidently say that is not the case.

The kid can play. Turns it over occasional but  gets the ball a lot and gains meters.

Matches up well with Sidebottom who is  considered by many as an elite outside player.

Langdon is a gun mate. Pick 20 will get it done but Freo will probably attempt to bargain for more

Yeah sure,

This is a very good get from the club who has been very keen on him for a few years now.  Of course a lot comes down to what we hand over, but he is a high quality player with many of the attributes we lack.

With Cognilio off the market, Langdon becomes one of the better players known to be on the market this off season.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
