Look at his backline. All small running backs. The weekly team should be as close to an actual team as possible, so a minimum of two tall backman. Lever should have been in that side without a doubt.

I'm OK winning the whole thing by stealth.

Like a few others have stated, I'm waiting for us to grind out a close win against a quality side in form and maintain the rage through the whole season before I will be satisfied.  One of the problems is that there really are not many quality, in-form sides I rate.  Geelong at Geelong perhaps, Sydney, West Coast and dare I say it, pehaps Collingwood are about the only games we are yet to play that I can really see testing us from the perspective of quality opposition.  I have probably under rated Richmond to an extent to date, but also think we are well and truly capable of beating them.  

We continue to improve, whilst much of the old gaurd fall away or stand still.  Ablett is showing his age, wear & tear and hasn't really made Geelong a better side.  Happy to see the Hawthorn resurgence stall at the moment.  Never really rated Adelaide anyway and it would be nice to think that Sydney are slowing falling away from what they once were, though they are the side that most concerns me could yet come good.  I also have a feeling that GWS might get they her act together in the back half of the season and make our final round game against them pretty compeditive, but their season should be well and truly over as far as finals are concerned by then.

Don't give two shiits what the media thinks of us.  If we can continue to bank wins over the next 4 - 6 weeks and then manage the players mindsets and physical condition comming into finals, that's where it's at for mind.  Whilst I do think we have a team that can beat any side and who over the last 5 weeks have put together more consistent good form than any MFC team I have watched, the premiship isn't won in May, so I'm quite ok with just taking each week as it comes and celebrating in retrospect.

And FWIW I don’t think anyone is potting us. EVERYONE is saying we are playing great footy. Some people just acknowledge that we still have to win another six games to even qualify for finals. There is still a long way to go. Let’s enjoy the ride.

We can't win with some the media:  

• If we continue to win by 10+ goals they will say the opposition were...(fill in the gap - undermanned, inexperienced, had an off day etc). 
• If we win by a few goals they will say 'see they weren't so good after all'.
• If we have a bad loss well let the media scorn begin

so best to ignore them.

Tbh, I hope we continue to win with the ruthless tenacity we have shown in the last month be it by one point or 100 points.   If we lose I want us to go down fighting.

But I also hope we don't peak too early - we don't want to run out of puff and need to save our best till September.  That is what got the Bulldogs and Tigers home and what Clarkson always managed his team for - it is all about how we play in September.

But on the same night that some of them were saying those things about us they were pumping up Esssendon's tyres for beating an injury riddled and extremely out of form GWS conveniently forgetting that the Bombers lost to the same team we pumped by 109 points a week apart.

I get that. I'm just not used to being happy about Footy. I need to be angry about something. ?

No problem with the media pumping up our tyres as it will lead to more attendances and better exposure for sponsors.

What will be very damaging is if we get pumped up and don't deliver ... not talking premierships.. just the home and away season.

A crowd of 90k on QB is worth a lot of money if we can swing it. The kind of money that might make it easier not to sell games to NT.

We have  to sell home games, unless we have 60k + members, like it or not pokies earn us 10 million revenue a year, so where are going to make that extra 10 mill from? hand outs, a white Knight, sponsorship in a over crowded market, sponsorship is going to fall, companies are investing their ad money somewhere else like facebook people's wages are not keeping up with the cost of living.

I’m sure our football team and their coaches would care less about having “media recognition”. A mature and confident side has belief in themselves, their teammates and their coaches - and therefore do not need validation from the media. It’s only the supporters that seem to require this recognition/validation - from the very same media personalities that are so often bagged on this site. Why would you seek acknowledgement from someone you don’t respect? It simply wreaks of our insecurity resulting from 53 years of premiership drought.

This forum provides more detail and slices of current footballing matters than all of the media put together.

Who cares what the media pundits think??  The only thing that interests me is how well we play in the next round.  If anything I'd rather they (the media) keep doing what they are doing so that the club always has a point to prove... better than getting too complacent.

I think given its so early in the season, we have time to peak, come down and hit it our straps again in Sept if things go right for us. Whats happening now is that the whole club is starting to believe in themselves, the game plan and each other. We're a club that needs big doses of that to go further. I think We're starting to realise we're a real chance. Planting the seed of a dream in their hearts. It will keep everyone super focused and ticking all the little 1% boxes that need to be ticked in terms of physical conditioning .....( the type that Nathan Jones, and others of his ilk,  tick whether  winning or losing). So, if thats so, aside from anything else it builds great habits for the future.

Like many of us, the media has seen too many false dawns with Melbourne.  Some will hold off judgement until they've seen something they can't deny.  Some will take a very long time to get there and will still dish out a back-hander on the way through ("So they should be good with all the AFL help/early draft picks/etc etc")

Let's just keep winning and playing a brand of footy that is super attractive to watch. 

We absolutely should be keeping things in perspective. Agree fully with those that are urging us to do so. Also agree with those pointing out our approach - and in particular goody's - is very measured and calm.  

From the beginning of the year Goody has,as is his somewhat annoying wont, being repeating certain ideas over and over. One of them is that the team that wins the flag will be the one that learns and develops the most over the whole season.

This points to how long the season is, how many tactical and strategic changes etc get made (often subtle ones i suspect) and the importance of having a learning environment. This focus gives me real confidence in Goody and where we are heading.

One thing for sure is that does not feel like a false dawn in the way that win many years back against the swans when smashed them at the g proved to be (Rossy biggest loss as a coach IIRC - he said how awesome we would be). Th pieces of the puzzle are in place and we can all see just how good we really are.

What does annoy me is how the media tries to build up some of the rubbish of the competition.

Take Carlton for example - by not asking for a priority pick they have 'gained plenty of respect', according to Jon Anderson, and he names a heap of their young players (some who haven't even played a senior game) who have shown something for the club.  This is only 8 days removed from us thumping them by 109 points.  They are getting credit they absolutely don't deserve, but knocking back a potential priority pick puts all that in the shade.

 

Having watched very favourable media (as it should have been) media coverage about Sunday’s game, last night and this morning, there appears to be a supporter backlash. Basically much of the audience are saying they are sick of listening about how good the Dees are and what a superior gameplay and list we have. 

Even people like David King whom I regard generally as an authoritative AFL commentator started his piece on SEN this morning saying he has been instructed not to talk about Melbourne anymore as the audience are reacting. Sounds like the Eddie and Pies mafia to me. 

I guess this is also a reaction of the AFL competition to the fright they have got from the Dees superior performance over the last month.They are struggling to respond.  

May it always be so...

Yep im sensing the same thing alot of jealous, envious people around.

Yes let our performance absolutely do the talking. Let us to continue to scare them by our performance on the field. 

However, I think we are missing what scares them. If you listen to the folks from champion data they say what the Demons are doing is quite unprecedented in term of their KRAs. 

They cannot reconcile how they might respond. 

The other thing the media companies are doing is to say games which are very onesided is leading to lower television ratings. 

Guess who is the biggest culprit?
