Hope we're one of the first in line. Gun. Outside pace, breakaway pace from the stoppages and ball magnet. Would compliment our midfield beautifully.

If Hogan goes we need to chase him, Whitfield or Kelly and throw some more $ at Gaff.

Yup. We need to turn the Hogan pick or picks into a ready made star.

Yep, the time is now. We are entering our window, time to bring in ready made quality to join our list. The time is now

Would Love this guy on our List any chance of Sheil, May and Pruess all in red and blue next year??

I'll be shot down for this, but I don't rate him as highly as others.  Has good pace and is a good accumulator, but he isn't a real good user of the footy and, to me, isn't the best at running both ways.

Carlton, Essendon, Saints, Hawks etc will be front of the queue.  I haven't seen us mentioned at all when his name comes up.  That doesn't mean we won't have a crack, but I'd say that if he's asking for over a million a season that it might put us out of the running from the start.

If Hogan goes, THEN ITS ALL IN FOR SHIEL

If Freo give Hogan $1mil a year for 5 years, then Shiel is worth the same. Shiel would walk into us as the best (or equal best player with Maxy and Clarry)

whatever we get for Hogan  (say Freo 1st pick 2018 and future 1st pick 2019)  we give to GWS for Shiel

its operation Shiel if Hogan goes

Agree with you Wise. Whitfield is the one I would like. Unlikely though

He isn’t worth 1.2, but he still is a bloody good player

He can’t kick and doesn’t do the defensive stuff. He looks flashy when he runs through the middle but he doesn’t do the hard stuff we value so he won’t be coming to us

He's asking for mega dollars and to ask for that coin you need to be a top 10-20 player in the Comp to justify your wage. We are better off chasing better value elsewhere or paying for real quality. Gaff at 900k might be worth it for example.

Agree with all of those posters above.  I won't quote you all!

Clubs like Carlton, Essendon and St. Kilda will happily overpay for him as he is a good midfielder who they believe will put them over the top.  Will he?  Maybe, maybe not.  But I don't think he is a gun of the competition who is worth over a million a season.  Lesser clubs will still pay that because they are desperate to add someone of his talent, but we don't need to do that.

Kelly and Whitfield are the ones, I agree Shiel is overrated, he butchered the ball this year, especially in front of goal. Let him milk other clubs salary caps

wants $1.2m a year for five years

overrated at that price

For that cash it sounds like he is off to one of - Saints, Blues or Norf

We need to service our needs like we did in the Lever trade, needed a intecept defensive player so we went out and got one.

I'd take Kelly over Whitfield but both the type of player we need, that would be a cherry on top type outcome.

Shiel wouldn't be servicing an immediate need like Lever, just stockpiling a need we already have.

For an apparent gun he certainly butchers it a lot whenever I see him. Not saying he’s not but we need an elite user.

Gone to Hawks or Carl I feel anyway, Haw if he wants success, Carl if he wants what they're offering him.

Wonder if we are interested in Zac Williams?

Did anybody who says he's  a gun actually look closely at him at all?

Gee for the price he is asking no thank you, his an alright player but not great player.

Is Kelly up for trade this year?

Not sure why this guy isn’t generating more discussion? Word is we are into Shiel up to our ears and will be right up the front of the bus for his signature if the right cards fall our way (especially if Hogan goes).

Exactly what we need. Blistering outside run and link up midfielder with good skills and a bit of healthy arrogance to boot.

Would love to see him in red and blue.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
