That’s my primary concern, the mental side of things. They’ll be brimming with confidence, and we’re still considered to be mentally fragile enough that every lower team targets their fixture with us as a bankable 4 points. I’m hoping we’ve overcome that particular handicap (which I think we have this year with our trend of beating teams that were ranked below us). Sunday will be more evidence either way.

And this weekend plus a few weeks later against Dogs and Pies is what we need to change.

The margin against St Kilda flattered us but equally we should have beaten the Suns by 100 plus. Time to get arrogant in a Hawthorn way.

Are u on drugs the margin against st kilda flattered them not us they got 2 junk time goals in the last 2 mins to flatter them, and don't say if they kicked straight it would be closer, they miss goals against everyone, they did it all last year and this. I don't get how so many rate saints every time we play them, we have beaten them so easily over the last 3 games, and in 2 of those games they kick junk time goals  in the last few mins to flatter them. Carlton are so weak up back they don't have anyone to play on both hogan or Tom McDonald.

If both Cam and Tim come in, and both whack someone and get a week, will someone in the "changes" thread write;

Pedders, Bull (Suspension)?

Try the veal...

Can’t believe the bluebaggers supporters.  They beat druggies and now they are up and about.  One supporter couldn’t get his mates to go to a match- now has 6 seats for Sunday and about 10 idiots that want them.   I dislike playing Carlton, and hope we smash them.

Pedersen can just as easily play his role.

K'noath!

Final changes-

In: Viney, T.Smith

Outs: Tyson (Omitted) Weideman (Injured)

YEAH BOYS GET HYPE BULL IS PLAYING I TOLD YOUSE

Dear Simon, the current forward / ruck structure was working fine. Why have you not replaced Weideman with Pedersen, so that he can back up Gawn in the ruck? I get that Smith is in better form, but he can't ruck. Now you'll either go back to your stupid idea of rucking Harmes, or you'll drag McDonald away from the forward line. Both ideas are just plain dumb. Please get your act together before you cost us more wins. Signed, Poita.

He’s not though, Bulls form in the VFL has been unbelievable and higher then Pedo so of course they’re going to pick the guy that’s playing much better footy.

Hmmmm 3 guys with under 10 games experience with Hunt, Tyson, Pedersen and Gartlett in the 2s. Hope Goody knows what he's doing we're meant to be playing for finals not in development mode!

Dude you are vastly underestimating just how good Bull has been playing, he’s been at a higher level then Pedo. Sometimes teams structure doesn’t matter when you want your best 22 out on the field. The coaches know what they’re doing, take a damn chill pill.

Dear Poita,

It's no surprise to see a veil of negativity coming from you despite the team's good form. I'll have you know that Tim Smith actually played as the second ruck after half time against Geelong after Max went down injured. He had 3 hitouts, which is just one less than Pedersen has averaged in his past six games.

Yours,

Goody

Love this, picking the best team structure rather than just picking Viney for Weid.  Each to their own whether you pick Smith or Pedo, but i like that they have a structure and are picking specifically for it. Earlier in the year we were chopping and changing entirely on players form and wound up with Hogan and Garrett as the only 2 genuine forwards and we couldn't kick a goal.

Ah yeah they did? The teams coming off a few wins so they don’t want to change anything if they don’t have too but the best player in the 2’s has forced his way into the side

Is that your daily dose of being a 5yo ?

You might also consider that many, myself included would have thought like for like...then Cam made a sensible replacement for Weed.  Its not about supporters having a psuedo teenage crush on anyone... simply some look at what's on offer.

I wish Smith well. Who now pinch hits for Max ? Im not aware of Tim having done a lot.

This seems to require a rejig of the fab four's duties more than just a player swap.

That comes as a surprise to me given they were just bedding all of this in.

Dear Poita,

When MacDonald is in the ruck, there's a good chance Gawn will be resting in the forward line. Win-win

I picked him this week only because I thought they would want him to play second ruck and free up T Mac as they've been doing in previous weeks.  Happy for 'Bull' Smith to get his reward for great form at Casey.

@Drunkn167 and @Rusty Nails, I stand corrected re: selection.  Very happy for Smith to get a run and hopefully he can add to our flexible forward line in a positive manner when T Mac gives Gawn a chop out in the ruck!

Smith has been dominating and got a game... Viney is a given. Not sure who you think is hard done by but the coaches are backing themselves and the young blokes in.

Fristch, Hannan, OMac, Spargs and now Smith.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
