If the AFL website article is correct, he is either staying or coming to us. Other clubs seem to be out of the picture.

Yeah, how dare he rack up important touches and hit targets further down the field.  Just the player we don't need...

On a serious note, there was piece of play in that third term that summed up how good he is.  He got the ball on the half back flank, ran and took two bounces before hitting up Cripps 50 metres away to help set up a goal. It was great to watch.  He would look superb in the red and blue.

True.  Saty will tell you that until he is blue in the face.

Your opinion can be wrong, though, and it's not as if Gaff has been up and down this year.  He's having a sensational year and everyone, bar one, agrees.  It just seems as though he's sticking to his opinion out of stubbornness more so than actually believing Gaff is nothing but an accumulator.  That, plus he also lied a few times when he said Gaff had never won a B&F, then when he was corrected on that claimed that he has Eagles supporter friends who didn't rate him that highly the year he won it... which made no sense considering he said he'd never won one.

He hasn't exactly covered himself in glory on this topic.

CARLTON, North Melbourne and St Kilda should resist the temptation to bid for older or second-tier midfielders if attempts to lure gun free agent Andrew Gaff are unsuccessful.

They should instead put their chequebooks away and turn their attention to next year’s crop of out-of-contract and free agent stars, which includes some of the biggest names in the game.

The Blues, Roos and Saints have been desperate to add class to their midfield groups for some time.

All three clubs tried in vain to lure Josh Kelly home from Greater Western Sydney last year, while the Kangaroos also unsuccessfully dangled a $10 million, seven-year free agency offer at Richmond star Dustin Martin.

This year all three were linked with Jordan De Goey – the Roos again leading the way with a $5 million, five-year offer and the Saints not far behind them – before the explosive forward/midfielder re-signed with Collingwood last Sunday for two years.

All three remain in the race for Gaff, but face stiff competition from Melbourne, which shapes as his most likely new home, and Essendon.

The hard-running Eagle is also every chance to resist a move home to Victoria given West Coast looks well placed to go deep into the finals in the next few seasons.

If the 26-year-old re-signs with the Eagles – or if he enters free agency and signs with the Demons –  Carlton, North and St Kilda should resist the temptation to snare another midfielder in this year's market.

Its part of a wider story on the bottom teams chasing a 'big fish'.

He needs to slow down a tad. His price is surely rising, what would he be worth?

As much as we gave to Lever but over 5. Media have said opening price will need to be $4 million over 5.

How often does a player of his calibre remain unsigned this late into the season?

Very good chance that hes already committed to us.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
