Weid halved at least every contest that I saw. The two big marks he took in the last were as good as any in the match. That made me take note immediately. His kicking lacks power and accuracy, but as his confidence builds, so too will his game. I'd definitely keep him in the seniors and am excited to see his progress over the year.

Harmes frustrates me more than most in the team. He gets a fair bit of the ball but his use is often poor. I love his agression at the opposition, but he gives away a lot of 50/50 balls as well as numerous free kicks. I'm aware he's only played 50 games and has potential, so is also worth persisting with.

I think ANB is on thin ice, particularly if Trac is ready to return. Bernie might also need a spell soon.

Match ups and balance vs the Saints will be a determining factor as well

Petracca has posted today from hospital. Video of him in a hospital bed. There may be a chance he misses another match.

He’ll play. They said he would be in hospital getting monitored over the weekend, that’s why he didn’t play

All the talk around Weidemann is exactly the same talk around OMac 12 months ago. We need to get games into him now.

Nobody would drop OMac now. Get Weids to the same level and we’re another step closer to top 4.

Hogan could be rested. Looked sore and weary. Not ideal but Petracca comes in. Is Viney any chance at all?

No chance mate, still a couple of weeks away according to presser FYI

100% correct.

Supporters will always try and pick someone out to have a go at.

Got a knock to the knee.  It happened against the Tigers and got fit again.

If he recovered in 5 days, then he’ll be right   By next Sunday.

He loves kicking bags against the Saints.

I thought Hogan tmac n weid trio worked.

Too big to play all three in fwd 50 but Hogan, tmac take turns in the midfield n tmac  n weid to take turns in ruck.

Out: Weideman, ANB

In: Pedo, Petracca.

You have my vote Juzz although i would play whoever is in best form out of Pedders & T Smith.  With Smith having 31 possessions on the weekend he would get the nod there.

Pedders bringing a stack more experience and size.

Having said that Weids will go round again as it appears almost certain the FD have stamped both  Smith's & Pedder's papers (unless Weids goes down with an injury or suspension).  They could kick 5 goals in 3 successive matches and still not get a call up me thinks.

Hunt probably gets another go at redemption rather than chopping / changing but would want to show some big improvement in form against the Saints.  Had an ugly day along with Weids (his two clunkers about the only exception).  Was Hunt injured early or something?

It would be brave to keep blooding Weid when we desperately need to win the next 3. But we have a policy of giving at least 2-3 games to young players. Id love to see Bull Smith and Tracc in for Weids and Tyson. Tyson must have used his credits but maybe they are waiting for Jack Viney. IMO ANB and Harmes still have a life or two left as well, to play into form. If Hogan is out rested, then Smith is a real chance. Im still keen on Pedo but understand those that say he isnt the future.

Hogan will be managed carefully. Big guy doing a power of work and this will be our 3rd game in 11 days.

We will have a couple of changes based on that one would think

Got to keep playing Weid now, get games into him now that he’s starting to clunk some marks, any week now he’ll have a breakout game based on those marks today. A good block of games coming up for him to build confidence.

Beating a dead horse there 'Rusty'.

My opinion after he was dropped was that we wouldn't see Pedders again barring major injury. He is not an AFL level forward & his trump card as a mobile ruck had taken a turn for the worse, he'd lost his mojo.

Don't agree with you on Smith either, his papers are not stamped. They've moved him to a different role and it looks to be working. I think we could see him at AFL level maybe as early as next week depending on how Trac & hogan pull up.

I too was concerned that playing all three forward (and Max going down deep at times too) would mean that they would get in each other’s way, but it was rare to find more than two in F50.

Seemed to work well, and Weed certainly gained in confidence as the match went on.

The Bear, as much as he got the absolute best out of himself, is probably done.

I'm not sure if Jesse needs the protection that he (or Chris Dawes) provided anymore. He has well and truly established himself.

I have been his biggest fan but I reckon he stays in the Magoos. Give Weed a decent stretch as his current body shape doesn't have me petrified of him playing in the ruck or in bursts at CHF.

If ANB is covering all the ground they say he is covering, he must be running around like a headless chook. He goes out for Tracc.

I also hope that Tracc has given one of his bloody dogs away.

Probably Rjay.  I agree the FD has apparently gone all in on Weids.

I don't care who they pick from the 3 as long as they're in form and performing their role effectively.

It might come down to the fact that none of them are up to it.

If we want to play finals we can hardly afford  to carry any players on the premise they are a likely prospect if we just get enough games into them.

The Hawks haven't had the success they've had by folowing that line.  One or two of their debutants against the Saints the other night have been waiting / developing in the McGoos since 2014

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
