I can understand how social media and the instant access that fans and critics have to celebrities and sports stars can have a negative impact on those people.

The internet and anonymous (now not so anonymous with Facebook and Twitter) people bagging sports people is nothing new. People have been doing this on Fan sites for years. However with social media people now have direct access to the phones of these stars and they can be brutal and there aren't many jobs in the world where you receive instant and potential soul crushing feedback.

I feel for Jake and others who have copped it directly. We've all been critical of sports people but I don't think I've ever contacted one directly to their device to tell them that I hope they die in a fire.

Well done Jake. It's a huge problem in modern society. It's pretty sad to think there are people out there who get off on bringing people down behind the comforts of their keyboard.

Even worse when it's supporters of their own team and I've no doubt there are plenty amongst us here on DLand.

I said the same thing when Fasolo came out and discussed his depression which was partly due to social media. Be careful what and how you post , you have no idea how hurtful some of your comments can impact a person's life.

Agree with Jake, we all get heated and passionate so need to be respectful. I too quit social media apart from demonland as it was dragging me down and I don’t even play! No Facebook or Twitter anymore for me. Twitter is shocking, so many trolls and then you have journalists stoking the fire also.

But shouldn’t the club be educating the players to stay off social media, I’ve heard other clubs do so they should at least be monitoring it.

it was great to see Jake find some good form v Tigers, arguably our best. He’ll be a 10 year player and I don’t think he’ll let us down.

Well done Jake - some posters just don’t get it - they never will. The damage they are doing to their own players and their own club

Keyboard warriors negative individuals that post on nearly every thread - sad, sad, sad

Jake can be on social media as a Crow BUT when he is a Demon the “haters” force him to leave.

Some MFC fans need to hold their head in shame.

But such is life - carry on I’m sure you will.

I personally think it is pretty gutless attacking people on forums and any other form of social media.Heroes on a keyboard if you have something to say to someone say it to their face

It doesn’t just happen with the players either, plenty of supporters turn nasty on each other, there’s a few well known condescending, bullying types in here too who won’t accept others opinions. A good wake up call industry wide I reckon

Would have been interesting to read Crow posts when he decided to leave.

I'm sure there were plenty of haters & negative Nancy's....

This stuff is unfortunately not just restricted to our supporter base.

It's a scourge on society.

I highly doubt that trash was coming from Dee supporters. It was most likely crows fans attacking  his poorish form at the start of the season. Agree with all else though.

Yep plus it’s fuelled by Adelaide players like Tex last year and most recently Talias little snipe.

the venom that some supporters have for players who leave their clubs astounds me.

Many here still begrudge Scully any form of success. Time to move on.

I don't do most social media but I did read the article. It didn't mention MFC fans acting poorly towards Jake. Can you point out some tweets from Demon fans towards him causing damage?

I'm surprised any professional footballer uses social media.

It’s only a matter of time before the AFLPA sues a “supporter” or a website over this type of behaviour.

You are joking about it not coming from Dees supporters, try reading the rubbish that accompanies a pist by the Club

I was at Casey game at Richmomd 2 MFC supporters were bagging Wagner who wasn't even playing, pity he was sitting directly in front of them

Direct personal attacks on Twitter are a quantum leap from posters being critical of performances on a forum like Demonland.

Supporters have every right to be critical and call it as they see it. As soon as you get personal, you've overstepped the line. And if you are directly messaging athletes on Twitter, then you are messed up in the head.

Pity they don’t all shut off from antisocial media and concentrate on the game and nothing else in season.

Hope it pays Jake back in spades.

Hard to argue with that. Some of the stuff on Facebook makes me really question humanity.

Demonland has its share of negative posters, but I would say most of them are playing the ball, not the man.

Facebook on the other hand is a cesspit. Hard to imagine Twitter being much different.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
