Not enough finishers? Oh I forgot we got rid of our one good ball user. Top move that!!!

At the end of all the hard work if you aren't kicking enough goals PF it all comes to nought.  While Watts was a big NQR in terms of effort and choosing when to go, he could at least finish off and honor the hard work of others up the field and rarely coughed up the ball which meant we held on to it for longer in possession chains coming off HB instead of turning it over and having to chase bums all day the other way.  Certainly not irreplaceable by any means but, we didn't find a replacement.

I am sure that most us pre season had the North and Bears games pencilled in as wins.

As to the remaining four rounds of the first six games, Geelong, Hawks, Tigers and Essendon, I assessed them as 50/50 games and while I would have been happy with two wins out of four I was hoping for 3 out of 4.

Well to say the least we have started badly. Lose to Essendon and we will be 2-4. Given the horrific run home we have we would need to win the next five straight to have a good chance of making the eight. That would mean we turn at 7-4 at the bye and then have to win 6 post bye (a hard ask).

The only comfort I take about the coming game is that Essendon are as flaky as we are. Lose to them and the season is almost over. Scraping into the 8 on percentage doesn't do much for me.

4 winnable games coming up,  far too soon to call the season CB. If we win 3 of them we are right back in the mix.

There are good signs in amongst the rot we are seeing.

The defence finally stood up HB and the work ethic only dropped away in the last where our lack of running ability was exposed.

The skinny boundaries at Etihad might actually assist our lack of run/speed on the outside and spread and might work in our favor.

Apart from speed/spread/class on the outside, our other big issue is our inability to convert all the hard work.  A team can only work so hard in a match before it runs out of puff if you aren't hitting the scoreboard.

45 possessions per goal and 59 against the Hawks the week before must be exhausting work and the lack of conversion can only act as a huge team deflator at some point.

Which is why Pedders needs to come in for Weids this week.  We need goals and i'm afraid Weids is not the man for that right now.  He just continues to fail to impact here and that's what he is there for at the end of the day.  Bring him in for the 3 weeks following if Pedders doesn't perform.  I would also seriously consider Spargo for Jeffy who is horribly out of form although that's a huge roll of the die and not sure Spargo is ready yet.  Then again we ran with the Weids play this week so go figure.

We need some big trades at year's end to get some run/speed/spread as well as class finish around the ground and in front of the sticks if we are to make finals.

Winners are grinners and we need to win to make finals.  Goal scoring a must.  Get it done Demons.

Didn't think I would ever say this but Spargo for Garlett is perhaps worth a  try ... (at best Jeff has one more week before he gets an enforced rest)

Do any others think that Balic could be a smoky for inclusion? (Still don't understand whether he was injured, rested or whatever this round)

Clearly what we are doing now isn’t working so we need to shake-up the structure.

Our inability to convert forward 50 entries is a huge concern, less medium forwards and more marking targets with Hogan, Pedersen and Weideman.

Salem back to the backline to replace Vince.

Petracca predominantly forward.

Garlett on his last chance.

Frost in for his ability to take the game on, we were so stagnant last night.

Hibberd up the ground to get him involved more.

JKH probably a lucky inclusion.

Out: Stretch, ANB, Harmes, Vince, Kent (injured)

In: Frost, Hannan, Fritsch, Pedersen, JKH

FB: Jetta O. McDonald Salem

HB: Hunt Lever Frost

C:  Brayshaw Oliver Hibberd

HF: Petracca Hogan Fritsch

FF: Pedersen Weideman Melksham

Foll: Gawn Jones Tyson

Int: Wagner Garlett JKH Hannan

I'm going to say it again unfortunately we have to many good VFL/Local Comp players that will do OK at Casey but just are not up to AFL level. I start with Stretch (his old man would be disappointed) then Harmes, ANB, Wagner, Brayshaw followed by Garlett, Hunt, Vince and Hunt. The biggest problem we have is the guys to replace are not much better. Therefore I have no answers and seeing I have followed this rabble since 64 and paid up member I can only hope I see some effort, improvement, guts and determination before I go.

Need to realise after 5 rounds we ARE JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Need to turn the list around again.

Sorry but better judges of football talent then most on this site, say we have a good list! As we have had in the past, our problem is developing this talent. So I see it as the coaching not being able to get their message across to the playing group. It started with the camp issue and it keeps building. There is a big break down of communication. Having been to training a couple of times this year, the players don’t run into each other or getting in each other’s way as they did last night and last week. So why on game day? No leadership? No direction? Poor coaching with to much instruction? No clear message? Not sure but they better get it right soon or the season is gone and our membership will be back in 30,000’s again.

Cheers.

Is he quick?

Goals are at a premium yet we effectively traded Watts for Lever?

Worse that than as well as no avenue to goal, the defence leaks like a sieve.

We look slow in my opinion, they need to inject more pace.

Hannan has to come in and hopefully T Mac is ready.

I think Vince is nearly done.

Not as crazy as it looks DL5. But we are stuck with Goody until 2019.

Not enough cash in the tin to pay him out or enough humility to admit we made a mistake picking a rookie coach to take over.

Both failings common to many recent MFC administrations.

Why don't you do a little research for yourself

Because I am sure people have actually watched him play.

This is a forum right, where people discuss topics?

Is Spargo beating down the door yet??

He’s been playing well, but not sure about debuting him so early in the season.  Would prefer him to mount a case that’s impossible to ignore rather than us turning to him in hope...

Gartlett gets one more week imho as he’s one of the few players we have who can turn a match in minutes.

what do we do about Garlett ? I would prefer him to play but he’s been garbage for 2 weeks. He did basically win us the game vs lions

give Spargo a run for the next 4 matches provided he isn't putrid.  Jeffy had a chance to redeem last night.  Time to trade and try out new blood who show the hunger for winning.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
